Trailer Posted for "The Sim Racer" Movie

A trailer has been shared for The Sim Racer movie, which prominently features a competitive sim racing tournament.

We're learning more about a movie that signifies sim racing hitting the mainstream. A new feature film from writer and director Brock Drury tells a story of a man attempting to pay down a debt by winning money in a sim race, and we now have a trailer for the film.

The trailer was released to The Sim Racer movie's website and Twitter account and shows the character of Luke Wallace, played by Roman Jacob Boylen, on hard times. He hopes to pay off his $9,600 debt by winning $20,000 in an iRacing tournament. The trailer also clearly shows Wallace donning a VR helmet. The official website of The Sim Racer movie offers a synopsis of the movie, and merchandise if you want to support the project.

It wasn't clear from the trailer or the official Twitter account of the movie when, or on which platforms, we'll be able to watch The Sim Racer. However we get to see it, this should be further validation of our hobby, or at least another means of spreading the word of the challenges of virtual racing.

Will you watch this movie? Let us know on Twitter at @RaceDepartment or in the comments section below!

Feels like the kind of plot that you could maybe pull off in an incredibly tongue-in-cheek buddy comedy but not anything else
If this were a comedy, and called Half Baked 2. It would probably catch fire. But it's a... Nevermind.

And another thing. How many action sequences from turning right on an oval, do they need? And if dude were that bad, no ammount of montages or serious faced thumb ups, are going to help him.

I think movie could be better if it was the story of a person getting into real life racing through simracing. So something like, kid who was really good at karts and stuff is forced to quit real life racing due to something happening (financial related) and then gets back into it via simracing and ends up winning races or something.
But it's just a trailer ;-)
You don't know how it ends \o/

It is like happy gilmore in plot, but is not funny and kinda lame, and is also basically an iracing advertisement.

He meets a girl who turns his head. When she tells him sim racing is stupid, he gives it up and becomes an accountant ;)

Or.. he meets a SUPER hot model who thinks sim racers are the coolest... :roflmao: Oh yeah, that could happen! nm
Yeah, he's going to be an accountant!

Watching the trailer had me thinking I'm a loser and should quit. Especially after the part where his wife/girlfriend gives him the look of 'oh, sweetie I think it's great you play video games as an adult' which looks all too familiar. :roflmao:
Then I thought of the people that created, developed and financed this work of art  and which made me feel better about myself.
The End
*available for rights to an equally bad movie

Looks like a digital remake of Days of Thunder based on NA$CAR’s boring oval style of hillbilly racing. Ill definitely NOT be watching this…ever!

Totally explains your account name now :)

The ONLY thing geekier than a movie about sim racers would be a movie about RC Helicopter pilots :)

Although the one in the picture below can go about 165 mph... That's a little bit cool.
It's white knuckle flying at that point. It's scary because it's fast and becomes a spec in the sky fast AND because it's about $5,000 worth of kit and electronics that can go splat!

And I do mean SPLAT!

If you are interested, this is my maiden flight, just kicking the tires on the most expensive heli I ever owned. It was from a limited production run of 50. One of these set the world speed record the year before I got one. It's the only heli that I sold for what I paid for every component new.

This is the same heli spinning up on my desk in my office.

I used to go to IRCHA each year. This is only to show what a smack 3D competitor looks like.

I'm done going off topic.

"You think I'd be a good race car driver?"
"You think I'm too nice of a person?"

You think you...

...ask too many damn questions?

YEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!
Sorry couldn't help it :roflmao:

Seriously though, WTH was that? This, if it's ever released, is gonna be horrible, and not in a "it's so bad, it's good" kinda way, just the worst. If a trailer makes you cringe at how much it sucks in the first 10 seconds, it's a guaranteed dumpster fire.

well, he basically win the race but at the last moment a power cut comes from nowhere so he is disconnected, giving the prize to the second place
No, he is wearing Samsung Odyssey, WMR will lose tracking as it gets dark in the room by the end of the race and he'll go off the track and crash.
The End.

Moral of a story: Race on monitor. :roflmao:

You can't expect Brad Pitt & Universal Studios to be behind the first sim racing movie project... so, someone was inspired enough to do it :) Good or bad, it's a first & I think we should support them.

I think it could be good, but they cast it wrong, and are coming at it from the wrong angle. It needs to be a comedy. Imagine how much funnier it would be with Will Ferrell as the main character, complete with stupid expression on his face, saying to his wife, "I found out I owe $9600 on the house, so I entered a sim race." For the rival they should have cast Clint Eastwood. Imagine Clint all squinty eyed, and mean mugged, saying "I'll see you on race day, punk!!!!" Or "I'm a hell of a lot faster than you'll ever live to be". That sounds more like something I would watch on Netflix. :D
