Forza Motorsport 2023 Details: 500 Cars, 20 Locations

Today's Forza Monthly gave the info sim racing fans have been hoping for for months. Finally, here are some more updates on the new Forza Motorsport.

Forza Motorsport creative director Chris Esaki came on the monthly show to explain the previously released trailer at Xbox Direct.

If you haven't seen the trailer yet, here's it for you to see:

500 cars will be featured in the game, over 100 of which are "new to (Forza) Motorsport". Forza Motorsport is said to be launched with more modern racing cars than ever as well.

Some new cars include:
  • 2021 Cadillac Whelen Racing DPi
  • 2019 Ginetta LMP1
  • 2021 Porsche Mission R
20 locations will be featured at launch in FM2023. 5 of which are completely new to the Forza franchise. The track set includes Maple Valley, Suzuka, Kyalami and Laguna Seca. Laguna Seca also receives a historic layout from the 60s, which skips the first sector, going straight from the Andretti hairpin to turn 5.

Going further, physics details were mentioned like has been known previously. It boils down to the physics that has been reworked from the ground up, increasing the depth.

Lastly, the AI has also been completely rebuilt, with more news on that to come up later.

What also has to be mentioned is that the launch date has shifted from "Spring 2023" to now being "2023" only. But as a smart person once said: "A late game is only late until it ships. A bad game is bad for the rest of your life."

What do you think of the trailer and news that has been released?

I'd just like the single player to not to consist of races where I start at the back and have to pass 12 cars in three laps. That's not Motorsport, give us the option to qualify and set a reasonable race length and make it so the AI are more than an "overtake" challenge.

You just need to accept it's never going to be a hardcore sim title. It's a simple as that. They have one title where you can jump of cliffs and drive through walls and one title that's a little more serious and is simply track based racing. Both are console games that will primarily played with joypads. If you are looking for an outlet for your DD wheel and VR headset, look elsewhere.

Basically nice game so far but as an Forzaplayer since part 1 i see only one thing....the headlights of some (recylced?) cars are still in poor quality and material. For example the MB 190... no improvement since probably Forza 3-4.

Addidional to that nothing mentioned about supported wheels or ffb/physics.
As far we know the previous Forzas had poor ffb and i still have doubts.

I am also VR user and it would be good to have finally a FM with VR support.

Having never played any Forza Motorsport titles, only Horizon casually, I must say I am looking forward to this, even with a wheel. Since it runs 4K60 with RT on console it should run well on PC (1080p no RT in my case). Lots of content, good graphics, an actual career. Only simulation and FFB quality is to be seen, but since FH5 had decent FFB (or so I have heard/read) this more sim focused title from them should be pretty good. If it's at least on par with F1 I will be happy.

What a terrible ratio.. 500 cars and 20 tracks, even wrose than GT7

Those who like Forza should be happy if this turns into sim cade, judging by these videos, they don't care about wheels or any serious stuff
They will sell you another 10 tracks via DLC packs that cost more than the base game. That's the business model.

I'll get this for my 9 y/o son who loves Forza Horizon 5. Not sure it holds much interest for me. The PC sim racing scene offers a lot better if past Forza's are anything to go by.

I couldn't care less about racecars. Didn't care about those in GT games either.
What i want the most is more production cars. No, not production supercars. Normal cars. Even "econoboxes".Driving those kind of cars is by far the most fun part of FM and GT games. If i want racecars, i have much better "games" to play.
And of course USED cars. Browsing the used car market in GT4 was probably the best experience i've had in any racing game.
Rally would be a much welcomed addition although i seriously doubt it will make it. Unfortunately the developers don't seem remotely interested in it. Shame. Very popular MOTORSPORT.

I also like road cars in racing games. I'll never buy another MR2 but if you can have a decent on virtually I'm all in. Tbh most of my favourite race cars are still based on road cars. Not really a prototype fan. Something resonates with me about ragging cars with 'bad' suspension and lacking precision.

I wish there was a sim purely based on 80s and 90s road cars. AC mods will have to do.

i don't buy gran turismo or forza motorsport games for their simracing capabilities, but mostly for the eye candy and the enjoyable casual physics.
with recent simracing games though it has to be said that in the eye candy department both GT and FM are not the benchmarks they used to be. other racing games, even some sims, definitely caught up in this department.
the only thing these games still have going for themselves is the career mode and the car collection thingy as well as the presentation (but even here at least Forza Motorsport dropped the ball in the last two three games)
so they need a very strong reboot here and i hope because thats their aspiration, that this is also the reason for the delay from spring 2023 to 'later this year'.

