2022 Plans Teased in Automobilista 2 December Dev Update

Automobilista 2 2022 Roadmap 01.jpg
Reiza Studios has released the December, 2021 development roadmap for Automobilista 2, which details updates for January and beyond.

Reiza's last development update of 2021 was a significant one. The team behind Automobilista 2 confirmed that some pending content is going to be delayed, explained why the release of some overdue content isn't imminent, and summarized their plans for the title through 2022.

For those who bought the Racin' USA DLC part 2 expecting to have Road America added before now, you'll have another month to wait, as Reiza plans to complete the DLC pack in the January end-of-month update. Likewise, those who have been hoping to drive vintage layouts of Nurburgring and Spa will need to wait a bit longer, as the tracks are now expected in the first quarter of 2022.

Reiza explained the delays in releasing content players were expecting as a "distinction between plans and commitments".

Owners of AMS2 can soon look forward to driving more Formula 1-inspired cars, as the title will soon receive the Formula Retro Gen 3, modeled after the 1983 F1 cars, will be released soon.

As far as the broader plans for the development of Automobilista 2 in 2022, Reiza noted "New cars from premium brands filling up existing classes as well as well as branching out to new ones, new tracks, historical tracks, further AI development, more multiplayer features, Steam achievements, full course yellows, oval racing, dirt racing and maybe the beginning of what should be a very elaborate career mode".

So, it would seem that big things are coming to AMS2 this calendar year, but a bit more patience will be required for now.

Is there anything mentioned in the dev update that you're looking forward to? Let us know in the comments.

I like the fact that they want to fill up existing classes already in the game.

The big news for me is that they're planning to implement full course yellows in the game. Are you reading this Kunos? It can be done. Why isn't it in ACC?

AMS 2 improved a whole lot last year as a package. Cars are enjoyable to drive, AI is pretty enjoyable to fight, graphics all things considered (performance, clarity) are among the best simracing offers. And it still has big potential to improve further on all fronts.

What I'd like to see in 2022 is polish, to have all content on the same quality level. I know many here are all for historic content, but I am kind of missing modern content being added to the game, and expanding our current classes, although that would need some expensive licenses.

Some cars are great, some cars are terrible. The biggest mistake was they called AMS2 a full-release a couple of years too early, as it probably still should be in early access. If you think of the game that way (nearing the end of early access) suddenly things begin to make so much sense (some cars are great while others not, some features promised have been delivered while others haven't).

Reiza will eventually get there (or at least to the point where the majority of cars are great as of course everyone will always find a couple they don't like), I just hope the marketing and updates going forward are more transparent, Reiza sticks to the proposed timelines better, and the team finishes this whole giant AMS2 project strong.

I wish them only the best of luck this 2022 year.

When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary;
When troubles come and my heart burdened be;
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence,
Until you come and sit awhile with me.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be.

This is what I feel when I am playing AMS 2 :inlove:

Some of the criticisms on this thread are valid,others are whining and the "Madness engine" stuff is just flat out boring.
AMS2 is a great pick up & play sim,I have enjoyed all the progress in 2021 & I am sure the progress in 2022 will be just as enjoyable.
It doesnt simulate all the aspects ofreal life racing as well as ACC or Iracing but then both of those titles have huge financial backing with huge amounts of resources & people to create new content & solve problems.
ACC has limited cars & tracks,Iracing is expensive so AMS2 fills a great gap for me with varied content & it has improved with every update.

This update is actually less ambitious in terms of content than the previous ones - no new cars or tracks revealed. That's probably a good thing since there's lots of maturation to perform on the new features developed in 2021. All these promises of new features are of course highly speculative, I doubt most of this stuff will actually arrive in 2022, maybe in 2023. Hopefully they are able to expand the team a bit to bring in more hands, it really feels like Renato and co are burning out as they are falling more and more behind with the original roadmap. Shame if that was the case as the game is really on the verge of a breakthrough.

As an openwheel fan I love the fact that there is nearly every decade available in AMS2 now regarding F1 cars. Combine that with the ability to customize drivers, skills and car skins this is perfect. Now I wish they really can make huge steps towards better AI because right now they’re still not good or convincing enough. If they can get the AI as good as the Iracing AI I’m happy.

