Hi everyone,
WHAT IS IT?
This is my rF2 Virtual Driver Builder.
It's a spreadsheet that will (hopefully) help you in creating your own Virtual Drivers, or customisable AI Grid and export them into rF2 for use in game.
WHY?
If you're new to rF2 you may have noticed that you don't get that many drivers to race against, nor do you have much control of who you race against.
This aims to address those issues by using a feature already in-game to create a bunch of Virtual Drivers. You can then assign a skin, define real life names, talents etc.
This is a feature that should be in the game by default, but as it's not, I'm trying here to address that.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
There's a blow-by-blow description in the User Guide attached in the ZIP file, but essentially:
- you create a virtual driver in rF2 for each skin of car you want to race against
- save these virtual drivers to a folder
- import these skins into the spreadsheet
- fill out the stats for your drivers and assign a skin from the previous steps
- export the data and copy it to a folder in rF2
CONTENTS
- the spreadsheet
- user guide
- a little script to automate some file renaming
PREREQUISITES:
- Office 365 - Excel
(I have no idea if it works in any other version of Excel, I suspect it probably won't as Microsoft have a habit of changing in the inner workings of Excel quite a lot - but try it out see what happens
SIMHUB OVERLAYS COMPATIBABILITY!
VERSION HISTORY
Version 1.0
Initial release
Version 1.1
- Added new worksheet 'Grid Organiser' which aims to help you organise a grid in order of 'skill', as in faster drivers at the top, slower drivers at the bottom. It uses a concept of Tiers to organise groups of drivers into 'packs'. Then will assign a value between a user defined range so that you don't have to think too much about what values to use for each driver.
- New theme for buttons
- Preview of car skin in 'Resources' worksheet by clicking on the VEH of the car
- Modified order of columns in 'AI Grid' for better grouping, so be careful if upgrading from a Version 1.0 worksheet to this worksheet!
- Updated User Guide
Version 1.2
- Modified User Guide only (added Front Page, Table of Contents, and Appendix B - Tips n' Tricks for new rF2 players).
- No changes to spreadsheet.
Version 1.3
- Modified 'Ai Grid' Driver Nationality to be easier to use
- Improved performance in 'AI Grid' processing for better user experience
- Little formatting bugs corrected
- Updated User Guide with minor corrections, and new Appendix C
Version 1.3.1
- Bug Fix!
Clicking the 'Export AI Drivers' button was generating an VBA Error 400, now fixed. Many apologies to those affected.
DONATIONS?
If you find it useful then please consider a donation so that I can buy more rF2 related DLC....or beer...yeah probably more beer.
ISSUES...?
I've been using something like this for a while and thought it would be a good idea to launch it into the community for public scrutiny and condescension.
It works for me, but as yet, no other poor soul has tried it, and, as I have no other Sim Racing friends, I thought it would be a brilliant idea to put it on Race Department so the whole world can try it.
If you have any issues then message me in the comments and I'll try to get back to you.
Beware I have a full time job, a wife and 2 kids - I may not be swift
Much love
