RaceRoom | New Cars, New Track, Welcome to the Drivers Pack!

YjqKoje.jpg
December 2022 will see the light of a new DLC pack called "The Drivers Pack". 4 new cars to the sim and a beauty of a new French circuit are coming to RaceRoom.

According to the release statement, "Everything happens more quickly in a racecar. Everything is more exciting. But everything is less forgiving."

Now what they mean by that is when you open up your RaceRoom installation with the premium pack installed, you can jump into Group C cars at the top of their game as well as modern GT1s and Formula Cars. But for a beginner, that is not necessarily the best way to go.

While they claim this pack is not officially a Beginner Pack, its content will aim to serve as such.

The included cars will be:
  • Mazda MX-5
  • 2 Crosslés
  • Praga R1
The included track will be:
  • Circuit de Charade

The Cars

Now while you will probably not need an introduction to the Mazda MX-5, which has been serving as the rookie car in iRacing for a while now, you will probably not have heard of Crosslé or maybe even the Praga R1.

Crosslé is a company, much like Lola Cars was. Producing cars specifically for racing. They produced cars for many national British as well as international series including Formula Ford, Formula 5000, Formula Two and Formula Junior.

With their cars, they served as an entry into single-seater racing for many great names including Nigel Mansell, John Watson and Eddie Irvine.

Now, the 2 Crosslés that seem to be included in this pack might be the Crosslé 19F Formula Two as well as the Crosslé 9S.

Last but definitely not least, the Praga R1. You might know this car from the Britcar Endurance Championship and it having been driven there by YouTuber Jimmy Broadbent in 2021. The Czech-built car is now making its way to RaceRoom.

Circuit de Charade

Directly connected to Crosslé, as it hosts their driving school is Circuit de Charade, a former F1 as well as Motorcycle Grand Prix venue. Though the original 8.055 km track will most likely not be included in favour of the more modern 3.975 km circuit, that doesn't deter from the challenge this twisty track in the French mountains provides.

The circuit currently mostly hosts track days as well as historic racing events. Therefore, it will be very interesting to see how actual race cars traverse the track.

I have to pinch myself about this one. The MX5 in RaceRoom? It can't be true. Just for that car alone I'm in for the pack. The track looks like it will be a hell of a drive too, and a classic Grand Prix(ish) car too? I cannot wait for this pack to be released.

I love this.

MX-5 Cup cars are a great choice for the sim. RaceRoom physics feel very nice, in my opinion, with low power cars like the NSU TTs and RWD touring cars like the DTM 1992 or Group A "Touring Classics" cars, so the MX-5 Cup car should feel quite good! Also, the aggressive but raceable RaceRoom "touring car style" AI is well suited to MX-5 racing (especially if the RR AI do slipstreaming well... I can't remember if they do). And RaceRoom's netcode (like other games derived from isiMotor) is friendly to close racing and contact – an essential for cars like this.

In general, I am beyond thrilled that another sim will have an up-to-date MX-5 Cup car. The IMSA MX-5 Cup is quite possibly the best door-to-door racing in the world right now. I mean... see for yourself in the video below. We need more of this in sim racing! Be it multiplayer or against AI. :D

I am curious about whether RaceRoom is modelling the sequential, higher rev limit ND2 Cup car or the H-pattern, lower rev limit ND1 Cup car (as seen in Assetto Corsa). I'm also wondering about which specific Cup car they're using for the 3D model. For instance, I'd love it if they modelled the AIM dash and specific interior of the IMSA MX-5 Cup in the US built by Flis Performance.

I also am happy to see the Praga R1 as a Jimmy Broadbent fan. I'm guessing there'll be plenty of sim racers who will want to try out driving the Praga – especially at the British circuits where Jimmer raced this year with the Praga Cup. Wonder if they're modelling the higher-horsepower Evo version (the one Jimmy raced with)? As opposed to the R1 non-Evo version found in Assetto Corsa.

Still no single new feature since Dec 2020 update?? Sorry not enough to tempt me back :roflmao:
You must have missed it, but RaceRoom added an entire hybrid energy deployment and recovery system with the FRX-22 formula car release and separate high/low gear stacks and water brake cooling systems for the racing trucks.

No I could never miss that ugly looking formula car. I was referring to new universal features not new content. I do not play open wheel/trucks so what your talking about is off no benefit to me and others ;)

Seeing nothing of interest to you is fair enough! We all have our preferences and are entitled to them. Just don't say "no single feature" has been added... cause that isn't true!

You speak for others. The frx 22 is a great car and trucks too I love to drive them. A hybrid system and a water brake cooling system is part of the features. Some games don't have this. Surely you must be talking about other things. What are you waiting for?;)

raceroom will not have an accurate dash display, it's the same generic 4 or 5 dashes for every car

For the record it was my #1 go to sim loved it (premium pack owner) but unfortunately if you look at the quality improvements AMS2/RF2/iRacing have done in the same period RRE is left in the dust. Iv no issues with content but the state of game and engine in 2022 come on mate. Approaching two full years now without a proper feature release :O_o:

This will further add to Raceroom's diversity of cars, all of which drive roughly the same.

If you want a preview of what the Praga or MX5 will drive like, just try a historic touring car, a DTM beast from the 90s or a modern GT3 - doesn't matter which.

I agree with you on this. I think they stopped the evolution of this graphic engine. It's a shame because they could have evolved especially for the damage model and the night races. To see now the transition that they will make because it will not be able to last too long because the gap with the others sim is widening more and more

How I wish you were wrong. But unless something has changed... yeah. The wildly inaccurate dashboards on most cars in RaceRoom is my personal pet peeve with the sim.

Please, SimHub dashboard modders out there, bless us with a MX-5 Cup-style AIM MXL2 dash made to work with RaceRoom. ;)

I have to say that I havespent many enjoyable hours ( and $) in Raceroom over the last few years, but lately I have been using AMS2, ACC and RF2. Hadn't started up RRE for ages. Had a crack with WTCC at Falkenberg this weekend ( I like the FWD cars...) What a blast. This is still a terrific sim and it runs great on my old rig. I like the graphics. I get night racing in the others so I dont miss it. I loved the Praga in AC, and the MX-5 so I may be tempted.

Being stuck with DX9 because you can't update the entire graphics engine is one thing, but being unable to generate realistic dashes even after all these years because they are implemented in some obscure language that no one can parse because they guy who did the original dashes left is just sad.

I recently reinstalled R3E because the newest DXVK version finally works with it giving smooth stutterless performance on my system without graphics artifacts.

However I tried some short races and I was very surprised by the AI, bashing you off the track, braking very early while having insane traction and acceleration mid corner and corner exit. In this pack the MX-5 and esp. the Praga raised my attention, but if I want to race them with crap AI I have AC for that :D Not sure what others' recent experience is with the AI but I was under the impression that it should be great but I didn't enjoy my short testing time with them at all. And the dashes, as MJQT mentioned, don't even get me started... :D
