F1 22 Championship Edition Launch Just Hours Away

If you have pre-purchased the Championship Edition of F1 22, June 28 is when you can already be playing the new title by Codemasters and EA. Ahead of the release, a new launch trailer has been published.

“We can’t wait for players to jump into the game, and the trailer perfectly captures the excitement and emotion of competing at the highest level for the World Championship,” said Paul Jeal, F1 Senior Franchise Director at Codemasters. “Players will experience the ecstasy of taking their seat in the new era of Formula 1 and driving the car to the limit and beyond.”

F1 22 lets players live the life of a Formula 1 driver on and off the track. Alongside competing for the 2022 FIA World Championship™ in new revolutionary cars designed for greater competition, players can now experience rewards away from the circuit with the introduction of F1 Life. The new social hub allows players to personalise their avatar and apartment and show off their collection of supercars. Once acquired, the cars can be driven in the Pirelli Hot Lap feature, replicating the early part of the race weekend.

F1 22 Champions Edition featuring additional content and three days of early access, will release on June 28, 2022, for PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation®4, Xbox One, and PC via Origin and Steam. The Standard Edition will release on Friday, July 1, 2022.

Have you purchased the Championship Edition with 3 days of early access? If so, will you be playing tomorrow already? Let us know in the comments below!

I've just watched another vid and the user has done a refund, wheel not working, blue screen, and online servers not connecting ......
I've got enough racing titles to last me a lifetime but i still convinced myself to buy this.....

Some have it running no problem and some are having problems...really can't be asked to deal with extra frustration.

Am still waiting to hear from VR users if they are getting good performance.

Anyway, I've unconvinced myself and joined the skipping crew for now.

I have loaded F1 22 Champions Edition on PC and launched it a few times, but it doesn't seem to detect my Thrustmaster TSXW, and it also doesn't detect the SF1000 so the Screen just displays the Thrustmaster logo. I am uninstalling and reinstalling via Steam, but don't think that will make any difference. F1 2021, F1 2020 and F1 2019 are all working fine, as are all my other games, and the TSXW and SF1000 have the latest Firmware. I have also checked to see if Thrustmaster have released any new Drivers or Firmware but nothing as of yesterday.

Does anyone else have the same issue or can offer suggestions? Anyone else have the same problem?
Yep, there's a few complaints on the Steam discussions about what you're experiencing, but it's not affecting everybody. Those who's TM wheels are working are reporting that the SF1000 screen is not working in native mode, and needs to be setup to use UDP over wireless to work.

Some things that spring to mind that might help you are:-

EDIT - before trying any of the below try disconnecting the wheel and pedals from the PC and then reconnecting them - this appears to have solved the problem in a few cases. Doing this appears to cause the Thrustmaster driver to reinitialise.

1) In Steam right click on F1 22 -> Properties -> Controller and then "Disable Steam input" from the drop down menu. A shot in the dark here, but doing that has solved controller problems with many a game IME.

2) Ensure that your Pedals are connected to the wheelbase and not to the PC via USB, if possible. This has solved quite a few people's problems. This applies to all brands, not just TM.

3) Try a different rim - The SF1000 seems to make the Thrustmaster wheelbases look like something else if it's attached, and this can lead to the game simply not recognising the wheelbase, or weird things happening with the FFB, which was my experience with it.

The SF1000 is a lovely decoration piece, but functionally it's not really there yet.

Played for a couple of hours earlier. Not sure what all the hype about a new handling model was. Felt exactly the same to drive as it always did, sub par FFB and everything.
But the cars are supposed to be totally different!!!

Bigger rims, suction aero, less wings, quick-heating tires,
porpoising, following close without a loss of grip...

So many changes in technology and so many changes in driving feel. Even top drivers are suffering if they can't adapt IRL!!

It shouldn't be the same as the previous car in the 21 game!

VR on Reverb G2, 3090, DDR5 RAM, intel 12th gen CPU works at 20 fps. Some kind of joke.
As a main stream, well optimized game, I expected it to run at 240 or 360 Hz on a 3090 I'm not kidding this is a card that is many tiers over the enthusiast/ high end category.

This year is just a kick in the face, it`s so bad it`s not even funny anymore.

  • Still no mouse support in the same outdated menu`s as previous years.
  • These overhyped "supercars" are just horrible, the handling, sounds and models were probably fine back in 2005
  • The graphics overall look terrible maxed out on a 4k HDR monitor
  • The handling is exactly the same as previous years
  • Trigger Rumble bug is again present as it was in the previous year
  • Still a mess setting up controls with different devices enabled
  • STILL NO MOUSE SUPPORT IN MENU`S
I haven`t tried the VR mode yet but to be honest i`ve already uninstalled it after 15 minutes. I wish the license would just go to another developer, this is nothing more than an ordinary cashgrab, maybe even an outright scam.
The pre-release features-trailers made me think there is a 10-years leap this time.

Thanks Azaralamouri. I will try and few of your suggestions. The pedals are already connected to the wheelbase rather than USB. So I will try the other suggestions.

I am expecting a day one hot fix or maybe a Thrustmaster Update it the issue is with the Drivers or Firmware.

Unplugging the wheel and plugging it back in seemed to do the trick thanks! Also the Screen is working on the SF1000. I gave it a quick blast in VR and it actually looks pretty sweet on my Samsung Odyssey with everything max'ed out and using Reprojection. I had to change a few settings in game to reduce the blurred edges but i am actually quite impressed with what it looks like. Just hope they sort out the bugs with the wheel not detecting straight away.

I'm another one that fixed everything with plugging the pedals directly into the wheelbase. I'm running with Fanatec equipment. I had plugged the pedals into the computer a month ago to update the firmware and totally forgot to put it back!

Went from 20fps, audio issues and crashing to 90fps and only 1 crash in 3 hours of play subsequent.

Hard to imagine it made THAT much difference, but there you go!

Forgot to say that the 90fps above was in VR on an HP G2. Most settings maxed on a 3070Ti except for AO and turned town reflections a little

F1 2021 had 2 DLC? If you mean the two tracks that were added post launch I wouldn't really put it into DLC category (however it is called "officially"). It's like basic update in other games.
I'm talking about Braking Point and the Deluxe Upgrade Pack.

Well that gives me a bit of hope for my old 2080 Ti as these two cards seem to be very similar in performance across benchmarks.

It feels like there is very little travel for my throttle before I'm at 100%. It's almost impossible to get decent revs on the start, it's either full or 0. I'm using a Fanatec system, anyone having similar issues?

Try rebinding all of your analog axes - Pedals, wheelbase and any analog inputs on the rim itself. It may be that they're not calibrated correctly in game. Also check for any saturation and sensitivity settings that may be set at values other than 0.

It seems that a lot of Logitech, Thrustmaster, and Fanatec users are having issues with F1 22, at least with the Steam version.

The irony is that my pedals, wheelbase and rim aren't even on the compatibility list for any F1 games and everything is working fine for me.

Maybe not. The 1080 Ti is still a relevant card, and the recommended card for VR, according to Steam, is the 2070. Ray tracing aside the 1080 Ti still outperforms the 2070 by around 20 to 25 percent. So, there's still hope, if you bump the eye candy down a bit.

Thanks for the reply, I will write my findings down when I get the game..
