Have Your Say – Which Racing Title Is Overdue for a Sequel?

Sim Racing Sequel 01.jpg
Let us know in the comments below which racing game or racing sim you’d most like to see get a sequel first.

Racing titles can have an unusually long life span relative to other sports games. We want to hear which racing sim or racing game you feel is now due (or overdue) for a sequel.

There are many reasons why a racing title might be due for a sequel. Some might be at or near the limits of the gaming engine it’s built on. Others might be based on cars, tracks or racing series that are no longer relevant. Still others might be long forgotten by the developer, or the developer has gone out of business, and the game needs an update for modern hardware and gaming engines.

The racing game and racing sim community has been made aware of pending sequels for Assetto Corsa and Gran Turismo. Little is known about the AC sequel so far, but the GT title appears to be better versions of the existing, successful premise. Games like Need for Speed, GRID and Forza Horizon also have sequels pending. In this case the new release is an updated version of a proven formula, but some titles might be due for an overhaul.

RaceRoom and rFactor 2 are both currently supported titles that date back to 2013. New content, bug fixes and general improvements are frequently released by developers Sector 3 and Studio 397, respectively. But in both cases the game is based on an engine that provides players with a rewarding sim experience while lacking the eye-popping graphics of many of their contemporaries. Perhaps either or both are due for a new title on a more modern engine.

There are also discontinued titles and series such as Grand Prix, GTR and Driveclub that fans have been wishing to see updated for years. Grand Prix 4 is considered by some to be the greatest racing title ever made. GTR3 was reportedly in development over the past few years, though most now consider the project to be terminated based on the cancellation of the social media accounts. Driveclub is a cult favourite in the console world, with fans still enjoying the underrated game while curious outsiders seek physical copies to buy online to try it out.

So let us know in the comments below which sequel you’d most like to see in development. Maybe it’s a current title that’s now showing its age, or maybe it’s a mostly forgotten title that deserves a reboot on modern hardware. Let us know what title you’d want to see, and what changes you’d like to see versus the previous edition.

I'm excited for AC2, RF2 and especially for AMS3 that could be one if not the greatest sim of all time. I believe AMS2 is a messy tech demo for AMS3 development.

the sequel to pcars2 is called ams2
no, no really not. Both use the same engine b u t huge, huge difference when it comes to most of the car-handling. If u like stress-free racing choose AMS2. There are no CTDs, no unBOP‘ed series, no ongoing troublemaking updates (CSP) and a wonderfull graphic with truly high fps

Being an old git I grew up with the madness that is British saloon car racing, watching souped up version's of your dad's car trading paint and bumpers! is something that's never failed to thrill me and to this day some 30+ years later I still watch and (virtually) race touring cars. So I'd love to see a remake of toca or toca 2

Without a doubt - Grand Prix Legends. But a new version would have to have the ambience of the original or the long standing fans would never accept it. GPL is now 23 years old, still getting new mods and tracks, and still has an active online racing community.
Agree, I would like to see a wider set of categories with all the famous old tracks, Targa, Mille M, Charade Clermont F, Südschleife, etc etc

Since FIA GT serie is dead and replaced by Blancpain serie reproduced by ACC (with talent by Kunos), I wonder if GTR3 is still a good idea : the only good solution would be a GTR2 reboot with exactly same content but with today's graphics, and maybe the full seasons from 1997 to 2009 with dlc.

Another important sequel for me would be GT Legends 2 : why not reproduce the french Tour Auto Optic2000 ?

If a studio makes GT Legends 2 : the Tour Auto Game then instant buy :)
Missing that 3.0 csl...

Also it seems everyone forgot about pcars 3 was already released.

No time to read the whole thread, so I'm sorry if this has been said before, or if it's too much off topic.

Not exactly a sim, but a racing game that I'm so excited about is Circuit Superstars.

Although they are not related (I guess) Circuit Superstars is an amazing replacement for an old game I used to play, called Turbo Sliders.

I loved (and still) Turbo Sliders and I feel like Circuit Superstars is gonna have my heart in a near future also.

Definitely

Rally Championship 2000 (Mobil 1 Rally Championship)

loved the game, be great with better physics

RACE 07... GTR2... GT Legends.... something from SimBin?
Where are you, Simbin?

AC + built-in Weather and 24 Cycle + Improved AI = AC2

Just keep it easily moddable and allow some IAs online to build up some sparse human grids. I wouldn't need nothing more after that.

Crammond, but there's not much chance of that.

Assetto Corsa 2... what is it, 8 years since the original.
I think they will miss stefano quite a bit though.

And of course - isn't it time for rf3 yet.

As if they'll ever finish milking rf2. I was a huge RF fan. Was a beta tester for the original RF and was so excited for RF2 but it just... I can't put my finger on it. It just feels unfinished, and they keep slapping out paid DLC for it. Disappointing.

Well, think I gave the impression earlier that I was satisfied with status quo, but I think it's fair to share dreams.
Earlier someone stretched the bounds of this thread to include quality mods, so I'll take the slipstream.

A full modern brush of GTR2 PnG mod including historic tracks as Targa Florio, 1960s Buenos Aires 1000k, early 60s Sebring, 60s ADAC Nürburg 24stundenrennen, 60s Le Mans, 60s Spa, 60s Brands Hatch, 60s Crystal Palace, etc.

With possibilities for 900-1080 degrees of wheel rotation, improved tyre model, modern graphics and so on. Think many agree that PnG mod could be sold as a stand alone game.

My thoughts came to this as I just realized that 60s sports car legend Nino Vacarella sadly has passed away today ...
