Over 200 Skins / Skin Packs Released on RaceDepartment Already This Year

2023 Liveries on RD 01.jpg
Our talented modding community here at RaceDepartment has been hard at work already in 2023, and have produced a huge amount of new or improved liveries for you to download today.

One of the most popular sections of RaceDepartment over past the decade and a half has been the skins sections. Adding more realistic, improved, fictional, artistic or just funny liveries to your favourite sim racing cars is one of the easiest ways to improve your experience.

Our incredible members here at RD have released over 200 new or updated skins already in 2023, with just over 10 days having passed so far in January.

The lion’s share of these skins belongs to Assetto Corsa, though many have been added to Assetto Corsa Competizione, art of rally and Automobilista 2 as well.

Many tribute skins to the recently deceased and well-loved Ken Block have been appearing and have extended well beyond cars we associated with the drift and HillClimb legend.

We’ve also seen individual skins and skin packs helping to flesh out race series ranging from CART to BTCC to LMP3. Whereas default skins can be immersion-breakers, having correct skins surrounding you on the track can help you feel like you’re experiencing the real thing.

We appreciate all our members here at RaceDepartment. If you’ve recently found a skin that you just had to download, or if you’re a creator and have released a skin you’re proud of, drop a description and link in the comments below.

And half of them are for illegal mods.
Are you able to elaborate on that one?
To my knowledge skins available at RD download section corresponds to either official sim content or to official mods available here too. Haven't identified skins provided here for 'illegal mods'.

But might be a matter of term.
To me 'illegal mods' are from shady sides who take credit for - and even monetize from other people's hard work. Sites as e.g. the one resulting in the Mike indicent we unfortunately witnessed a year ago (or has two years passed already? along with cov19 I completely slid out and lost track of time).

Modders and skin modders IMO cannot be credited enough for their work.

And then it hits me that the number is no larger than 200, in fact my impression is, there are way more skin works to be credited out there.
This strikes me especially when using the AC CM skin update tool of which delivers really massively of alternative skins from great, great skin modders.

It's still one of the things in simracingland that I'd like to do still: learn how to photoshop and build my own car skins. I think that must be very satisfying to play around for hours and then enjoy your own creation on track.

(I think I have spent more time in ACC playing around with the livery editor than actually racing the game :D)

Exactly, that's the reason why I started painting more than ten years ago. Back then for GT Legends. I just say "Altbierbude". The people who run this server also taught me how to create skins. Thank you again for that... and for your patience. There are many talented painters here. I'm amazed and admire again and again what beautiful skins come out here and keep learning.;)

…or: it is quite tedious when the car has a uv map from hell (speaking of you Porsche RSR 3.0 in AMS2). But yes…it's always nice to see the result after many hours of work.
Also many thanks to all those skin modders!

Slowly but surely, I will do a privateer skin pack for the URD Darche EGT1 (Porsche 911 GT1 Evo) from the FIA GT 1997.
I had the habit to do mainly fictionnal liveries about my own fictional team, but recently, I needed to fill up the FIA GT 1997-98 grid with some historical skins which give me some challenge.
Example for the already released Persson Motorsport CLK GTR here :

Skinning is what got me started as a professional livery designer, so I am forever grateful for the community for showing interest in what I love to do.

While we await the start of the 2023 season, (and for the debut of the 992 GT3-R) feel free to check out my latest design, which I have made available for ACC:

Also, if anyone is looking for professional-quality skins, with their own custom design, don't hesitate to reach out. Sim-racing is still a major part of what I do.

Just reinstalled AC, CM full version, payable lights patch, SOL, most used app mods and so on and one of first to-do's after adding classic official mod packs, single official car mods and official classic track mods are (besides updating CSP car- and track VAOs and textures) to do the skin auto-update job. And this is really massive.
Illegal in the sense that they're made for either models being ripped from commercial games, models stolen from other mods for other games or models being behind a paywall and obtained without paying to get access to them.
We have a report button for a reason.
Those uploading skins here technically are not doing anything wrong because they're only sharing their own content, so why should they be punished?

But I'll give you a freebie, these 2023 liveries for the ByKolles were converted from rF2 with permissions of the original skinner and that's fair enough and perfectly within the rules on a technical level. There's only one problem, in case you haven't guessed it yet. The mod required for it is a rip of the official DLC from rF2, converted to AC and, as if that wasn't enough, sold for real life money.

Hang on... are they... selling the rF2 conversion?¿¡!?

Thanks to everyone for your passion.

Every few years times like this I have to voice rant an opinion.
Why isn't there a official body like .. Painters Co. Op , well Modders & Painters Co.Op.
Something like this could become central for all sims.
It would hold all work to principles of a charter.
Paid up members. Painters would have their own space.
"Painters Co. Op approved content" with little sticker to display. :x3:
I saw 20 years ago place like this securing future.
Realtime teaching classes and diplomas.
Rather then so much incredible work getting lost over time sites shutting, etc.
Possibility endless.

Not just rF2 conversions. First Studio Racing was selling, among other things and in no particular order, conversions of:
DTM cars and other stuff from Raceroom (with URD sounds and physics)
Newest LMPs from iRacing, including the recently released LMDh (with URD physics)
The entire library of cars from ACC (ported to AC)
Pretty much all rF2 cars, including the latest DLC ones like the BTCC ones or the ByKolles
Some other stuff from AMS2 ("FSR" is Brazilian himself)
And more that I'm forgetting right now.
However, word on the street is that somebody from either rF2 or iRacing was not happy, as all of his platforms are now dead and/or deleted. But if you fisit them with the waybackmachine, you can see for yourself.
Make of that what you will.
