The teams behind Assetto Corsa held a lengthy private press event to reveal their plans for the Assetto Corsa group of games. The Playstation 5 and Xbox Series S/X releases are a welcome sight for owners of the current generation of consoles. Sony has sold over 10 million PS5 units worldwide, with Microsoft’s Series S and X consoles exceeding 6 million units sold, but the racing game genre has been slow to adopt the improved capabilities of the latest consoles.

The mobile version of Assetto Corsa is the first thing fans will be able to get their hands on, with release scheduled for Tuesday. Whether racing sims are viable on handheld devices will be debated for years to come, but the idea of having any version of Assetto Corsa in our pockets is something that’s sure to appeal to many fans.

Although Kunos and 505 Games were vague about the future content for ACC, just knowing more is coming is good news. It’s easy to assume the coming cars outside of the BMW M4 GT3 could be GT2 cars. Competizione’s deal with SRO will continue to dictate the content, and with the majority of the current GT3 and GT4 cars already in place, GT2 is likely next. If this proves true, Competizione players can expect GT2 entries from Audi, Ferrari, KTM, Lamborghini and Porsche. Time will tell.

In addition to the cars, the tease of new tracks is equally intriguing. There were hints that future tracks would include American circuits. If this turns out to be the GT World Challenge America courses, that could mean the addition of Sonoma, Circuit of the Americas, Virginia International, Road America, Watkins Glen, Sebring and Indianapolis. It’s a big wish, but any of these tracks would be a great addition to ACC.

So, lots of exciting things coming from Kunos and 505 games in the future. They haven’t given us much in the way of detail to the forthcoming content for Assetto Corsa Competizione or Assetto Corsa 2, but the news of 9th generation consoles getting proper versions of ACC is a big deal in the console racing world, and most sim racers are probably going to give in to temptation and keep AC in our pockets via mobile.

Let us know your thoughts on the announcements, and which bits of news have you most excited for the future of the Assetto Corsa franchise.

Awaiting for AC2 with great hopes, not cleaning the dust in ACC cos performance sucks (on triples or VR), and asking myself ( and to any kunos guy reading this) why DLSS with the actual lack of stock and weird prices of GPUs, plus the lucky ones with a DLSS capable GPU are the ones with less performance issues, and dont focus on AMD FSSR? Its open source, works in Nvidia or AMD cards, and works as a charm.

In AC with my "old" GTX 1080 i was on 80-100fps on huge tracks like Nords or LAC with triple 2k setup using CSP Sol etc etc and a fine tune of the settings, with FSR im with 120fps rock solid with some higher settings, with my Pimax 5k+ 90fps with some dropouts here and there, with FSR on and raised quality options, 90fps rock solid.

And in the meantime, ACC is gettin dust cos the only way to run it smoothly ( and not much....) its with a single screen.

I think implementing DLSS as primary option is a waste of time and resources, why put a technology restricted to very few users when you can put one for every single user of your games? And not just the PC users, new consoles are just AMD hardware (CPU and GPU) and AFAIK Xbox FSR is already confirmed, PS support is not officially confirmed yet... but someone thinks Sony aint gonna use any option they can when MS is already using it? its a suicide from a performance or commercial side of view.

Regards.

It was part of the exclusive event and not the showcase.
What exclusive event? The IGN interview?

Or was there an update 99% of us ACC players were not privy to? (Should there not be a separate news article on what news were announced there as opposed to the Showcase and the IGN interview?)

Pretty sure VR is near dead, There is very little support for it and pretty much no big budget games designed for it as a platform.

The only place it seems to have any buzz at all is in stand-alone units.

Thats just not true at all. Its expected now for new games to have support (F1 games still getting negatives for not having it), and there are still big budget games being made. This trend is happening with all games, what big budget titles at all are coming out anytime soon? VR is a niche, of course itll have less AAA games, but the fact that theres such a drought across the board may make it look bad for VR, but its not going to die. The Quest 2 has so, so many users, its anything but a dead market.

