F1 22 Championship Edition Launch Just Hours Away

If you have pre-purchased the Championship Edition of F1 22, June 28 is when you can already be playing the new title by Codemasters and EA. Ahead of the release, a new launch trailer has been published.

“We can’t wait for players to jump into the game, and the trailer perfectly captures the excitement and emotion of competing at the highest level for the World Championship,” said Paul Jeal, F1 Senior Franchise Director at Codemasters. “Players will experience the ecstasy of taking their seat in the new era of Formula 1 and driving the car to the limit and beyond.”

F1 22 lets players live the life of a Formula 1 driver on and off the track. Alongside competing for the 2022 FIA World Championship™ in new revolutionary cars designed for greater competition, players can now experience rewards away from the circuit with the introduction of F1 Life. The new social hub allows players to personalise their avatar and apartment and show off their collection of supercars. Once acquired, the cars can be driven in the Pirelli Hot Lap feature, replicating the early part of the race weekend.

F1 22 Champions Edition featuring additional content and three days of early access, will release on June 28, 2022, for PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation®4, Xbox One, and PC via Origin and Steam. The Standard Edition will release on Friday, July 1, 2022.

Have you purchased the Championship Edition with 3 days of early access? If so, will you be playing tomorrow already? Let us know in the comments below!

The games stutters all over the place. Seems sound related. Really undriveable! The realy messed up this time.

Returned from F1 practice today at Silverstone and downloaded the game, looking forward to turning a few laps.

Sadly no can do - the game fails to recognise my separate USB control devices so I can either steer the car and not use the pedals or accelerate and brake but not steer!

While it was slightly entertaining to see which method allowed the best assessment of the games physics I've now given up and find myself waiting for a patch to fix the issue.

As F1 2021 worked fine I hope the fix comes quickly. For reference my setup: Thrustmaster TS-XW wheel, Fanatec Clubsport V3 pedals and Thrustmaster TH8-RS shifter.

For rF2, often the same symptoms could be remedied by exiting the program and restarting. Don't know if that will solve your issues.

Well, took a punt. I am amazed how well this actually runs for me in VR (Vive Pro, 11900K/3080).

I have a Fanatec CSW 1 with formula wheel. It was auto detected with no issues. My pedals are plugged into my Wheel. I am actually running settings VR High. I went with TSAA and Fidelity Sharpening which gives me the cleanest look. It could still look a little sharper but on the whole pretty reasonable. I raised my Vive Pro res to 130%. It runs completely smooth at 90fps so far having only raced at Japan and Britain. Was expecting the worse so very pleasantly surprised so far.

The only down side so far is it sure does crash a lot which is usually in the middle of a bend so leaves my FFB wheel wanting to keep turning.

I might actually keep it and not refund (which is rather an unexpected surprise).

Edit: Had a bit of stutter in the pits so moved SS back down to 100% but was then able to run VR High Ultra. Fairly happy I must say.. Although less crashing would be nice (The game, not me) :)

Not a fan of the AI. It ploughs into you and keeps the throttle to the floor until it drives you completely off the track!! If I wanted that sort of racing, I'd go online :D

ok i like it except in VR

menu freeze, and if I get through the menu I have black screen in the garage..totally unplayable at the moment so think I'm going to make a refund. Handy guys over there at EA sports

they sell half a bike :O_o:

Just read your post @Slapped and thought this sounds positive and reassuring and then back to square one after reading @muzikant post.....
So many mixed opinions.
Don't think I've done a refund before, is there a refund button on steam?
Sorry guys, really sorry. I can only talk of my own experiences with it.

Something that might be of interest is that I'm running an older Nvidia driver (4.66.xx) - I can't check it exactly at the moment). F1 22 complains about it on launch, but after hitting run anyway it's fine. You'll be missing DLSS options however. This might explain the black screens that some are experiencing in VR. Also I'm still running Windows 10.

The massive frame rate drops appear to be caused by seperate input devices, such as pedals and wheelbase both plugged into USB. In this case plug your pedals into your wheelbase. If you're running mix and match gear i.e. TM wheel with Fanatec pedals then it seems you're SOL until a patch is issued. Although I can report that a Simucube wheelbase and Heusinkveld pedals are working fine, probably because they communicate directly with MS Direct Input, and don't have a driver doing this for them.

Hope that helps, but honestly unless you actually enjoy being a beta tester (which I do) it's probably better to wait a while.

I reckon EA will completely ignore the single player ai,they want money, money, money and online is where they get it.

I've been a fan of codies F1 series, I have them all! But this one I had to refund. The issues and the low FPS even on modest settings. Last year game ran nice and smooth. I didn't see any new updated graphics in F1 2022 so why is it running like crap! Maybe, like someone said, the issue with the Fanatec pedals I have connected to USB port combined with my TM TX wheel making it laggy and choppy.

But regardless, the game is just not worth the $72.00 (Championship Ed) and (Discount for having prior F1 Games) I initially paid on Steam. It's just not that good. I'll eventually buy it again but will wait for a digital bargain bin price just for collection purposes to just have it. Very disappointed but not surprising!...:):)

Thanks @Slapped.

