Ferrari 288 GTO

Ferrari 288 GTO Version 1.2.6

Log in to download, or make sure to confirm your account via email

The F40, F50, Enzo, and LaFerrari. All the flagship supercars that serve as bedroom posters every generation, they all trace their roots back to this. The Ferrari 288 GTO was originally designed to participate in the group B class road rally competitions, but never got the chance. Perhaps this might provide a taste of what could have been.

Shoutout to RoccoStigson for the clip!

Installation:
Extract the ferrari_288gto folder from the rar file into your cars folder (in your steam installation at: Steam\SteamApps\common\assettocorsa\content\cars)

Skin template usage:
I've included the exterior skin template as a GIMP source file. The layers should all be there, the UV layout, the Ambient Occlusion to bake, and a hopefully easy to use default metal parts layer if your skin is only supposed to change the bodywork colour. Just hide the UV and specular map layers, adjust the color layer to whatever you want (while maintaining it's alpha value to allow metal_detail flakes to shine through) and export visible layers.
I deliberately made the skin template a large 4K texture to allow skinners to scale it down if they didn't need it to be that big, but have the best source data available to them. Unless every skinner out there unites and tells me there's a massive flaw in them, the UV layout is going to stay like this. (note that it has ever so slightly changed from beta 1.01, having now exactly centered the parts around the middle)

Todo list/known issues:
* Custom sounds. We don't have a sound engineer, so this position is very much available. It's not that I don't want custom sounds, it's that I can't conjure them out of thin air and so I'm forced to use the Kunos F40 sounds until someone creates custom ones.

Version history:
- Version 1.2.5
* fixed readme to credit schUPpor for his Martini livery
* fixed power curve in UI to reflect the one used in-game for both stages
* added shift light to Group B stage
* beefed up the Group B exhaust flames

- Version 1.2
* Updated tyre model, doesn't feel much different but it's a little less grippy, especially for street90s.
* Altered group B default setup to have more negative camber and toe in rather than toe out in the front. It didn't make a lot of sense to use the 'safe' factory settings for this version.
* Fixed missing Ambient Occlusion on Group B rossocorsa skin.
* Fixed skin template for group B not applying Ambient Occlusion properly due to an alpha channel being present on the layer.
* Added schUPpor's Pioneer livery double pack and Martini skin.
* Included Rolf's alitalia skin update.
* Updated skin previews to match kunos style better.

- Version 1.1
* Fixed left front popup light brightness, improved headlights (thanks ivy_090!) and fixed tail and brake lights.
* Fixed Group B stage turbo, you won't constantly damage it anymore.
* Added gear lever animations to match Sover's gear change driver animations.
* Added Rolf Kazamba's Group B Alitalia livery

- Version 1.0 (what's in a number right?)
* Physics updated to AC 1.3 (old tyres still tho)
* New Group B upgrade available, trying to represent a GTO when fitted for rallying. Turbo pushed beyond stock limits, better brakes, slick tyres, adjustable final gear ratio, increased ride height, suspension changes and additional setup options. Group B stage has a model to match, featuring extra wide rear fenders to house the much wider tyres and a race interior.
* Removed slick tyres from stock version, they were meant for Stage upgrades and got left in by mistake.
* Right side tyre thread now points the right way.
* Front lower air intakes reduced in height to match the real thing
* Performance updates for road model, now includes COCKPIT_LR and LOD_B, also fixed missing compression on LOD_A.
* Reupholstered the interior, dashboard and all the fabric bits look much better now with ambient occlusion and red fabric in the seats.
* Plugged the hole inside the steering wheel housing for those who prefer playing without the wheel showing and could see through the mesh.
* Updated skin template with missing popup lights ambient occlusion
* Updated driver animations (Thanks to Sovers again)

- beta 2.1
* Driver is no longer telekinetic and will lend a hand while steering
* Tyres now show actual thread on them for that extra placebo grip
* Shader/texture improvements all around the car
* Adjusted size of headlights and color/intensity of tail lights.
* Interior dial plates darkened a bit, but they now light up when lights are on.
* Added 2 colors (Bianco Avus and Nero) and single color skins are now very easy to add.
* Added the popup headlights

- beta 2.0
* physics redone from scratch
* Ambient Occlusion baked into the exterior texture for the bodywork and rims
* New lights with more detail to them
* Centered exterior UVs around the middle of the layout, shifting the template very slightly.

- beta 1.01 -
* fixed capitalization of file to fix sounds

- beta 1.0 -
* first public release

Someone needs to update this to AC v1.16. No engine or tires sound
Nice mod, looks a lot like Kunos made cars.
What happened to the steering on this once amazing mod? The steering has absolutely no weight to it anymore! Why the drastic change? This was a 5 star mod before.
G
GTOfire
Nothing about that has changed from the mod's side of things whatsoever actually. I always put every last thing I change into the changelogs, and steering weight/FFB values have been the same since the first re-release with Felipe's physics. Not sure what might be going on if you say it suddenly feels very different. Which was the last update that felt like before?
Quality mod. THANKS. Only one thing wrong. wheels width is wrong. At least rear ones. Take a look to this pic:

greetings
Excellent Work, Thanks for sharing and improving it!!!
This needs to become official content in Assetto Corsa.
Personally I'm ok with the engine sound, but how about asking some help to "Fonsecker"?
G
GTOfire
He's doing the Evoluzione sounds actually :) Perhaps I can convince him to do these as well, but he's a highly desired guy among modders so there are no guarantees.

As for official content, I appreciate the thought, but I don't think the model is up to spec for that. :p
So many updates GTO! Do you even rest?
I like it. Well done overall. Would need some slight detail added to physics and sounds to make it great though, imo. I do think it's one of the best mods out there yet though, dont get me wrong.
Animation of gear shifts places the drivers hand not aligned to the stick.
Thank you,
Love it particularly the group B version
Thanks for the fantastic update !
Magnifico!!!!
Outstanding, thank you!!!!
Great mod, solid update to it, when is the 1200hp version coming out? :P I feel like this would be fun to make a stupidly high power version of, but I don't know how to actually do that and make it drivable.
G
GTOfire
There is no 1200hp version. There is the 650hp version though (the Evoluzione), and it is in fact out right now: http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/ferrari-288-gto-evoluzione.8249/ Enjoy :)
Tried only the standard version and it's a awesome quality mod! Tomorrow it's groupB turn. Did try it at the Ring and a few hillclimbs. It felt so good. The physics, imo are top quality. I can't see this being much improved! As a Ferrari lover it's great to drive these mid age cars and not only pad-shifting Ferraris :) one day, after this project is finished, would you consider the Ferrari 348 TB? :)
G
GTOfire
While I'm currently working on the GTO Evoluzione despite having said I'd not make any mor cars, I still intend to not make any more cars after that one's all done. The amount of work involved is just too insane, and not being part of a multi-disciplinary team means I am far too dependent on hoping for people to want to help me in areas I don't have any skill in.

I appreciate the kind words nonetheless :)
One of the best mods ever! congrats!!
Awesome job , fantastic mod .......thanks mate !
Thanks! Almost perfect.
Awesome work, this car is legendary. Thanks!
D
Thank you, much appreciated...one of my favorite cars of all time. Fantastic mod.

Great review man, thanks for the extensive feedback. I too hope we get a sound guy on board for that final touch. :) And LODs but I'm procrastinating heavily on that atm :/
