A glimpse into the future of RaceDepartment - Beta Feature | Mod searching

RaceDepartment hosts thousands of mods across nearly every sim out there so finding exactly what you are looking for can sometimes be a little tricky. We have been listening to the feedback and busy working on solutions to improve the site.

We’re currently testing some new features which will not only make finding mods a lot easier but also downloading and installing said mods. We aren't ready to unleash the new tools just yet but we would like to get some initial feedback on part of the solution - mod filtering.

You can now search for ACC skins by filtering by class and car brand. You can also search by keywords like item author name, file name etc. So if you are looking for that perfect skin to start your next league with, it is now easier than ever. Here's how to use the new filter system:

Step 1 - Select the car class - Simply click one of the class buttons, CUP, GT4 or GT3. This will filter all the skins by the selected class.

Step 2 - Select the car brand - Now choose the brand of car you are looking for. A list of results comprising the skins of both the selected class and car brand will be displayed.

Step 2a - Optional search field - If you want to refine your search a bit further you can search the results with keywords.

Step 3 - Choose your skin
- Browse the results for your perfect skin and hit the download button. It will direct you to the download page.

Using the page will give us some data on how people use this beta feature but what we really need is feedback from you guys. There is a number of links to a survey on the page. It's only 10 short questions but the data will be incredibly useful for us. Please take the time to fill out the survey.

Also let me know in the comments below what you think. Just tag me in your comment to make sure I see it.

Things I would like to add which aren't there yet:
  • Car model - E.G. Evo models, Car Years Etc.
  • Linking from author name to their other resources
  • "Last updated" date and version number
Like I say this is just a glimpse into the future of what we are thinking about and you can consider this a 0.5 version of this feature. There is a lot more to come. This beta feature will only be accessible until 31st Jan 2022 by which time we will hopefully have other new features for you to try.

I look forward to hearing your feedback.

Yay! v I believe this was a suggestion made by a few of us a while back to make the downloads section more easy to browse for specific needs. Well done lads on bringing this to the community.

Thanks for this addition. By the way does anybody knows how to do single player same class racing with the mod skins instead of the (sometimes) ugly custom skins from acc?

It's something I recently asked for too, am pleased to see it happening!! Be great if the mods which I bookmark can be organised like this also.

Cool idea boy ... finally looking for a mod doesn't become a nightmare. Thank you for this! :D

Nice and simple! As a dev I know this would be hard but it be super nice to have this across all titles and mods, but guess the main challange would getting all the data from mods and actually placing them where it makes sense.

Anyways, the best sim site there is. Keep it up

I like it! coincidentally discovered that feature this morning already on my first time looking for ACC liveries. One thing I would like to see added is sorting on rating or downloads. And I was also confused by the CTA text that said "download now" and it took me to the detail page instead. Maybe the download now could start the download right away and clicking on the title of the box (which currently is not a link) can take you to the detail page?

Looks good, neat and convenient ! Sometimes with the current version it feels a bit hard to find specific mods and resources, but looks like this will make it easier.

As far as I know, AI cannot use your imported mod skins. Only you can.

Hopefully hitting the DL button will actually download the file in the future. I think if you add the various car pics if you hover over the main would be nice touch as well. Just my 2cents.

Very cool. I never particularly cared about skins, but with a tool like this, I just might.
