Formula 1 is in Austin, Texas this weekend for the United States Grand Prix, with the driver’s championship still very much up for grabs.

Only six races remain in the 2021 Formula 1 season, and the title fight between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton is still tightly contested. The two are separated by just six points entering this weekend, with Verstappen currently holding the lead.

This has been one of the closest battles for the driver’s championship in F1 history, with Hamilton and Verstappen and their respective Mercedes and Red Bull teams both assuming points leads in the championships at various times throughout the season.

The constructor’s championship is far from decided, but Mercedes’ current 30+ point lead seems to be the first sign of one team being the favourite to win so far this season. A late surge in the points from Valtteri Bottas has been the cause of the recent swing in Mercedes’s favour. His rival at Red Bull, Sergio Perez, has struggled lately but did join his teammate on the podium in Turkey.

Mid-pack, the exceptional season for McLaren has given the team in orange a 7.5 point advantage over their Ferrari rivals entering the last six races this year. The MCL35M looks to even have the speed to compete with the dominant Red Bull and Mercedes at various points in recent races. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will try and answer back in their Ferrari this weekend, coming off a race in Turkey where both finished in the top 10.

Track temperatures should be hot on Sunday for the race, with sunny conditions forecast and highs of over 30 degrees Celsius. Mercedes has won five of the last six F1 races held at Circuit of the Americas and will hope to put Hamilton on the top podium step to once again take the championship lead.

Damn…good drive Max. I think Mick taking as long as he did helped Max, giving him DRS on the final lap. Lewis gave a good fight but he had a slip just before that final DRS detection point.

The speed of that Merc on the straights was really scary. It was so much faster than the Honda that I believe even a .9s gap on the back straight wouldn't be enough for Max to hold Lewis if he got DRS.

The challenge is when the Merc gets close to another car, seems to struggle in the dirty air and I think the Redbull is definitely better when following which allowed Max to take his time.

Great driving by both, they will need to be on their A game for the next 5 races and so will their teams.
They both seemed to struggle with following. It look at least a lap for Max to get by Tsunoda and Mick looked like he was costing him serious time on lap 55.

It was odd that the Red Bull was Aable to follow so close on that first stint, which may have wrecked his tires.

For a few seasons now, the Merc is designed with the idea that it will be in the lead, which is probably why it is less stable when following another car.

This race was epic well deserved Max merc was like all the years the best car on this track
Really? I have see other race then
It was utter boring to me.
Cota is same as sochi monaco zandvoort.. little to no action.
Only some push and shuffle of alonso but for the most part no action at all.

Racing in f1 gets more boring with every race past.

Even in 2012 there was more on track action at most races then 2020 and 2021 combined

Bring back maldonado and the russian torpedo f1 needs more fire
Not good for budget cap those drivers but hey i want to see action not boring chess game.
I dont give a damn who wins
Maylander can win for all i care.
Watching nascar without sound/commentary was more fun then the last 10 races.

DRS meshed f1 up.
Its no racing when using tricks.
Its like driving with out your hands on the handle bar on a tricycle