I decided to get it with the hope of pressing the refund button if it crashed.

Running a i5 12600k with 3070ti and Hp reverb G2.
Watched a few vid on the game graphics settings, turned down the most tasking stuff and game runs fine. Now I need to start turning stuff up.

Not as sharp as other titles but smooth enough and stable, the rain though.... Probably the best rain experience in VR

wish they didn't go VR this year
too big change comparing whole F1 cars technology etc and now this...
they just make it more confusing for everyone :O_o:

The biggest problem this year is the utter screw up with the controller implementation, and the fact that they wasted time with supercars and F1 Life. The new F1 cars and tracks (including changes to existing tracks) are just new assets which are an effort mostly for the art department. Also they always fiddle around with the physics every year, so not really a big development effort on that front - in fact the MFD, ERS deployment, FFB, etc remains pretty much the same as last year, although I personally think the FFB has improved this year.

Given that people have been howling for VR for years now, this is very late in coming. Besides you won't even notice the VR aspect of it unless you start it in VR mode. If you start it in flat screen mode it's just like any other F1 game, so not really confusing at all.

IMO this was the right time to introduce VR - it had to be done sometime, and for a lot of the F1 game fans it's a very welcome addition.

Is the psychics engine more like Project cars 2 or Dirt Rally 2? You know When compare those two games in rallycross, which is in both games. Dirt rally's rallycross in unplayable, because of weird psychics.

The VR is fine, I had to drop to medium settings and set my SS to 200% in SteamVR as its very "soft/blurry" otherwise, like AA is stuck on 8X and you dont have an option to dial it back to 4x or 2x... it does make spotting corner markers difficult,

but,

I'ts very playable, (i9 9900kf/64gb/3080ti and Vive), I assume further VR tweak to the AA and upscaling methods will drop over the next few weeks to solve the over softening.

I did not need to install Origin Store.

All up as an OOBE for a game it was pretty good, pretty much loaded it up, and it just worked, and it was great to finally have a purpose built F1 Game that can have proper FOV.. sad they will never build triples support, but, I'll take the VR!

(had a few HP left in the old 3080ti for a VR screen grab if it helps.)

I was initially pretty happy with the VR performance. (11900k/3080). I had the VR set to "VR High Ultra" with TXAA and FSX Sharpening.... but the game just kept randomly crashing on me. I got one completed short race out of 10 attempts. I tried all sorts of Nvidia drivers and forum "snake oil" fixes but nothing worked... until someone said they turned their settings down from "VR High Ultra" to "VR High" and fixed their game crashes..

Well, you know how desperate one can get so you try anything even when you believe its a load of old bollocks... But, I have to say.. turning my settings down to VR High seems to have fixed my incessant crashes. I have done 2 full sessions with practice and short race with no crash (Touch wood). That was impossible previously.

Now I have turned them down again to "VR Medium" and upped the super sampling to 170% (I don't notice any difference above 170%) as per your suggestion and I have to say, it looks really good and runs great. I'm glad I cancelled my refund request (after 4 hours of play, but people have had them granted at well over 2 hours before).

Happy days.

great!

I hope they fix whatever is wrong with the AA soon, having to supersample that high should not be required, but, it works as a plaster for now.

Ive done a full race now on my settings and didnt crash fwiw.

I had a generally pleasant experience with it in VR (i5 10505, RX 6800xt, Reverb G2, CSL DD+pedals). So glad they did add VR this year! No crashes so far after few hours. CSL DD just works, even though ffb feels very basic vs. AC, AMS2, ACC. I had to disable AMD FSR as default presets are horrible and blurs everything massively. Had to enable Motion vectors-based reprojections, but I don't mind it too much.
What was interesting is that I had to disable SimHub (wind and bass shakers) - SimHub gave me lots of stutters that I was very confused about, before turning it off and stutters every few corners are gone now?! So definitely something is wrong with additional USB devices, or not enough power in my i5? Will be racing without the wind for now :( Hope this helps anyone.

This year is just a kick in the face, it`s so bad it`s not even funny anymore.

  • Still no mouse support in the same outdated menu`s as previous years.
  • These overhyped "supercars" are just horrible, the handling, sounds and models were probably fine back in 2005
  • The graphics overall look terrible maxed out on a 4k HDR monitor
  • The handling is exactly the same as previous years
  • Trigger Rumble bug is again present as it was in the previous year
  • Still a mess setting up controls with different devices enabled
  • STILL NO MOUSE SUPPORT IN MENU`S
I haven`t tried the VR mode yet but to be honest i`ve already uninstalled it after 15 minutes. I wish the license would just go to another developer, this is nothing more than an ordinary cashgrab, maybe even an outright scam.

As long as schmucks keep buying unfinished shitty full-priced games on release then they'll keep making them. Why would they put effort into the game when people will buy their broken piece of **** anyways?

Why thank you Mr Chuffy, I'll put in a request to the admins have my user name changed to "Schmuck".

The new Thrustmaster drivers have fixed the multiple USB control device bug.
