Welcome to the 2021 Formula One Portuguese Grand Prix. Let's get talking about this weekend's race, and don't forget to back your favourite in our poll!

With various flyaway events unable to take place at the beginning of this year, the F1 calendar would have been looking relatively bare. After last year's successful visit to the Algarve International Circuit, we therefore return to Portimao for the third race on this year's calendar and F1's 27th in Portugal.

The track is given great character by its undulating nature, with many commenting on F1's first visit here that it was reminiscent of a rollercoaster. Ample track width also means that the circuit features plenty of overtaking opportunities. So many in fact, that the DRS zone on the main straight has been shortened to make it a little more challenging into turn one. An additional, short DRS zone has been added to the back straight however, which should make it easier for cars to keep up with one another during the middle of the lap.

A cool and dry weekend is expected, so we are unlikely to enjoy a repeat of the wet conditions the race started in last year. Also different to last season's event will be the track limits. Last year the white lines were used as the cut off point, but this time the drivers will be allowed to use the kerbs as the limit. It will be interesting to see whetherthis allows the drivers to match last year's lap times, in spite of the new regulations reducing rear downforce.

With Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton having finished first and second between them at both races this year, it's hard to look beyond one of them for the win on Sunday. With that being said, Sergio Perez impressed at Imola with a front row start, and will no doubt be looking to build on that momentum. Let us know what you're hoping for this weekend, and don't forget to vote for your favourite to win in the poll!

Anyone using F1TV and it keeps crashing or getting stuck in a buffering loop (or casting to TV keeps crashing)? I have 100Mbit Down/30Mbit Up fiber connection with 2ms to my ISP so I don't have internet issues.
Same issue here with fiber and 400 mb up and down.
Sometimes they really have a poor service.
It was ok at the end of the race.

Yea it really sucks...I've stopped using cable years ago and was happy that F1TV finally added streaming to TV as an option...plopped down on the couch but had to reload it 20 times in the first 15 minutes of the race. Got pissed off and went back to my PC to watch the rest...but same issue. They need to sort that out ASAP...it's not like they don't know how popular F1 is worldwide.

Sad day for Redbull, the mercedes is again the fastest car no excuse. not only faster .. it seems that this car is more balanced. Red bull struggle in the corners will still have a lot of work to do. Max could never win today but I already knew that on Friday and took the maximum today out of p2
The fastest car excuse is been used to death. Try to give credit when due... Max made a little error, Lewis saw it and got the move done.

The cars are very closely matched.

Max would have got pole but track limt.

Max would have got fastest lap today but track limits... You see..
These dam track limits!!!

Oh yea I almost forgot: meanwhile in the back we have possibly the most hilarious driver since our Lord and savior. How was Mazespin ONE MINUTE behind the next car ahead?! Not one minute behind the leader...but 60 seconds behind P18?! This is the interval BEFORE his 5 second time penalty for blocking Perez like an idiot.

No spins today and he drives like a senior citizen. What. A. Loser.

I do not agree with you if the car is not well balanced compared to the Mercedes. it quickly seems like a mistake. with the fastest lap track limits you don't have one point the other

i do not have to give credit at all they have had the fastest car by far for 8 years. and Max's mistakes are not as serious as Hamilton in Imola .. but then again he was lucky that he finished second otherwise he would not even have been at the top of the wdc

I can honestly say Lewis will never get driver of the day here or or on the major polls... Go figure.
Does he need it? No!
Ha, I made the mistake of saying I voted for Lewis last week. I think Hamilton/Merc fatigue is nearing terminal levels!

For the record, I am sick to death of watching Mercedes win everything and I'm certainly no Lewis fanboy, but sometimes you have to tip your cap.

As for this week, I really don't know who I'd give it to. Yes, Lewis is in the fastest car, but he did make the moves he needed and did it at the the sharp end of the grid. Is that more or less impressive than someone starting far back in the field and passing a bunch of inferior machinery throughout the race? People are very willing to vote for the latter, but less willing to vote for the former, it seems.

I do like reviewing the Autosport driver ratings. They seem to be relatively objective.

Driver of the Day polls are fun and, indeed, I come straight to RD after every race to vote but, let's be honest, they are a popularity contest in just about the purest sense (outside of a literal popularity contest).

For example, I like watching Lando and think he's a great up and coming talent, but his vote will, for the foreseeable future, always be inflated in the RD poll. Everything he does is golden in the eyes of the meme kidz.