Well i paid Spa DLC and i hope they release Spa 1966, now the circuit ported from Pcars2 still waiting, ok no problem, i bought Racing Usa pt.1 still GTE cars are shaking on replays like a cat in the water, and never fixes, now Racing Usa pt.2 DLC is not complete, i think this is not the best way to growing up, this delayed content doesn't help. Still waiting those cars like Nissan R390 GT1 and R89 we seen just a month ago, and now they are working on F1? Sorry but difficult to trust if you not moving on a straight direction

a) they mentioned that the vintage Spa will be an early '70s version (same as PCARS) and will be Q1 next year. Personally, I'm glad about this - I hope they focus on '70s a bit rather than do some '60s and some '70s as those two decades have a very different 'feel' to them (basically, one has armco all the way around and one has trees for walls!).

b) they're always going to be working on multiple things at multiple times. They showed the Nissans and Aston whilst mentioning they're still finalising details with new manufacturers, so no doubt these will arrive (almost certainly for free) when they're ready and signed off (which isn't an issue they have with the generic formula cars).

I sort of see your point, especially regarding Nurburgring and Spa vintage versions, as these have been paid for. Same with the USA pt2 remaining content. But the blog addresses those points head on so I can't complain at that

AMS2 for me at the moment is;

Good
- Performance, both in VR and on 49inch monitor is superb
- Graphics and lighting effects are excellent.
- Content, really great mix of modern and historic cars and tracks, which I love.

Bad
- Mulitiplayer, not many players online and it’s mainly gt3 lobbies which is not my cup of tea which means I have to race the AI.
- AI, they are awful and don’t seem to be operating with the same laws of physics as me, take any open wheel to somewhere like oulton park and you see the AI just ramping over the sausage curbs in the chicanes like they’re not even there, getting up on 2 wheels lap after lap. Then go to Bathurst in prototypes and see how on the back straight you magically have an extra 200 hp and fly past 3 or 4 cars every lap. The AI really take me out of the experience.
-Physics/Ffb, it has improved but most cars seem to bounce and slide around in the most unrealistic way. High downforce cars don’t drift around corners and power slide out of them with a little counter steering but this is how most cars drive in AMS2. Ffb on my sc2 feels a bit all over the place but if it’s tied to the physics then it’s not surprising because it’s all a bit too busy with too much going on.

I’m a massive reiza fan and think I’ve bought everything they’ve done from GSC onwards including all dlc’s and the dlc’s for RF2 but I think they’ve got alot of work to do to get this up to the standard of their previous work. I laughed at people when they criticised reiza for using the madness engine and mockingly called them ‘armchair physics experts’ but I actually think they may have been right. The ‘sticky diff’ bug is a case in point, where reiza had been developing the game for a long time but had yet to notice a huge physics bug in the engine. I don’t blame reiza as they’re trying to untangle other peoples work and mould it into something new.
Hopefully they can do it as they deserve every success and should be recognised by a wider simracing audience, I just hope they can get to grips with this engine in 2022.
Fingers crossed!

hmmmm, wonder where the elusive mysterious Dirt DLC is? Big mentioning before this game was even released and now mums the word!

Its called the Madness Engine cause people still believe its physics can be fixed.

I kid, best of luck to Reiza this year.
The Madness Engine is just a piece of software. You can modify the Madness engine to simulate RF2 physics if you want. You can even turn a bird simulator into a flight simulator.

Looks like the Group C class will be expanded with the Nissan. Looking forward to that! One of my favorite classes in AMS 2.

It was mentioned as being planned for this year if you had actually bothered to read the dev blog. As they start work on it, it will get teased in future blog entries.

These "big things" are just features already seen in pCars 2 lol.

both of those titles have huge financial backing with huge amounts of resources & people to create new content & solve problems.
Not only those Two, all the other sims, not forgetting Race Room and rFactor 2 now have deep pocket financial backing, Reiza studios are the only one that don't have any form of backing they are the small guys of sim racing developers, one can only thank Ian Bell for allowing them to use the Madness Engine for free.

And to those that claim AMS 2 feels like Pcars 2, well every single ISI Engine powered sim from the last Twenty years feels like rFactor in some way or another.
