The GT5 Prologue Hot Lap Challenge

Gentlemen start your engines! The format is simple, each week a car and track will be chosen to run hot laps. Starting Saturday 12pm GMT and finishing the following Saturday 12pm GMT you will be invited to submit your lap times for that challenge. Once the challenge deadline is met the slowest placed driver gets to pick the car and track for the following week (this is usually me!)

Taking part is simple, fire up GT5 Prologue and select the car for the challenge, click on 'Arcade' in the menu then choose the track and then select 'Time Trial' from the menu and then select the settings shown below:

    Transmission - Manual
    Active Steering - Off
    Driving Physics - Professional
Active Stability Management (ASM) - Off
    Traction Control - Off
    Driving Line - Off
    Front Tyres - Sports S2
    Rear Tyres - Sports S2

Once you've selected that you can then start hot lapping, look at the online leaderboards or load a ghost lap. There are no tuning options so everyone runs the same setup.

To make it fair and competitive please don't cut the track or abuse the run off area's to gain an advantage, at least half the car should be on the track at all times and on street tracks don't use the barriers to give you an unfair advantage, the idea of the hot lap challenges is to run clean laps in the fastest time possible.

Good luck and above all have fun!

  3. I'll post the first challenge tommorow so you will have time to earn some credits to buy the required car for the challenge though to ensure we can include as many people as possible I have a relatively cheap car in mind coming in at under 60,000 credits.

  4. I have bought the GT Tuned Ford GT, but it is surprisingly crap. That's 200,000 down the drain. I'd love to do this, but can't use a wheel downstairs :(

  5. Sell it Mark, you can buy a handful of Mitsubishi's for challenge 1 and have a lot more fun :)

This weeks challenge is in the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X GSR '07 at Fuji Speedway F. A 2.84 mile circuit with 16 corners and a long straight almost a mile in length. Please post your times in this thread with your forum username and PSN ID.

  6. I only get like 50,000 for selling it. What a rip-off. Anyway, I'll get the EvoX so :)

I'll find a way to play the PS3 with the wheel, don't worry man :)

  7. I'm well off the world record which is 1'54.209 compared to my current best of 1'57.624 which places me a lowly 194th in the world for that car and track.

  8. Not bad, that's out of a good few thousand :)

And frankly, with the console racers anyway, there's always an exploit that someone finds.

Edit: I believe I can get a HDMI - DVI adapter so I can use the G25 effectively :D

  9. The good thing with GT5P is that it is quite strict at voiding your lap if you try to use too much of the track and run off area's to gain an advantage. The other good thing is that the top 10 drivers all have ghost replays you can download and watch and see where they are making the time. I know I can squeeze a few more tenths somewhere and think poor lines through the last few corners is whats causing me trouble.

  10. had a 1.56.084 as far as i remember
my nick is rafnixx over there and i'ld like to thank you Kevin, putting something like this together as the online races are a big disappointment so far with its unrealistic slipstream boost

  11. You are most welcome, hopefully the full version of GT5 will allow us to run private races.

  12. I've managed to shave a few tenths off my best but still only down to 1'57.1xx. I downloaded a replay from two of the top 10 drivers, hats off to the 1st place guy his lap looks quite clean but there was one abusing the run off area's quite a lot. I didn't put any real rules in my original post but I'll amend them for next weeks challenge so that you must not allow more than half the car off the track at any given time and lap times are only eligible for laps run during the week of the challenge.

  13. Great idea, got me to fire up prologue for the first time in a long time. 1:57.676, I'll try and widdle that that down a bit before the deadline. Addy711 on PSN.

  14. I know what I need to get to hook up the PS3 to a PC monitor. Should have the adapter by tomorrow (hopefully :().

  15. A little over 12 hours of this weeks challenge left. I will endeavour to post the results from work tommorow so post your times here if you have improved. Remember the driver with the slowest lap picks the car and track for next week.

  16. 1'56.011
    PSN Addy711

Wish the replay system was better but as far as I could tell I kept two wheels on the black stuff. Maybe I don't know how to work the replay cameras but all I can find is the bumper cam, and the variable angle TV style cam.

Anyways looking forward to the next one!

  17. Bugger, havn't been able to get the required adapters. Soz mate. Next time! :D

  18. Congratulations to Adam who wins the first challenge with a very competitive time, its fun to see people's times improve as the week draws on. As last place larry its my dubious honour to pick the next car and track for the challenge so...

Challenge 2 will be a hustle around the streets of London in its forward configuration. The car will be the Aston Martin DB9 Coupe '06. I'll amend the rules on the first post of this thread, use of the barriers to gain an advantage is not allowed, on a street course barrier rubbing is akin to cutting the track.

  19. Congrats, Adam :)

  20. Glad to see there will be some kind of interest in GT5 on this forum. Been a fan of GT since the first one. Now I'm adding PC sims to my interests. I'll put down some times here soon.
