2022 Plans Teased in Automobilista 2 December Dev Update

Automobilista 2 2022 Roadmap 01.jpg
Reiza Studios has released the December, 2021 development roadmap for Automobilista 2, which details updates for January and beyond.

Reiza's last development update of 2021 was a significant one. The team behind Automobilista 2 confirmed that some pending content is going to be delayed, explained why the release of some overdue content isn't imminent, and summarized their plans for the title through 2022.

For those who bought the Racin' USA DLC part 2 expecting to have Road America added before now, you'll have another month to wait, as Reiza plans to complete the DLC pack in the January end-of-month update. Likewise, those who have been hoping to drive vintage layouts of Nurburgring and Spa will need to wait a bit longer, as the tracks are now expected in the first quarter of 2022.

Reiza explained the delays in releasing content players were expecting as a "distinction between plans and commitments".

Owners of AMS2 can soon look forward to driving more Formula 1-inspired cars, as the title will soon receive the Formula Retro Gen 3, modeled after the 1983 F1 cars, will be released soon.

Automobilista 2 2022 Roadmap 02.jpg

As far as the broader plans for the development of Automobilista 2 in 2022, Reiza noted "New cars from premium brands filling up existing classes as well as well as branching out to new ones, new tracks, historical tracks, further AI development, more multiplayer features, Steam achievements, full course yellows, oval racing, dirt racing and maybe the beginning of what should be a very elaborate career mode".

So, it would seem that big things are coming to AMS2 this calendar year, but a bit more patience will be required for now.

Is there anything mentioned in the dev update that you're looking forward to? Let us know in the comments.

AC is super fun when its working as you want, so much CM crashes, terrible AI sometimes but when its good its really good.

AMS2 is just so easy, AI is generally always great and things just work. I do wish we could a proper carreer mode, that be really cool.

Think F1 games are the only one who got great ones.

As AMS2 is, it could easily be the best sim if bugs and MP are sorted.

Looking forward to fixes and tweaks rather than just the new content, there is quite a lot of good variations of cars and tracks already which I never see racing online.

If anything, am looking forward to new tracks than cars.

This should be a defining year for AMS2.

Nearly every sim in the early 2000s used the ISI engine and nobody gave a ****.
Now a small dev team from Brazil chooses the Madness Engine and everybody looses their mind (probably without even trying AMS2). If Reiza had the manpower to create their own engine they probably would have chosen to do so but they had the opportunity to get their hands on the newest engine in simracing and now they are giving their best. I’m not 100% happy with AMS2 yet but they made huge steps since early 2020 and I’m confident AMS2 will have a good future.

Great to have a plan, feels good to see that Reiza is actively working on making my AMS2 copy better, grateful for that.
That alone is a huge difference from SMS as they always very quickly dropped their product support and the only plan they ever had was to sell us an other unfinished, short live version, as soon as possible.
So thank you Reiza, I hope 2022 brings you the success and recognition you are working so hard to get and totally deserve.

Aren't almost all feature of significance and contents in simracing already seen somewhere else?
I don't recall PC2 having full course yellow, maybe you have a special version of it?
Does PC2 have real oval racing? I don't recall that...

Since the update fixed the main physics and FFB issues, I've found myself playing more AMS2 than anything else. I'm not that into GT3 so ACC never holds me for long, iracing has iffy physics (especially brakes) and is too expensive and Race Room is great, but their ranked multiplayer roster is always the same cars and tracks and it got a bit dull.

I love classic cars and single seaters so the AMS2 content is great for me. Currently loving the Brazilian F3 Championship, learning the Brazilian tracks and mastering the F309 is a hoot. The karts are also surprisingly good fun and it feels like more could be made of them.

My wish list would be:
1) improve multiplayer - ranked servers and full stat tracking would be great.
2) add content to enable more realistic full seasons against the AI (or enable modders to do it). The ability to do a classic season in its entirety like GPL and 1967 would be amazing. Does need more era-appropriate tracks though.
3) career mode from karts to F1, again the option of a 60s/70s career vs 80/90s vs 00s/10s would be amazing.
4) port the Le Mans DLC from PC2

On the flip side it bothers me a bit that they are working on dirt racing and oval racing. Why spend limited resources on a niche that exists elsewhere? Focus on what makes AMS2 relatively unique, which is the classic stuff.

