RaceRoom is a free-to-play racing simulator, and here are the included cars and tracks when you install the game.

This is a peak time of year for people joining the world of sim racing. November and December will bring an influx of new players sitting down behind their first wheel and pedal set and wondering where to spend their money on games.

A perfect means of trying sim racing without overspending is RaceRoom Racing Experience. This is a free racing simulator available through Steam. It includes the cars and tracks listed below, and additional content can be purchased a la carte. The free content in RaceRoom can be used in both online multi player mode and single player mode including practice if you're not yet ready to race.

The total amount of content available in RaceRoom including the paid content is massive, but the free content includes a solid variety of car classes and racing circuits. The free cars include multiple tin-tops, Le Mans-inspired prototypes from two classes, an entry-level open wheeler, and even a screaming hillclimb car. Portimao and Sepang are internationally famous race tracks included for free, and RaceRoom also gives us three fictional courses based on real locations to try out.

That's a big advert, did it pay well ? Yes I know you have to pay the bills :)
I am not even sure if you mean it for real or sarcastic?

For god sake we have been supporting Simbin / Raceroom since it's conception and apart from them we support every simracing developer out there for free and they never pay for content. And It's not even allowed to do sponsored content without a sponsored tag in the title of a post.

But if you are interested how RD does make money and pay for the bills please read this this article.

Still can't get behind the pay model in this and iRacing. I don't even want to start playing it because it seems a bit pointless when I'll be cut off from so much of the content.
The article highlights all the free content, not the paid content.

But even if you pay for R3E content how do you get cut off? It's one time purchase that you can access whenever you wish. Iracing and R3E are not the same business model.

Loving Raceroom. Great content and good FFB since the update. Also ranked MP is a good thing though I’d like to see less GT3 there but that’s a problem every sim has tbh. The only thing which they should improve is updating to a newer version of Direct X because DX9 sucks with VR.

Just an observation but it's definitely not up to this sites usual journalistic standards. It reads like a press release. No mention of any problems or upside, no personal opinions, no relating peoples previous experiences of the game. .

Bear in mind that your's is one of the few sites on permanent adblock white list

It's not a review. Just a rundown of what free content is available in the game. Not sure why that would offend you so much, it is after all, free.

Great game, lots of fun and it is actually easier to get into and feel the cars than other games. However, interestingly enough, ACCs new FFB and Update feels a lot like RaceRoom now which is really fun ^-^

Let me summarize, because few weeks ago I started to race online on Raceroom.

I'm playing only on ranked servers and this was my experience.

With free basically I couldn't race on any ranked server until I bought the M235cup, I played for a week with that car in Portimao, then again for many weeks there wasn't any combo I could play on ranked servers.

After a while I decided to buy the Pro Pack expecting to finally drive without worry about buy other content... but... still if I want to play on every ranked servers I had to buy other cars, or tracks because every time I owned the car/track but not both. Every week there are only few combos you can run without buying other content.

Also the only TCR is the '19 Civic... I mean, came on... get the premium pack or race with second hand content if you don't want to buy things outside packs.

Also the absence of a schedule of ranked events makes difficult to buy content worth because you don't know if you will use again the content you buy.

The Pro Pack is not worth buying as the content is out of date. Buying the Starter Pack guarantees you will be able to race at least one combo every week without buying anything else.

This is why I had to buy also the missing content of the starter pack...

@Jim Layee does not seem to me like he is "offended so much", he was making a tongue in cheek observation, that I agree with, that this "news" reads more like an add for R3E than news about R3E, or even information reminder that R3E is free to try.

As forum reader, we can every once in awhile write when something does not feel right, without being upset or a "hater".

All that said, I like that R3E has a different approach, even though I do not launch R3E often, the fact that some content is free, that you can try any car for free before buying and that you only have to buy one car in a class but are still able to race against all the other car of the class, makes R3e special and worth repeating for the newcomers that might not realize it.

I actually find it quite fair:
if you buy their currency outside of steam you can pay a bit less, the content is yours forever, and unlike rfactor2 you get a discount from packs when you already own some of its contents.
The only thing i really dislike is the fact that you have to buy liveries, and the fact that prices are a bit high considering the models quality (but they often license whole series, and i think this adds to the cost)

This is a very honest assessment. If you want to race AI, it's great. If you want to race online, it's really no different than iRacing. They purposely pick series' that require you to buy stuff just to race. Then, shortly thereafter, it changes and you have to buy more stuff. Then in the end, no one is really racing anyway. It's more than poor honestly.

It probably is fair but it's a disincentive to buy into the sim for me. I would have to think about what cars and tracks I actually want and that means dedicating some time to thinking about it all.

Awesome sim, doesn't get the attention it deserves, probably because of somehow outdated graphics (which are not that bad, and can run on a potato, just like AC).

Best sound in the industry, great content, really good physics since Alex joined the team, ranked servers with clean racing. R3E really has a lot to offer. Free content is enough to get one started, and then buying additional stuff in not expensive at all if you use vRP (especially if you wait for sale)
