Maybe only for AC app developers!
This is a ContentManager preview-preset. It does not touch the original main preview picture. It generates a small, transparent "preview_mini.png", 228x165 pixels, from the side, in every skins folder, like this:

Culprit
----------
Nothing is automatic, you have to both 1.) use this "cmpreset" and 2.) also implement use of generated preview from
cars\yourcar\skins\_skinname_\preview_mini.png
228x165 pixels
in your app. Again, for example usage follow the SubStanding link above.
Install
----------
Two files are inside the download-archive:
1. link.txt
2. preview_mini_PNG.cmpreset
--whether you--
1. Open the text file and copy/paste the link inside into your browsers address bar, that does that automatically (if you have enabled ContentManager's integration).
--or you--
2. Unpack the ...cmpreset file to
(note: if you dont know "AppData" folder, just paste the path above into WindowsExplorer Location bar and you should get there)
Usage
---------
After that you can find the preset here. Click on that new preset ...mini-preview generated for current car...it will be used later again...
On the left you can select multiple cars at once by holding CTRL and/or SHIFT, like in other windows programs - and then use these new controls that appear at the bottom.
Select "Look -> Update previews"
Then click ">Update: x cars"
It will remember that last used preview-preset
note: on random occasions i noticed that CM also generates this mini-preview if you select another "normal" preview, maybe because of "preview" in output name, but i did not investigate
note2: unfortunately you can't see the result somewhere in CM after generation is finished, you need to go to the skin folders to check...