No worries, your mind is set.
Keep the credit.
Doesn't change the points..

With a slight delay watched the race. Solid outcome.

Can we agree on following ;) At least I can try -->

Both Lewis and Max made their (little) mistakes during the race. Sleepy Lewis after the restart and Mr 'going too wide' Max. The two drivers who made real mistakes are Kimi and Mazepin.

Solid victory of Lewis and well deserved. Max tried and tried but his car was just not fast enough coming on the last long corner going towards the long straight. Mid field race was ok. Expected more from the Ferrari's.

Fun Fact to the relevance of Driver of the Day: Mazepin actually won it, but F1 delayed it and pulled that vote. Meanwhile Lewis passes both Max and Valterri and holds the lead, but doesn't beat slowpoke Mazespin and Perez who was half a minute behind his teammate for DOTD?

Driver of the day don't mean s̵̨̗̜̯̲̤̞̦͈̯̫͚̉̊̒̐̋̑̈́͐̚͝͝*̷̟̄̅̄*̷̧̫͓̔̆͐̏̏̿͗̑̕͠͝*̵̜͔̝̖͍̼̑̔͗̍͜ :roflmao:

@BrainsBush - I don't think Hamilton made any mistake. Verstappen simply had the better restart. Hamilton is not necessarily the best at everything ;) even if he was clearly the best during the whole race.

The thing is: Botas's mercedes was as fast as max in race conditions in bahrain and portimao, in imola hamilton was on pole and then when it started to get dry was half a second faster than any rbr, yesterday mercedes dominated the all the qualy sessions and sent both rbr to the shadow realm, hamilton did a 17.9 with mediums in q2 that's still 3 tenths faster than any other laptime made by any rbr on all weekend, and rbr had a lot of upgrades and mercedes none. But, hey, rbr has the fastest car because it has been the narrative since pre-season.

I'm going to say what I have been suspecting since pre-season: mercedes last year switched development quite early to this year's car in order to put all their engineering department working on the 2022 car since January 1st. They have so much advantage over rbr that they are sandbagging to trap rbr into believe that they are in a title fight.

And because of that illusion rbr are going to be wasting engineering hours working in a car that won't win the wdc nor the engineering would translate to next year's car. So rbr will loose this year's title and will start the next regulations era with an undeveloped car. And as byproduct mercedes can act as the underdogs and make believe to the fans that they are winning impossible races with an inferior car.

In bahrain in each and every time that max was in drs range of hamilton in the second drs zone not only he didn't catch up to him, he even loosed gap in the straight, despite of having a drs open and a slipstream. Each and every time.

In portimao each and every time he was 0.6s behind bottas at the start of the main straight he was unable to close the gap, but even in the first restart of the race max had to get back to hamilton slipstream because he was running out of momentum, such is the way the mercedes pulled on the straight, and perez was a sitting duck on the straight, it took a little less than half of the main straight for hamilton pass him and return to the racing line.

Their car even without updates keeps getting faster and faster every time that rbr gets faster via updates, mercedes is clearly sandbagging to **** up rbr in the new regulations era.

Mercedes is the best car, and rbr isn't even close. They will engineer some **** up weekends as they do every year to gift a handful of wins to other teams in order to not trigger discussions about rule changes. This week even Paddy Lowe admited himself that when he was in the team they sandbagged to avoid a rule change.

I still remember the rbr being 16km/k slower at every straight back in the days in where Paddy says they where running with a engine mode so low as they could, I also remember how in bahrain hamilton and rosberg dissobeyed team orders and started using superior power modes and in 16 laps they pulled almost half a minute over everyone else.

I still think the car makes the difference
.. so long as drivers minimize mistakes.
Given how close they are in conditions where cars can follow within 1 second for laps without overheating, RB may run away at tracks where Mercs overloading tires works against them.

Today I dreamed of Raikkonen 1st place and Mick Schumacher 2nd, I woke up before finding out who was 3rd

Lando overtakes Checo, coming with 4 wheels over tracklimits, where are you FIA with your rules, STUPID:devilish:

I think coz he was trying really hard to avoid spinning for once... :roflmao:

Its a shame they let this current formula run for 8 years now. and let the records seemingly be beaten easily, correct me if im wrong, this is the longest running formula period ever, i dont think even the Maserati 250F lasted this long.
