Nissan GTR GT3 (#1 Winfield Team Nissan - 1992 Tooheys 1000) 1.0

Ah, Australia. Home to a pretty interesting racing scene, specially when it comes to touring car racing. They say the first race was held when te second car was build, and sure down-under was no exception.
Ford vs. Holden rivalry has attracted many fans since the '60s, and onto recent years with both car makers being almost the only ones present on the V8 Supercars championship for the last 27 years.
But before the V8 only championship, Australia was the first country to race Group C cars, as soon as 1973, but of course not the Le Mans prototypes that we all so much know and love. Those first Group C cars were higly modified touring cars. The series even gave us the widebody BMW 635 sponsored by John Player Special.
Group C gave way to a more FIA-ish approach with the introduction of Group A racing in 1985. This welcomed even more foreigner makers, like Mitsubishi with the Starion, Toyota and a wide range of Corolla models, Volvo's 240 Turbo, BMW with both the 635 and later on the M3... I'm sure you know where I'm trying to get.
But Group A, while giving the fans all around the world the possibility to drive home something very close to what they have just seen on a race track or rally stage, had its downsides, specially to Australian automakers. Ford and Holden entered the competition, but their cars, which during the Group C era had relied on body and aerodinamic modifications over the road cars allowed by the rules, showed its design flaws when running under Group A regulations, as these didn't allow for any kind of external mods.
The Mustangs were soon replaced by the European Sierras, and the VK Commodores, even despite having a purpose built homologation special, were replaced by the more developed VL Commodores, which was then replaced by the aerodinamically interesting VL Commodore SV.
But there was one more maker still waiting its moment to introduce itself to the racing. Nissan and its turbocharged Skyline R30 and 31, prepared by Gibson Motorsport, put the Sierras onto trouble, and they sure gave them a run for their money. This leads us to the BNR32 Skyline Gr. A. I won't extend much writting about it, as I'm sure everyone knows its story.

Fast forward to the 1992 Tooheys 1000, held on te Mout Panorama Circuit. The last time Group A cars would go around Bathurst in all their racing glory before giving way to the V8 Supercars. Nissan was on a dominant fashion, having won the 1991 event, but the Skylines were met with a weight ballast and a pop-off valve to reduce its speed. It worked, and the Winfield Racing Skyline couldn't pass third place, behind the Shell Ultra Sierra RS500 and and Bob Jane VL Commodore SV, and just 4 tenths faster than Glenn Seton's EB Falcon V8 Supercars (as the V8s were allowed to race in preparation for the 1993 season).

On the race itself, the #1 Nissan managed to move to first place, which would retaing, depending on who you ask, untill the end of the race. And that is, because the race was called off when, while teams were still running on slick tires, heavy rain poured all over the race track, rendering cars undrivable, even the AWD Skylines. The leading Nissan, the #1 Winfield Racing, driven by
Mark Skaife and Jim Richards, broke the left front suspension after going off track, but could continue, until it gently parked between a group of other parked cars on the start of Conrod Straight. While on there, the Shell Ultra Sierra passed the Nissan... but red flag rule meant that the last lap which would be taken into account was the last completed lap right before the red was dropped, giving the Nissan team the win.

This made the Ford fans very upset, and when the winning team came to the podium they gave all but a warm welcome. Jim Richards, driver of the Skyline, had just found out about the passing of his friend Denny Hulme, and the mix of feeling gave us a surprising quote, maybe one of the most memorable quotes ever heard on a podium, when he called off the booing fans "a pack of ars****", to which he later apologised.

And after all this unnecessary writing, lets head onto the livery I bring you today.

Based off the 1992 Tooheys 1000 race winner, the #1 Winfield Racing Nissan Skyline GT-R R32, driven by Mark Skaife and Jim Richards, I decided it would be interesting how the old R32 livery would fit the R35 GT3 (and it may not be the only R32 livery to receive this treatment, let's be honest).

Maybe it doesn't fit the car as well as I expected, but I'm pretty confident of the final result. Nevertheless I had to take some licences in order to make it "work":
-The Winfield Racing logo on the bonnet was moved to the back, right behind the dorsal.
-Due to the doors being larger than the ones of the R32, and not having much space right behind then as the fuel intakes are there, I decided that to move the Winfield Racing logos further front, placing the side dorsals and Tooheys 1000 stickers on the doors rahter than in the rear fenders.
-Placed the drivers' names and country flags on the front fenders instead of the side windows, due to lack of space and not being able to directly modify them.

Despite this, I've came to enjoy the livery, and I hope you do aswell, I really think it captures the real car's essence.
