For the first time since 2019, Formula 1 is back in action in Canada with a dominant Red Bull team seeking their 6th consecutive win.

After two years of Montreal enforcing COVID safety protocols that resulted in cancellations, F1 is back on track at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, site of the 2022 Canadian Grand Prix.

This is the ninth race of the season, and already Red Bull is looking untouchable. A hot start to the season by Ferrari and Charles LeClerc has cooled significantly, and the blue team is now holding a commanding lead in the constructors championship.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, F1’s reigning driver’s champion, is also looking in peak form, and has established a comfortable lead from LeClerc after both Ferrari cars failed to finish the race in Azerbaijan.

This weekend in Montreal could see some exciting driving thanks to mixed weather conditions. At the time of this writing, Saturday’s qualifying session is forecast to be in the wet, with conditions clearing before Sunday’s race.

Canada has hosted some exciting racing over the years, and fans of teams like Ferrari, Mercedes and McLaren will be hoping for their respective favourite teams to produce some excitement by challenging Red Bull.

Are you looking forward to this race? Is this going to be yet another race win for Red Bull? Let us know your thoughts on the 2022 Canadian GP in the comments below or on Twitter @RaceDepartment

I will never understand qualifying
Why should cars relegated to back of grid be able to knock out Gasly out of Q1 who has done nothing wrong ?

I guess the fact you can have just a couple places grid drop, it'll depend where you end up on qualifying. And that extends to the whole range of possible grid drops.

I do agree though, it's a bit messy. But on the other hand, you just have the '1' rule.
But I guess if you have a 19 place grid drop, you can still recover 1 place by getting 'pole' :)

But yeah. maybe something like 'if you can't get a possible higher place than 15th, you can't knock out anyone out of the Q1 and cannot proceed to Q2' would be something. On the other hand, it leaves the ball in Gasly's court. If he can't get out of Q2, it's his own fault.

I talking about Q1 only
Charles is back of grid
They should let him do Q1 of course but then remove his time
Then Gasly would have been 15th

There was a reason Williams/Patrick Head came up the Active Suspension concept during the Ground Effect years. (first employed, that I know of, by Chaparral in 1970 with the Can-Am 2J sucker car.)
Googles it. What a car! So ugly that it is absolutely gorgeously beautiful and you can't but love it.

However, active fans run by fuel or electricity vacuuming and sucking air (negative pressure) is a concept that my brain can comprehend unlike when they talk about negative air pressure under the car only due to fixed aero parts.

Checked off a bucket list item today and finally made my first GP. That Ferrari is visibly faster than anything else on the straight after turn 34. Pretty mind boggling to see.
Happy for u! Don't tell our secret 2 any1, which is that watching races in real life doesn't make sense, and that it's the combination of all the experiences that is worth it.

Gasly was not listed as 15th due to his being 16th. So even if Charles was penalized down 19spots, Gasly would still have not been physically driving during the Q2 & Q1 sessions, so he wouldn't be on track to try and improve his placing. (& it was obvious that LeClerc was not really trying) In the end, it all fell to Pierre and his team for not performing better. The penalty that drivers like LeClerc & Tsunoda incurred, were negative placings AFTER their qualifying efforts. The FIA didn't say, Charles you are 19th & Tsu is 20th. They were given penalties that moved them back to those positions. I think it was just last year, Hamilton was knocked down to 10th, again the FIA didn't say 10th is the proper spot for you Sir Lewis, they subtracted the prescribed penalty from his ultimate qualifying position. If Gasly deserved to be in Q2 & then Q1, he needed to outperform a lackluster Ferrari that whose driver was protecting the equipment rather than setting a decent time.

The way Alonso was controlling the sliding at the last corner every lap was completely insane. It reminded me the video of one of his practice sessions karting at Oviedo under heavy rain.

(looking for this video found a lot in the same style, Fernando karting on rain lol, funny guy)

Skies are blue, stands are packed, it is 11:30 AM and the Ferrari Challenge wannabe racestars are layering Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in carbon fiber shards.
