Voting has opened for the RaceDepartment Portuguese Grand Prix 'Driver of the Day'.

With the season now well underway, we enjoyed yesterday our third different pole sitter in as many weekends.

As expected around a track where overtaking can be limited, the start of the race proved to be its most exciting part. There were some good battles amongst the top three as well as interesting scraps in the midfield. As the race unfolded and things settled down, it became mostly about tyre management. With degradation higher than expected the hard compound seemed to be the preferred tyre.

Compared with the last couple of races, there were fewer standout performances this weekend. A few drivers starting out of position made good progress through the field. Others put in good drives but struggled in their second stints on a not very performant medium tyre. The race was otherwise not particularly eventful, however the fact that we should be in for a close championship was once again reaffirmed.

Love this track as there is barely time to catch your breath before you are going uphill, turning or both. Pre-race Lando Norris said it is a unique track but not necessarily a good track to race, he still gets my vote as he continues to develop as the car does. I thought it was entertaining and couldn't help but think of the strategies that could be possible without mandatory tire changes.

Twas a boring, but probably LH deserved it this time.
Big up to LN too - right now the top performer at Mclaren :thumbsup:

Rosberg summed it up after the race. MV blew it. His fastest lap time in qualifying was dis-allowed for abusing track limits. His 1 extra point for Fastest Race Lap was also removed due to Track Limits. He could have been on pole and possibly led from start to finish, but instead, 1st loser.

Rosberg just plays mind games .. I don't like that coward at all. Max has ridden his balls out of his pants again .. well we can now gradually get to the track limits and the fia rules. Bahrain! Think there is little to blame for Max himself in the race itself. the merc was just much faster, luckily still managed to catch Botas. If next weekend the merc is faster again, we also know how further the season will go

Max drove on the limit of the car on both occasions and margins are small. If I compare to Lewis in Bahrain, just driving on race pace, so not on the limit, but exceeding track limits 29 times... then I think Max did a good job and Rosberg just needs to shut up.;)

And... I voted Lando for DotD.:D

What this race showed me was, after all the blah about RBR have the fastest car, Mercedes is back in the throne room. Max drove his rear off with DRS and couldn't catch Bottas. Hamilton went past him like he was standing still.

Maybe a hot track temp will bring Mercedes backwards, but this may be the beginning of the end of the belief there is a new sheriff in town.

On a more positive note, Massivespin is what everyone aspires to be. Rich beyond compare and no talent to speak of. :whistling:

I voted for Alonso because he drove the wheels out of his Alpine after a terrible start of the weekend... he was truly "Driving Angry". Looking forward to Barcelona.

There were quite a few people who were just certain we'd be getting a championship battle this year. I haven't lost hope, but my skepticism/cynicism is creeping.

Hamilton made some nice overtakes (and got my vote for his troubles) but, ultimately, the win ended up feeling uncomfortably close to the "managed" type wins Merc has pulled off over and over and over and over and over since '14.

Pretty remarkable that the other teams are (apparently) so consistently uncompetitive. If nothing else, wouldn't you imagine Mercedes' talent would have been gradually pilfered away from them over the past 7 plus years?
