rF2 - Brands Hatch - Williams F1 1988 - 110% AI race

JO Simracing
Having real fun at Brands Hatch with the Williams F1 1988. 4 races in a row. First one (00:06) at 100% AI. From race 2 AI was at 110% (10:15). Race 3 (19:24). And finally Race 4, possibly the most exciting one, (28:25).

Nice driving man! Im struggling downshifting these 88 beasts. Im used to Assetto Corsa physics, and its so much more permissive in this aspect. But RF2 feels much more "organic" i think, im really enjoying this sim.

Thanks JBaeumle. rF2 is a top sim in many ways although it's been lacking the level of refinement other sims have for a long time. Studio 397 is slowly but steadily putting this right. The downshifting is brutal in this mod. I have to play a lot with the clutch, more as a differential than anything, to avoid the brutal reactions from the rear axis. Not sure if they used or not the clutch in this way, or just waited a little bit more before downshifting (probably) in those days...

Quality driving and video. This mod has really severe engine braking or something going on for the downshifts to be so hard. 3rd to 2nd is often brutal and locks the rear end. IRL there are vids of Senna (in this 80s period) going from 6th to 2nd and even 1st in one shift, so it should be fine to do it ingame.

I managed a drivetrain setup that makes it way easier, but still a bit tricky. I also found that the Ferrari suffers less from this problem, im running a carrer with it right now :)

I've been pushing for the rF2 Historic night on thursdays to use this mod, or the 1979 mod for a classic open wheeler. I think the 88 mod might be a bit too troublesome for most people to drive, though.

You are right to highlight the severe issues the mod suffer with the drivetrain particularly on the downshifting to 2nd. This has forced me to use much more the clutch (not sure if that's realistic or not) instead of usual left-foot braking when driving this mod. It would be great to see your setup JBaeumle.

The other thing is to, as well, only downshift late, when the car is ready for it... Having an rF2 Historic night with this mod would be great. I'd try to join but my schedules are often quite difficult... Thanks for watching as always.
