Caterham Academy Coming to rFactor 2

As part of Studio 397's drip marketing for the Q3 content drop, today's announcement saw the Caterham Academy be added for free on August 8th.

After yesterday's announcement of the Mini Cooper S and the news from the day before about the World Wide Technology Raceway, the Caterham Seven Academy is now making its way to rFactor 2.

The Caterham Academy is a road-legal, simple, lightweight kit car that can be bought for less than £35.000.

Technical Specs

The 1.6l Ford engine produces 125 bhp or 93 kW and 150 Nm torque. With its 5-speed gearbox, it achieves 0-60 in 5.3 seconds.

The main selling point of the vehicle is its lightness, however, which is coming in at 625 kg including the driver.

This may not be the quickest vehicle on the planet, however, it will definitely allow close racing along many circuits.

Outlook for rFactor 2 and Caterham

In the announcement video, more models from the Caterham brand have been announced to be released in the upcoming months.

A little bit of speculation sees the 420R race package coming to rFactor 2 too. Basically, that would be a higher-powered version of the Academy car, while not being road legal.

What I'm personally expecting from this Caterham Academy vehicle would be to feature in the rookie matchmaking series instead of the Alpine Cup. This would fit perfectly, as the current season is set to run out on August 7th, just 1 day before the Caterham's release.

But whether that can come true is to be confirmed. In the meantime, let's just enjoy this grand addition to rFactor 2.

No. Why would I? If there‘s been another announcement then I‘m not up to speed - I have a busy life. Even so I wouldn‘t eat my words as they are accurate at the time they were published.
Your words were wholly inaccurate as S397 switched to quarterly releases over 6 months ago, so there was no reason to expect a peep about BTCC from S397 for the past 3 months.

I'm always a bit excited for more RF2 content and love Caterhams. The driving feel of RF2 is still my favorite. It's just too bad there is practically no online racing for it during the hours I could race. I live in the USA.

If I had the time , I would love to get a US club together but with all I have going on in my life, it just isn't realistic.

We currently have two positive articles about rF2 just released, could the guys who don't like the game, company, business plan or road map please refrain from jumping into the discussion and repeating their complaints that have been covered ad nauseam in almost every other rF2 thread.
Thank you.

I pretty much exclusively race historic cars or cars with H-pattern shifter and no electronic driving aids. So, for me, the Cat and the Mini are both very welcome additions to my favourite sim.

I also only race online and have roughly zero interest in SP racing. I'm happy to race online in a single model race or in a race/series/championship with 2 or more roughly matched different makes/models.

Obviously, everyone will have their own preferences and their own agenda and that's fine. I understand that people who prefer SP are feeling let down by S397. I'm sure that people have other valid grievances too, but I just felt the urge to offer my viewpoint - in the interest of fairness and balance.

Credit where it's due, a few months ago there was a lot of talk about MSG and how worried people were for the future of rF2. That noise has thankfully died down a little and we seem to be seeing some genuine attempts to move the platform forward. Rome wasn't built in a day (or even 10 years) but IMHO recent developements seem to show promise. Long may that continue.

Peace brothers. :D

S397 should just about dish out about 50 interesting cars and 20 tracks for me to feel like I've gained something after paying them 42 euros for a car pack, while the game costs 30.

You could have waited for a Sales period.
This Summer Sale they botched the dates in which the discounts kicked in, but they still happened (I believe 25%, which meant about 3 Euros per car on that pack).

These Caterhams and the potentially fun little Minis are moving my mouse closer to a (re)Install of RF2, it however still needs AI fixes & TLC before I press the button...but it's certainly moving closer....

I don't understand.... you paid for the base game, then bought some DLC of your own volition, and now you feel they owe you something?

You're gonna have to help me out here? Surely the vendor has the right to determine their own pricing policy? It has to be up to the consumer to decide on value and whether they are happy to go ahead and buy. You even get the chance to refund if you're quick.

I agree that more free content would be welcome. I'm not sure that posting negative comments about it on this thread (which is about an item of free content) is the way I personally would go about trying to encourage S397 to offer us more free content though... seems like it may risk falling on the side of being counter productive to me.

Anyway, same old arguments, I'll say no more. :)

GT3 series on various sims always degenerate to single-make racing anyway: in iRacing everyone drives the AMG (or whatever car happens to be the best on this week's track), in RaceRoom the Ferrari, in ACC the Audi, and in AMS2 the McLaren.
The Spa 2.4 hours in RaceRoom featured 7 different cars and just 1 Ferrari in the top split...

With many games you get the basecontent for a lot less than the DLC's.
Have a look at other genre's of gaming.
Only to find out that simracing has the best bang for the buck with dlc's
In other games you buy skins and fantasy weapons for 10 to 20 euros.
Not a even one 2% off the human effort and licensing went in to those items compared to our DLC's

It can be fun to race whatever wherever, for sure. But I personally prefer to sim race in a full field of cars from a given season of a real world series on a (roughly) period-correct track used in that season – using sim racing to learn about and simulate real world motorsport. So I know rF2 will allow me to race Caterhams in multiclass with historical Minis at Gateway in the rain... but I won't want to :roflmao:
Based on what you said the caterham academy should be perfect for you then. They race in a one make series on most of the UK tracks. So this is a perfect addition to reflect real life motorsport.

Love me a Caterham, but AMS 1 and AMS 2 already have a great Caterham-roster.
Its always good to see how different titles go about getting the physics / models right for these cars. For me the AMS Caterhams are too loose at the back so I would be interested to see how RF2 caterhams handle.

These are microtransactions, not DLCs. This would be an example for a DLC in a different genre:

Do you have an understanding what DLC means? A DLC can be any form of content, so weapons or skins are included. And 10 to 20 Euro is certainly not a micro transaction, at least not where I live.

So the thread is now about what particular form of monetisation is applicable here.
Does it really matter what they call it and of course you have the choice of whether to buy it or not.
Plus unlike a lot of these other games it's not PtW.
And with that let's get back on topic please.

Am one of the people who bought RF2 from day one but don't play it down to low online MP...Caterham is one of my favorite cars so i know this will go down well as it's great for close racing...They should have made the Mini free too....the combo of the Mini and Caterham will add to help with MP participation, RF2 can still go a long way.
