10 Interesting Images from Almost 15 Years of "Show Us Your Rig”

Almost 15 years after its first post, our “Show us your Rig” thread has given us countless incredible images and stories, and here are 10 such images.

In January of 2007, one of the founding RaceDepartment members and front-wheel drive alien Attila Domján started a forum thread asking fellow members to share pictures of their sim rigs. Nearly 5,000 replies later, we’ve received some amazing pictures and fascinating stories. Here are 10 images from the thread that we think you’ll like.

The orginal forum thread is still very active, so be sure to head over to the huge “Show us your Rig / Cockpit” thread and browse what other RD members are using and make sure to share a picture of your own gear.

Rig Number Two

Here’s an image that nicely sums up the period when this thread was started. FOG-Racecarmike shows us his desk mounted G25, along with a square monitor browsing an interesting blog. Notice the cordless phone and fax machine flanking the rig too!

Rig Number Three

Fast forward two years, and sim racing technology has made a huge leap forward. Triple screens in 2010 were still cumbersome to implement, but RD member Robin Cook nailed it here. Plus, a fourth screen for telemetry. Wow.

Rig Number Four

In August of 2011, bob808 showed us this cool setup, based on an arcade machine format. The electronics beneath the surface were all modern for the era, but the vintage arcade format was great looking and very functional.

Rig Number Five

Early in 2012, RD member glight showed us a setup that most of us would still be jealous of to this day. Those are triple 40” screens complemented by early Fanatec gear and a 5.1 surround sound system.

Rig Number Six

Here’s proof that you don’t need to spend a lot of money to have a clean, comfortable and functional setup. sinistro claimed a Nissan Micra seat, then spent €30 on construction materials to mount his timeless Logitech gear, and these are the results.

Rig Number Seven

Gladi8or posted this very clean setup in 2015. This rig incorporates everything most of us want in a rig in a simple and understated manner that make it timeless.

Rig Number Eight

Talk about immersion! adolfonc made all of RaceDepartment jealous in January of 2016 with this outstanding setup.

Rig Number Nine

This is a very modern, very clean rig used by Nicoboks and shared here last year. The black aluminum, ultrawide screen, Sparco seat and even a place to store a beer is the epitome of an enviable sim racing setup in this era.

Rig Number Ten

And lastly, this the typical setup of the person 3 seconds faster than you in a league. This is Frk-kiko-69's basic setup. Time and time again we see how little the cost and complexity of sim racing gear matters on track. But we can all admit that big setups are very cool to look at.

Some great photos! Reminds me of when I first started riding motorcycles, I turned up at a biker cafe on my tiny Honda CM125c. Surrounded by folks riding really impressive machinery, I felt a little embarrassed until a guy next me pointed at my bike and said "You're still one of us". It doesn't matter what rig you have, you're one of us.

I am still just attaching my old g25 to my desk when I want to race. I'm surprised it still runs ok after all these years. It tends to smell with a lot of use.

They are not the greatest in terms of realism or sheer power, but those older Logitech wheels could last forever. I used a DFGT for almost ten years I think? And I had already bought it second hand. Regular maintenance and regreasing helped a lot I guess.

I think people should not post their normal rigs in this thread now, this is what that legendary one is for ;)

..but please keep posting oddballs :roflmao:
