By the 1980s, the crazy banked curve at AVUS was flattened and the infamously long straights were being shortened. But there was still lots of great motorsport happening at AVUS – involving wonderful machines from Group A-era DTM touring cars, Formula Three, and Porsche Cup!
Very little footage of this track in this era has survived on YouTube, but here's a 1990 German Formula Three race at this version of AVUS featuring a young Michael Schumacher!
This mod by jpalesi from 2009 brings you the late 1980s and early 1990s layout of AVUS. This was released as a beta, and originally included the longer 8 km 1988 version, but the download I found for this mod only contained the shorter 4 km 1989-1991 layout.

If you're looking for a rF1 car mod to drive on this track, I highly recommend driving Touring Car Legends – specifically, TCL Revival DTM 1989 or 1990 cars! A perfect pairing.
Note that this mod is considerably more accurate than the better-known 1993 AVUS mod (by f1edition, Zwiss, and haunetal1990) that began life in NR2003 and was converted to several isiMotor sims and to Assetto Corsa. The jpalesi mod has a more accurate Nordkurve, cones, barriers, corner markers... Although I should mention that in my opinion, this version still has some inaccuracies: the chicanes should likely be moved a little farther from the freeway exit, and there should be barriers after the chicane.
