The second edition of the Alpine Esports Series came to a stunningly close finish on Nürburgring. In the end, it was James Baldwin however, who managed to manifest his previous lead into the series win.
The Road to Success was Not Easy for Baldwin
After going into the last round with a 24-point lead, everything looked just peachy for the brit. There was a small detail, however, that would see him not in the best position for this final round. Baldwin is set to participate in the upcoming 2022 24 Hours of Spa and had been on-site for practising. Therefore he couldn't practice much for the final round of this esports series.The sprint race then unfolded harshly on the brit as fellow countryman and closest competitor George Boothby won, while Baldwin himself was crashed out in turn 1. This showed not only that the former British GT racer is still vulnerable, but also that his rival in this series was not to be trifled with.
It Could Not be Closer for the Final Race
Now the game was on for the final race of the series. The feature race at Nürburgring saw Boothby start pole while Baldwin only started in fifth place. After a, again, scruffy start German Marko Pejic took the lead and went with it, quickly establishing their pace above the rest.The entire race saw a 3-car battle for second place though, including an all-British line-up of Boothby, Luke Whitehead and Baldwin. This fight would stay close until the finish line, on which Boothby cemented his second place, not only in the race but also in the entire series.
It was the World's Fastest Gamer however that managed to cling onto the championship lead by 5 points, managing to take the crown of Alpine Esports Champion.