"The global VR market size was estimated at USD 15.81 billion in 2020 and is expected to reach USD 21.83 billion in 2021. The global VR market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 18% from 2021 to 2028 to reach USD 69.60 billion by 2028".
The cost of PC hardware is the biggest draw back, but I expect cloud streaming will soon make high quality VR much more affordable.

It's dead, dude. No one is interested in it anymore. Unless they introduce something revolutionary to improve performance and experience, it's just a niche of die hard enthusiasts who refuses to see the reality.

From your perspective of (I assume) a serious simracer, the screen is still preferable because it's more comfortable and convenient. Not saying you're wrong but why do you think VR is dead? (genuinely interested). Doesn't everything point towards the opposite? There are some hurdles of course (higher res, more comfortable and convenient etc) but doesn't it feel like we're getting there now? As mentioned, the main set back is the cost of the high spec PC to run with good framerates, but it is possible (although expensive) and hopefully the costs will fall soon enough with cloud streaming.

I love my VR headset, But I don't have a single fully fledged game where it was incorporated into the game as a base element, and in games where its tacked on as after thought it either runs terribly or its a bastard to get around the in game UI. When it all falls into place and I'm on track with a usable frame-rate its stunning but getting to that point is a poor experience.

My kids have a bunch of small scale VR games in steam which they have some fun with, but apart from that I have some sims that support it, the incredibly rubbish Skyrim VR and no games on the horizon worth buying.

I don't think its going to die as in disappear, But it certainly hasn't established itself as a platform nor has it made any change in the industry. I wouldn't recommend anyone buy one unless they were either hardcore sim focused or very very casual and want to cut up floating fruit.

It wasn't until recently that I'd ever had a PC that can comfortably run everything in VR.. I do think that makes a big difference. If you have an older gen HMD and PC then the VR is less likely to be stunning every time. ACC, as I understand it, doesn't work well with VR. Fortunately, AC in VR works flawlessly for me, but it's true, it's a bit of a pain to get into.

Most VR enthusiasts have top of the line systems. Yet with 3080Ti, i9-9900K and still cannot get acceptable image quality with 90fps on G2.
Even 60fps with higher settings looks like last century comparing to the beauty of Samsung G9 in glorious HDR (ACC). And it's not like I am completely VR ignorant, many use my AC and ACC VR settings guides with great success. There is a point when you get fed up with infinite tinkering and want just enjoy butter smooth racing, day or night, dry or pour.
That initial ooh-ahh is over, besides HMD makers exiting VR business like the house on fire, look at all new VR "games", it's just pathetic, no one looks at the platform as business opportunity anymore except may be Facebook, but for different reason, definitely not PC gaming.
Every new year is supposed to be a year of VR. And they all come and go without making any significant impact.
Well, may be 2022 will change it all. :whistling:

Yeah, VR is dead, people just keep ignoring that fact for some reason ;)

So you are expecting massive investment for 3% of users? I've got an old 3dfx Voodoo video card lying about, should I expect all companies to rewrite their code to support the Glide graphics system? 3% is a growing number, it is indeed something to watch, but the expectation that all sims should be writing their code first for VR seems ... rather demanding. Of that 3%, how many are flying in space with Elite? Or Flight Sims? What smaller percentage of that 3% is the racing community's portion?

The data shared in the survey represents the number of headsets connected to Steam over a given month, so we call the resulting figure ‘monthly-connected headsets’ for clarity; it’s the closest official figure there is to ‘monthly active VR users’ on Steam, with the caveat that it only tells us how many VR headsets were connected, not how many were actually used.
Which is essentially how many people have headsets, not actively use them. But even with that it's just 2.3% of users.

Something like average active users with play hours would be more interesting. You can track that from Steamcharts by looking at the most popular VR titles like Half Life Alyx, Beat Saber, not sure what else is there that people invest their time into.

I am still hopeful that one day we'll get proper a VR, it's just not today unfortunately.

Exciting news!

Although ray tracing is not coming to PC, we'll get DLSS (currently only for for the RTX cards) early 2022 I understood, which should vastly help frame rates and smoothness. Excellent! ...or did I dream this up? :geek:
wait, does acc support dlss currently? I own an RTX card and never seen that option
