Wheel rotation settings

Discussion in 'Formula Truck 2013' started by Rhys Gardiner, Mar 17, 2013.

  1. Does someone have data for the real life steering ratio/degrees of steering rotation on a Formula Truck vehicle?
  2. Just made a quick google search, and yeah, not much info !

We don't know exactly either, but there isn't a whole lot of lock, we heard ~540 but I don't know the source. I use that with about 14 degs in the car setup, it did result in seemingly similar steering lock as you can see here
(link to real video is in the description there).

You can sometimes have to apply some 180degrees steering into tighter corners.

I find it really weird if I drive them with 'race car steering ratio', becomes twitchy and nervous (and less realistic too) :)

540 with 18-19 i tried it seemed more domestic to handle but still more then a handfull for newb me.
  5. Yeah, usually modern race cars go for 540 - 17 to 22 lock...

  8. Hmm i drive with 900 degrees of rotation, and full lock amount in game, is that perhapse too much "truck"?
  9. I think 900 degrees rotation is the best realistic setting for open wheeler -
Formula One - Two, Indycar, Champcar.and GT Series

For sluggish heavy truck with this horsepower and torque better reduce y settings.
  10. The rotation is not the important bit, the ratio is. (rotation/lock/2)

GT and Touring Cars: 12.5:1 to 15:1 ratio (usually around 540 rotation)
Open Wheelers: 10:1 to 15:1 ratio (usually between 360 and 540 rotation)

    Ex: Steering Lock = Rotation/Ratio/2 = 540/15:1/2 = 18

Race cars vary a lot depending on driver preference and track layout, but that is the general values they mostly use.

540 rotation / 22-23 steerlock for me in all ISI based games.
