Automobilista 2 Update: New Content, Features and Fixes

Formula Inter is the latest Brazilian car to feature in the sim.jpg
Not long after explaining why the game's most recent update was delayed, Automobilista 2 developers Reiza have released update 1.4.6.1 featuring new content and plenty of game improvements.

No more than a few days ago, we mentioned a recent newsletter update Reiza posted talking about upcoming updates to Automobilista 2 and reasons for delays in development. The main issue causing delays to the game's next release was the content scheduled to go live with v1.4.6.1.

The latest update for Automobilista 2 dropped last night though and brings plenty of improvements. From exciting content, including a free to all players addition, and many game improvements and new features, here's everything to know about the new AMS 2 drop.

New car and track in AMS 2

Bathurst is one of those infamous tracks that every race fan knows and recognises. But Reiza has given the track some AMS 2 time machine magic recreating the venue as it was back in 1983. Fewer barriers, closer trees and a time before the Conrod straight was broken up by The Chase. This new track completes the Historic Track DLC alongside 1988 variants of Cascais and Jerez.

Unlike the historic version of Bathurst, the second piece of content included in this most recent update is free to everyone with the base game. The Formula Inter is a lightweight, entry level open wheeler raced primarily in Brazil.

As we mentioned in our previous post concerning Automobilista 2, a historic version of the Nurburging is also in the works. However, with plans to recreate the Sudschleife as well as the Nordschleife in its 1971 guise, progress seems to be slower than expected. The newsletter released a few days ago stated that, although meant to launch with the new update, a release towards the end of March is more likely.

Bug fixes, features and more

Along with the pair of content drops, Reiza also released a fairly sizeable update to its game. It Mostly features bug fixes and minor game improvements such as changes to the way the AI work out race strategy and traction control adjustments on several cars. However, there are a few interesting additions that should enhance the game's immersion further.

Among these changes is the ability to alter the pit speed limit for custom championships. Not all real-world series run a 50kph pit speed like the GT World Challenge for example. Being able to alter this gives players' custom championships a new thing to think about when it comes to driving through the pits.

The game also now features cockpit lights for a variety of cars. Endurance-focused cars like the Cadillac DPi, McLaren 720S GT3 and BMW M4 GT4 will provide much more night-time immersion thanks to this small yet noticeable change.

yo, what about updating paid Reiza DLC for rF2? Wasn't that your responsibility?
It has been updated. It's called AMS2. :D
If you want to experience that content in much the same way as in rF2, play AMS1. :)
If you still want to play it in rF2, it may be a while. Reiza is said to have someone working on the rF2 DLC track updates currently but, "when it's ready" seems obvious enough.

Why would they bother? RF2 is on life support anyway. It's only new content is stuff from MSG's abandoned games.
Rfactor2 has more average player compared to AMS2... well, not everyone likes to play against AI most of the time.
I hope eventually AMS gets a proper multiplayer design so they can bring a working ranked racing and also allowing other platforms like LFM to implement it.

I haven't tried AMS2 in a while, don't have the space on ssd :( Have they done more work on physics? These historic maps look cool, maybe it's time to try them out?

I am so glad they are finally addressing the issues with AI strategies. It's not perfect, but getting there it seems.
Hope to have time to try the latest improvements in the AI speed at the pitlane this weekend. This was really weird.

Yes they keep doing that. The longer you have not been playing the bigger the difference.
What cars would you be referring to, so that we can possibly give you a hint?

You can keep everything else. Cars, tracks, tire models, VR enhancements, the works. I just need
  1. Replays that work in offline practice sessions
  2. Integration with MoTec
  3. Different views in replay sessions
I can get by the rest.

Its getting better & better! Good to see the updates back :)

Fingers crossed the career comes soon, would love to get into it.

Good to also see such a full grid for the Race Department Mini Challenge tonight!

Fully agree.
1. and 3. can be merged to one called:
A working Replay system where the forward/backward sliders and audio does work.

CatsAreTheWorstDogs: And some kind of telemetry export to MoteC would be fantastic :)

I tend to try AMS2 from time to time and the impression is always the same - it's great fun but it never sticks with me.
Recently I've tried out most of the cars and the only one I really liked is the Formula Retro Gen4 - The Alain Prost Ferrari F1 car. It sounds great and it handles like Prost said (like a truck).
Other than that, every other car feels like I booted up Race Driver Grid, NFS Shift or Project Cars with some physics/FFB tweaks. I don't know what it is, but I just feel the same DNA.
And I don't want to start some stupid discussion over and over again, I'm entitled to my own opinion.
AMS 2 is great for what it is, it is approachable and user friendly and can introduce people to motorsport and vintage cars and tracks rarely seen in any other game/sim.
It's just not my cup of tea.

The Formula Inters are lots of fun to drive. Small cars with quite a lot of grip, perfect for the small(ish) brazilian tracks like Cascavel. I had never heard of this series before it was put in the game. One of the reasons I really like AMS2 is the fact that it features cars and tracks not available in other sims.

Historic Bathurst is also great with touring cars from the 70's and 80's.

Agree everyone should have there own opinion, but I’m always curious as to what people think is the gold standard for them though.

For some reason the AMS2 threads seem to bring out alot of the “this is why I don‘t like it …. something about Project cars“ but it’s always useful to also understand what that persons idea of good is so you can put some context round it.

I'm completely OK with a delay of Südschleife if it means real authentic, trustworthy modelled historic track surface, curbs, tarmac and surroundings of the time.
And one could hope for merging to Gesamtstrecke, but again a full modelled historic layout reflecting the year. And then in addition Steilstrecke, e.g. with falling light, wet leaves on the slippery 33% slopes. And Zielstrecke with Betonschleife-loop.

.....or maybe just a Sücschleife with potholes, rough tarmac and everything leaving immersion of the time.

And as stated in the warm-up thread speaking 1983 Bathurst I'm missing the car series running the main event by the time, i.e. the 1983 Australian Group C Touring Car Championship including the BMW 635i's, XE Falcons, Nissan Bluebird Turbo's and the Holden Commodore SS's. Would be absolutely cool.

Apart from that.
ust came from 3 offline events.
The Combo of the new Brazilian
Formula Inter MG-15 @ Cascavel
in changing weather conditions pure rocks! :inlove:

Though still work to-do in 1hr off-line AI events with pitstops.
