3 Most Exciting Upcoming Indie Car Games at Steam Next Fest

With the Steam Next Fest going on, the online storefront is shedding a light on upcoming indie video games. Most importantly, all of these titles include free-to-play demos that you can try out today!

The racing section of the ongoing event includes roughly 30 titles, 3 of which I have hand-picked for you to check out.

Now to be fair, these titles try a new spin on "racing". It's not the classic drive-around-a-circuit-against-others type of deal. Furthermore, these titles are to be controlled with a keyboard or gamepad.

Nonetheless, these games are action-packed and might serve as a great diversion from the seriousness of sim racing.

So without further ado, let's get into the most exciting upcoming indie car games featured at Steam Next Fest!

Still haven't found anything that hits the casual spot like the speed servers on Trackmania United Forever, still active after all these years!

Ah! Trackmania!

I think Art of Rally hits that itch the most for me! Recently also started to enjoy Wreckfest a lot on the Steamdeck, great fun racing game!

And for those complaining, this is RaceDepartment, not super serial sim department! Technically any game would be appropriate as long as it has some form of racing in it ;)

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: It's RACEdepartment...not SIM-RACEdepartment.

A casual racing article or two won't devalue the site or our precious sims. In fact, you might bring more casual racers over to the sim-racing world this way. Plus, this is the only casual racing article posted to the front page in over a week, everything else was F1, sim e-sports, sims and sim hardware. Lighten up people :D

(Not to mention I finally bought Circuit Superstars a few weeks ago and it's as awesome as everyone says :thumbsup: )

Tried Pocket Wheels, it's really enjoyable, albiet short (because demo). Very arcadey, but it created some fun times.

To be fair, Circuit Superstars & Art of Rally were great. Also not really games to play with a wheel.

Shining a light on good indie games is also a good thing.

These however feel a bit too much off the mark. Rocket league comparison, platformer & micro machines respectively....

This is indeed very timed in relation to I started up golfing IRL a couple of weeks ago, some 40 years belated.
In addition having nearby disc golf course just 700m from my house, with national and international tournaments and driving just by a beautiful soccer golf course when delivering my wife at her work early morning, there's no doubt for me that "car golf racing" is a completely natural extension of relaxing distractions between busy work, bike racing, sim racing and the family race :)

If only the day had 48 hours...

Oh, did I mention, I attended the very first Krolf World Championships in the middle of a big audience of a handfull of people at the grandstands round the new millenium (Croquet & Golf combined) ;)

Good to have a car-version alternative of my Leaderboard Golf game for C64, enjoyed so much, by that time in the 80ies lining just next to the most beautiful hilly golf course.
I'll buy that for a dollar.
