Circuit De La Sarthe will be alive with action this week as the most famous endurance race in the world, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, will see 62 cars do battle on the track this weekend.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is perhaps the most famous race in the world. 2022 is the 90th running of the endurance race, and drivers from around the globe will meet in France with a chance to make automotive history.

The 2022 24 Hours of Le Mans will take place on the 11th and 12th of June. The weather for Le Mans, France over the weekend is looking ideal for racing action. The forecast is calling for clear or lightly clouded skies for the entire race duration, with a low temperature of 11 degrees Celsius, and highs of 26.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans always attracts drivers known for racing outside of Le Mans or WEC, and this year is no exception. Brendon Hartley, Robert Kubica, Shane van Gisbergen, Pietro Fittipaldi and Romain Dumas are just some of the participants this weekend, and Kevin Magnussen is listed as a reserve driver.

There are four classes competing this weekend: Hypercar, LMP2, LMGTE Pro and LMGTE Am. This is just the second year of Hypercar racing at Le Mans, and the 2021 roster of two Toyotas, and Alpine and two cars from Glickenhaus will return. 26 of the 27 entries in the LMP2 category will run the Oreca 07-Gibson, with the only other entry being a Ligier JS P217-Gibson. The Pro category of GT Endurance will feature entries from Chevrolet, Ferrari and Porsche, while the Amateur category showcases a more diverse field that includes three Aston Martin cars.

The 2021 24 Hours of Le Mans was the inaugural race for the Hypercar category. The race saw the Toyota GR010 Hybrid driven by Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and José María López take the overall win. The LMP2 category was won in dramatic fashion by the Oreca 07 of Robin Frijns, Ferdinand von Habsburg and Charles Milesi, with a flag person having to leap out of the way of a last second lunge at the finish. 2021's winning GT entry was the Ferrari 488 GTE Evo driven by James Calado, Alessandro Pier Guidi and Côme Ledogar.

Already paid my €9,99 for the live streaming - although I think it's going to be running in the background this year as I've got some new toys to play with.

And what is your job sir? "I am Car Wiper #3." And what does that entail? "I wipe the car, I wipe the car, I wipe the car. Someday I hope to get promoted to Window Wiper #2."

5 cars in the premiere class. Who will be the unlucky 2 that will not get a trophy? Will the 3 on the podium even finish the race?

I wish the Hypercar and LMGTE Pro categories had more entries. The real races will be in LMP2 and LMGTE Am. Although I don't understand the difference between "Pro" and "Am", since there are plenty of professional drivers in LMGTE Am...

Anyway, it's still a great race for me, because I discovered it in the Michel Vaillant comic books when I was a kid and it has always fascinated me ever since. Plus, it's the only reason I still have rFactor 2 on my computer. This is one of my favorite tracks for hot lapping.

Here's one from the "history books", a drive at the Circuit de la Sarthe with Mike Hawthorn, from 1956:

Driving out the Aston Martin DBR1-300 first time in PC2 in 2020 I recalled this vid in my memory, having watched it years before in a loop. The DBR1-300 of which I've used in 2020 and 2021 as my Le Mans real weekend sim preparation of a 24hr-in-2hrs mixed class Vintage GTC + Vintage Prototype B + Vintage GTA mixed weather + day/night event with great joy, to replace my previous preparation of mixed mod GTR2 and rF1 Le Mans events of additional racing time. If only PC2 had this Jaguar D-type in the rooster (or better: AMS2).
Pretty sure the vid have been available before this YT upload in 2017?

In Canada, I'd suggest paying for a month of Motortrend On Demand is worth the cost of entry to watch Le Mans. There's probably also a free trial for a month. I did that last year.

When Le Mans is over there's actually great content like Clarkson-era Top Gear (all seasons), and new Top Gear, and some Haggerty shows I like such as Head 2 Head and Ignition.

They also have some hard to find live races like V8 Supercars from Australia, lots of GT, Superbikes. Really actually impressive.

Some interesting things to see in the midfield:
- Wishing a great race to Estre, deserved after the Grello's incident at 24h Nurburgring this year;
- Curious to see Simgrid's coach Dave behind the wheel;
- Some F1 veterans gems, specially Kubica and Fisichela;
- Finally after getting more time taming the RSR, Fassbender will make it to LeMans;
It might be a good one!

I find the idea and history of Le Mans more interesting that its current form. I'm kind of stuck in the past before chicanes and 'hyper'cars. Regular cars will do me.
Agree... toyota win the race again with no competition
Go for the Gte and Lmp2
