Pacific Coast Free Roam for Assetto Corsa Released

Assetto Corsa PCH 01.jpg
RD member Phoenix77 has released his latest free roam, Pacific Coast for Assetto Corsa, in dedication to his late brother Jeremy.

Thanks to mods, Assetto Corsa has a nearly inexhaustible amount of racing circuits to enjoy. And recently, more of the talented community modders have turned their attention to free roams and open world areas to explore. The latest such free roam is Pacific Coast, available now in version 1.0 for free here at RaceDepartment thanks to the work of Phoenix77.

Pacific Coast features 23 kilometers of winding highway in California, set between the rolling desert hills and the Pacific Ocean. Phoenix has meticulously recreated countless details of the US west coast area roads, including road surface patches, accurate flora, lookout stops, and a lot more.

Phoenix77 is perhaps best known for his LA Canyons free roam, which is also available here at RaceDepartment. The LA Canyons course was another impressive track and has become a favourite hangout and cruise location for online racing in Assetto Corsa. For both tracks, free versions can be downloaded now, and additional layouts can be purchased.

Among the paid versions is a two-way traffic layout, allowing you to set AI cars to drive on one side of the road only, effectively creating traffic for you to drive the highway with. Even without traffic, Pacific Coast creates a perfect chance to see what fun could be had if you had the keys to an exotic performance car and miles of highway to test its performance on.

Phoenix77’s two major releases are a great way to spend time while sim racing. They join several other excellent free roam and open world tracks available here at RD. Be sure to check out the AC Tracks download section to find these and other racing circuits from the past and present.

Be sure to let us know your favourite car to take to the highways of central California on this stretch of the Pacific Coast highway in the comments below.

Cheers for the shoutout Mike much appreciated, and massive thanks to all the staff at RaceDepartment. Especially @Bram Hengeveld for founding the site, and offering the vast amount of mods (for FREE).
I doubt either of my tracks would exist if it wasn't for this site, and creating them wouldn't have helped get me through some pretty dark times. I salute you all! :)

Massive Massive thanks go to @Ben O'Bro for all the help, commitment, talent and sheer coolness that has helped my track making journey advance no end... The man is a one man Rockstar Games! Cheers dude!

I didn't expect the release of 1.0 to be quite as emotional as it became... as just for a split second, maybe a milli-second... I wanted to phone my Bro to let him know all had gone well...... and I couldn't

Love you Bro.... Pacific Coast is for you, here's to the journey we shared, no matter how twisty the road got ♥️ x

I still need a competition, a possibility to create a race weekend or add a track to a custom championship (here perfect with the NfS Mod cars).
Thanks Kevin, but you obviously haven't tried Pacific Coast yet... It has 2 racing AI layouts. Northbound / Southbound.
Although the track is 23km's long (a few kms longer than the Nordschleife) If you give the AI a LaFerrari... They will make it in around 8 minutes. I think you'll find that quite the competition. Good luck, post a video if you manage to beat them!

At the moment I'd say Northbound is the more competitive line!

If you want another kind of competition, jump on a PCH server with around 20 other guys, so so fun, but it also does get terrifying! Cheers :)

Or you can hire a Rental Ferrari... Just like Will.... (or is it stolen?) Note: those are all AI cars
NOTE: Optional Two-Way Traffic layouts are coming later on this week!

Yes i had no time to try it yet. So i suppose i was too fast with my comment
(Somehow i thought it`ll be like LAC no race weekend mode).
My apologies for that!
Thats great news, will add the track to my "nfs classic" championship :inlove:
Thank you again!

No worries Kevin, well maybe a little fast... but not as fast as a LaFerrari on PCH :D

The only reason you can't do a full race weekend on LA Canyons.....
Assetto Corsa AI has no access to qualifying tyres that can last the 78 MILES of an Out / Hot / In lap!
If anyone makes tyres that can last the distance... Maybe!

Cheers, have fun!

I want to do something similar, can you maybe name me the tracks/roads that are suitable? Would be much appreciated :)
Last time I tried that (quite a while ago) there were multiple roads where the AI cars just stopped like 50m before the finish line (for example Transfaragasan or Alto Tajo), so I thought that AC's AI logic just couldn't cope with point-to-point racing

My knowledge is - its not possible to add point-to-point racing to a custom championship. It has to be a round-course.

So far there is not that much besides usual racetracks.
For the nfs and similar cars i use so far: Union Island (2 tracks), Damapur, Bannochbrae and Fonteny /even it does not fit timewise in the category. So the 2 new Pacific Coast tracks, are very welcome.

Ah ok, shame. I didn't use custom championship, my plan was to run the championship via Excel and have each car only once, so I can "recognize" them for the points after each race. But this was prevented by the mentioned AI logic at point-to-point tracks unfortunately

So happy to drive this track - great to drive something that I have drive on on for a change! Been waiting for this since I discovered the original version when I first found RD. And doesn't have the infinite pit of doom like LA Canyons :)

Looking forward to picking up the extras thank you so much!

Cool words dude, I agree... that's forever then!
The more fun everyone has the better... My Bro loved a gathering, very fitting that my tracks are used for car meets, love it!
Cheers!

I had yesterday a lot of fun on PCH the level of detail is absolutely crazy and its beautiful modeled. As someone who drove this road in real life its an absolute blast to have this Road now as Mod in AC. Thank you @Phoenix77 for PCH and of course also for LAC.

I remember when you changed your focus to LA Canyons after it started as some "experimenting project" for Pacific Coast.

Very awesome to see PC getting to 1.0 now after you've learnt so freaking much over the past years!

My csl DD arrived today. Gonna take it for a spin around pc 1.0! :geek::geek::inlove:

Simply amazing! Thank you very much for your work and specially for not forgetting the optimization. I had little hope when I first loaded the track but no drama at all: solid framerate in VR all the time.

Absolutely amazing what privateers like Phoenix77 can do...that Kunos couldn't (or hasn't).

P.S. Drag racing is point-to-point, so why not a 23-km. drag race?

Wow! What a beautiful and enjoyable driving spot you've created @Phoenix77

I've never thought of AC as a sim for just cruising about, but this is majestic!
I will enjoy every minute driving up and down the Pacific Coast. Thank you sir!

These roads by @Phoenix77 are such a welcome change of pace. Best for me to savor the experience and enjoy the views driving cars I might not want to race. It's a great reminder to just relax and have fun sometimes without all the competing. Since I live 15 mins off of PCH in "So-Cal" I'm also amazed how well the area is captured (minus the surfers - haha). Great work again!