All I heard and seen was "graphics, ray tracing, 4K, 60 FPS", basically buzzwords. Turn 10 regurgitates similar talking points when ever they release a new Forza. Talk up how good the game looks, how it's pushing technology on the console, the painstaken work they put into getting the details right, and then they show crashing, lack of awareness when racing, corner cutting and wheel to wheel races with #racecars that aren't from the same era. WTF is a Sauber C9 doing on a track with a modern Cadillac LMDh?

They only provide lip service to the tire model, when there are ways to demonstrate an improvement in the model. You can simply have a road going car mildly accelerate from standing still and compare FM8 to the previous games. Or even take the first turn at Maple Valley at speed, and show how the new game handles lateral grip better. Hell, you can have the car sitting still and turn the wheel from left to right, and show how the car moves because the tires are improved... Something! But all we got is their word. Goodness sakes!

They don't show racing and qualifying, they mention it in passing. They don't show much of any customization, they say its in the game. To be honest, they talk about how light will realistically bring out details in the paint, but by golly they didn't show that either. It's all promises and pretty pictures, but nothing substantive for actually playing the game. Cars and racing is exciting enough without the over the top BS simcade developers try to cram into their titles. If they are about sharing the passion for cars, then present them realistically, and let the "stars" do the talking...

It's looking like none of the Microsoft Game Studios understand what made people like their games in the first place.

Because this is what Forza Motorsport and Gran Turismo's marketing is supposed to be like, it appears that their respective developers have chosen to prioritize eye-candy graphics and then add Simcade driving model/physics/handling in order to make it appeal to motorsport fans that play on home consoles with controller pads, plus not everyone can afford and have space for their racing wheel peripheral.

What ever FM turns out to be its going to sell on the console side, imo they still need to win over the sim racing pc community as well.

For my self FM has to measure up to the pc sim racing that I now see as the norm. Don't get me wrong I'm still happy to pick up a pad and drive, but it will never live up to a wheel and VR.
That's where the complete lack of details makes things worrying. Are Turn 10 going to add huge peripheral support? Is there going to be VR on pc (Extreme long shot)? Come on no VR no play!

They have said for years, that the consoles have been the limiting factor, well consoles and mid range pc's are a level playing field, so will Turn 10 deliver..........

The simulation side of things, the bits I'm most interested in, are lacking in any meaningful information. All we have so far are numbers like its 10x better than previous titles, no metrics.
I'm dubious that all the efforts have been put into making this an eye candy simulator, that has the same DNA of every other iteration of Forza.
I really want this to succeed, the player base alone dwarfs the sim racing community, and it would be great to finally have a title that really mixes both worlds.

History teaches us, that so little information and secrecy either results in a pure gem, or a recycled cash cow, that brings absolutely nothing new to the table.

A new Forza is always welcomed, since Kazunori Yamauchi chose to stick to the stinkiest route possible in the gaming industry - MTX in a already expensive game plus online exclusive save, the only thing he didn't do is to make GT7 another FFXIV (full price game yet still force players to pay monthly fee, which is BS to me.)

But yeah... a lot of people chose to willingly lick Square Enix's you-know-where, so you get the idea.

For me, I would rather choose RENNSPORT way over Forza Motorsport Reboot and Gran Turismo 7.
Meanwhile your username suggests otherwise...

My user name is to tribute to my teenhood of loving Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport series.

Yeah, the newest installment of Gran Turismo shouldn't be called GT7 as it felt more like an MMO spin-off rather than a main installment, otherwise, Kazunori Yamauchi needs to get replaced by a future producer.

I'm more of an iRacing, Automobilista 2, Assetto Corsa Competizione and rFactor 2 fan these days.

Edit: Polyphony Digital needs to fix Gran Turismo 7 while porting the game to PC then a lot of people will love it in the near future.

I'm looking forward to this for the car porn aspect.
I've had/have a number of cars which are in FM7, and it's fun to be able to lap the ring without having to transport my car to Germany and being in danger of destroying my cars. Or shredding a couple thousand dollars worth of tyres :)
The differences in handling between all the cars is realistic-ish enough and some of them quite honestly feel spot on.

It's also quite fun to have track days at Nords with my friends all driving their IRL vehicles.

Like many people have said I would have preferred to see more gameplay content since the updates to the game don't come out very often. I think since we have heard about Kyalami in a past update, they should have shed more light on the Hakone Circuit since it is their newly made fantasy track. I was disappointed to hear the low track count since it has been 6 years since the last game came out you would expect there to be more tracks than the previous iteration. As much time as they are taking to release the game the physics better be up their with ACC or rFactor2.....it probably won't but it needs to be if we are going to take a seriously as a modern day sim or it will continue to be considered to be simcade.