As usual, an AMS2 thread is 50% PC2 comments. The 2 don't feel remotely the same anymore, driving a GT3 911 back to back, it's not the same thing.
Seems like it is either too difficult a concept to understand for some of the guys who have both sims or plenty people are talking without even having PC2 (or AMS2)... It's enough to drive the same car/track combo in the two sims to see the stark difference, but still...

I still find Reiza's business model frustrating for offline racing. Every 3 months, they release a car or a track, or modify the physics of a car. It reduces the motivation to start a custom season. Do I start a GT1 or GTP season knowing that cars and tracks will be added in a month (I can't finish a season in a month, sorry)? Backfilling classes should be a good thing, but when its done at odd intervals it becomes a bit of a waste. Do I re-race a championship that I've already completed b/c a new car is now there? Do I re-start a season I'm in for that reason? Do I start a 1998 CART season knowing the '95 cars are forthcoming? (It makes no logical sense to me to do those 3 out of order...)

That this update states that 2022 "might see the beginnings of" the career mode is maddening. I am tired of physics demos. I want an "experience". A simulator these days can do more than put a car on a track. RRRE, iRacing, ACC, they all do the car "simulation" good enough. (At least, no ONE sim will ever please everyone) But the only software that simulates being a race car driver is the F1 series.

Would have preferred a tightly curated pack of content with rules and career progression as AMS2's draw. Even if the top level was StockCar Brasil. (Some have requested here the same.) I don't know how they're going to tie together all their disparate content into the most realistic career mode ever. Somehow, like Lewis Hamilton, I'll go from rental karts, to hot hatches, to '67 F1 cars, to 90's GT1s, to Formula 1! (with some dirt races in there also)

I blame the digital distribution model where games can be released half-baked on the promise of future fixes (and DLC).

Eh? They're different games though. Should something being in one game preclude it from being a big deal in another? iRacing has ranked racing, so why did Raceroom bother adding it?

And anyway, I'd suggest that saying PCARS2 has oval racing is like saying ACC has the Nurburgring 24 Hours. Technically speaking, you can do it, but it's not what people expect it to be.

And I say that as someone who's full of praise for ACC, PCARS2 and AMS2.

Just treat this game for what it is. Personally I wish they weren't doing oval racing or dirt track in AMS2, I'd rather they focused more on adding depth to the 70s, 80s and 90s racing and the offline gaming experience, but that doesn't mean I'm not looking forward to the bits they have in store that do appeal to me. Starting with those 70s versions of Spa and the Nurburgring.

Perhaps Reiza is trying to crack the North American market - where oval and dirt racing are bigger than road racing?

Great news for 2022 .....the sims Rocks...Very nice ...waiting long time for the 1970 -14 km version of Spa-Francorchamps...and the Old Nurburgring also a great addon.
One - point , The Rating online system works not good, Still too many unserious idiots entering rated classes and knocking everyone off the track:mad:.
There will have to be a strict points system, like in Race Room or ACC.
Thanks for the good work and updates Reiza. Great cars to come.... and the FFB update are awsome....

This update is actually less ambitious in terms of content than the previous ones - no new cars or tracks revealed. That's probably a good thing since there's lots of maturation to perform on the new features developed in 2021. All these promises of new features are of course highly speculative, I doubt most of this stuff will actually arrive in 2022, maybe in 2023. Hopefully they are able to expand the team a bit to bring in more hands, it really feels like Renato and co are burning out as they are falling more and more behind with the original roadmap. Shame if that was the case as the game is really on the verge of a breakthrough.
Yeah their roadmap is insanely ambitious, but even if they can't keep up with their roadmap, they are still doing one hell of a job. Only other sim that does an equally good job at constantly improving their product is BeamNG, really crazy what those two accomplish with their limited resources.

They actually announced the 83 F1 class, so we actually will get new content

I'm guessing rallycross and such, like in AMS1 and Project Cars 2. Rally would need pace notes and I find that unlikely
Yeah I can see one or two short stages coming just for the fun of it, but I doubt a full rally mode will be implemented.

Rallycross with better AI than the Dirt Rally games would be sick though. I really like rx cars and tracks, but the AI in those games is no competition at all and PC2 is well... Still PC2

Then go and play that...
Everything pc2 does is done better by AMS2, except for licensing which is reasonable considering their respective resources
