Ford Escort BDH (aka. 1300BDA)
Introduced in January 1968, Ford's original Escort was the latest of a line of small family cars, specifically engineered to be simple, cheap to buy and economical to run. Like previous small Fords, the Escorts had front-mounted engines, driving the rear wheels, and had independent front suspension, and a beam rear axle suspended on leaf springs. The Escort, though, was the first small Ford to use the robust little 'cross-flow' 'Kent' engine, which proved to be remarkably tuneable for use in races and rallies. Escorts of this type were in production until the end of 1974, with a total of more than one million being produced in the UK alone at the Halewood factory, near Liverpool. Tens of thousands were of the GT derivative.
As the new group 2 regulations in 1970 were much more relaxed than the old ones, Ford got opportunity to develop also smaller versions of BDA. Many different displacement versions were born, smallest being 1300cc BDH. This engine was built for just one single mission; get the 1300cc class crown from Alfa-Romeo who had won the class since 1969 after BMC pulled the factory support from Cooper Cars Ltd after 1968. The engine had very short stroke enabling it to run very high rpm. Result was astonishing 10500 redline with ~190 hp at bit over 10000 rpm. engine has relatively long pulling range, starting from 5000 rpm, but it does not come without cost; below 3000 rpm, there's so little torque that engine is unable to keep itself running. In game version has idle adjusted to 3000 rpm, which makes the car a bit easier to drive as there's no fear of stalling the engine without throttle. Gearbox was specially built 5 speed unit with two different first gear ratios and even the longer one was 2.80:1.
This mod is ment to be raced in GTC-TC-76 class and it's wayyy faster than anything in TC-65. Soon, if not already, there's released (G)TC-76 version of Alfa GTA and Simca Rallye 1296cc and Mini 1275GT will soon join the group, so there will be plenty cars to race against.
The mod is linked to GTC-TC-76 class and the 914. It also includes new class flag: TC-76 which is for those who like to build new classes.
