RaceRoom Revises Ranked Server Format

RaceRoom Ranked Server Format Changes.jpg
RaceRoom's ranked online racing servers have received some changes to the general format.

RaceRoom Racing Experience's excellent online ranked racing has been updated with an improved format. Among the changes are revisions to the Rookie track rotation and new official series.

2022 has been kicked off in RaceRoom with week 1 of five different race series, including GT4, F3, GT3, WTCR and DTM. Each series will last roughly 3 months, with the track changing weekly. The servers are up all day, every day. Those with a driver rating of 80 or higher can race in the AM events (GT4, F3 or GT3), and 85 or higher rating allows you to race in the PRO events featuring WTCR and DTM.

Rookie races are open to all, regardless of your driver rating, and currently the selection of cars includes the BMW M235Si, NSU TTS, Audi TT Cup and the Tatuus F4. Both the Rookie and the main series races use a 15 minute race format, preceded by 15 minutes of practice and 8 minutes of qualifying. These sessions repeat constantly.

Finally, RaceRoom offers Endurance sessions and a weekly ranked feature race. The former is structured similar to the main race series in terms of qualification requirements, though the sessions are longer, ranging from 22 minute races to 60 minutes. AM races currently offered in the Endurance category include the 1992 DTM cars and the Porsche Cup cars. PRO sessions are currently set to FR X-17 and P2/GTE.

Format change notes:

- Rookie Servers now use all Free + Starter Pack tracks in rotation
- Official Series / Seasons
- Weekly Events on Saturday
- New Schedule on Monday

This is an exciting format for racing, and it seems RaceRoom is set up for a successful start to 2022. Give us your thoughts on the online racing in R3E in the comments below.

I love how none of these idiot developers thought of making older content that more people might actually own be in the rookie series.

Well played, indeed.
It sounds like they are trying to onboard new people by setting up Rookie servers like that. The most a new Rookie would have is either only the free stuff or the Starter Pack, I know I only had the latter when I first started with R3E.

I see there are no North American servers... which would be better for us to select region-wise?
For races labeled "global", indicated by this icon:

there should be servers from three regions, Europe, America and Oceania. In this case your best choice are the America servers, obviously.

Depending on your location within the USA and your broadband quality you might be able to join Europe or Oceania servers as well. In general, if your connection can maintain a ping below 200, you should be able to race safely.

Side note: If your region's servers don't show up, it's worth notifying their staff on their discord, sometimes the automated server creation can fail, which might have been the case when you checked earlier. When I checked right now, all America servers were active.

"Each series will last roughly 3 months, with the track changing weekly. " Do you score points per race and is there a ranking after 3 months? So can I win the serie? Sort of iracing format? Or is it just PER race?

i dont like this format. its gonna push ALOT of people into the rookie servers. and the track combo is also a weird one. i had to drive a F4 in the Club Chicane layout from Portimao

With regional pricing for Steam games, the starter pack from RaceRoom would cost me almost as much as AM2 did (with all DLC) during the Winter Sale. For people on low incomes RaceRoom is the most expensive 'free' game there is.

I'm surprised that you've been a member here since 2017 and never heard of vRP. It seems S3 doesn't advertise it well enough. Don't ever buy their DLC from Steam. Get vRP directly from Sector3 and wait for sale if you are looking for the best deal

"Rookie races are open to all, regardless of your driver rating"

Would it be more enticing to rookie racer to participate if a cap existed, preventing racer with higher rating to participate?
Not really. If you race against a person with higher ranking and beat him your rating improves significantly

True, but what are the chances?
As a rookie I would prefer to race again same level people rather than having to race against seasoned racers. That is usually how rookie series work IRL.
I don't know how are the servers outside of Europe, but here the rookie servers are usually full grids so you have people that are close to your level, and there are some that will be in front (and some behind), just like IRL. No problem with that.

There is almost always someone faster than you, no matter if he is a rookie or not.
Don't worry that there will be some seasoned racers in front. There is enough action in the middle for rookies too. I think it's actually good to have people with higher ratings if you are just starting out, because it is easier to raise your ratings faster - if you are quick enough. Also, keep in mind that the way ranked system works, if you loose a race to a higher ranked player you may not loose much rating (if at all)

Well rookie content changes every week. So maybe wait a little while rather than cry like a child about it?
They also have access to all kids of data as a result of the game being online, so it's safe to say they have a better understanding of what people own and what they actually like to drive.

They have removed the north American specific servers which use to have several east and west coast servers and combined north America and Brazil together.
I just checked and there are 5 servers with sub 35 pings.

I live on the west coast and the euro servers are 165+ with the oceanic 175+ pings.

Probably not showing cause there's hardly anyone racing in the north American ones...select show ranked only at the top and they will appear on the bottom

Only difference, AM2 online experience is almost dead compared to this.
