Summer attractions at the RaceDepartment iRacing club

The RaceDepartment Star Mazda series has just passed its half-way point and it’s shaping up for a thrilling final four races. The Star Mazda has been our first official open wheel series and has been a very popular series for RD’s iRacing club members. Now we look to the summer and a series of club events that will also mark a number of ‘firsts’ for RaceDepartment’s iRacing club. To start it all off in May we do our first night race using a ‘mini endurance’ format at Sebring in the Riley MkXX Daytona Prototype.

Our racing club members will have to tame the Sebring International Raceway in the Riley MkXX Daytona Prototype over a 1.2 hour long race at night. Sebring is steeped in history and started life as a US Army Air Forces training base before being used to run sports car endurance races, most notably the ’12 Hours of Sebring’ which runs every year in March. The Riley MkXX Daytona Prototype boasts a Pontiac V8 engine pumping out 500 horsepower but provides a very stable platform to race in and has proved to be a popular choice for iRacers since its introduction into the service. This combination is a good test for any driver but now with night racing available in iRacing it adds a new dimension to this event.

May is going to be a busy month for iRacing fans at RaceDepartment. One of the most famous races known the world over takes place at the end of May – the Indy 500. Our iRacing club members will celebrate this historic event by running our own 500 mile race.

On May 22nd, a week before the real event we will be racing in the Dallara Indycar at the historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Since the turn of the century ‘The Brickyard’ has thrilled fans and drivers alike with its high speed races. Everyone wants to race at Indianapolis and it’s been host to Indycar, NASCAR, F1, Moto GP and other high profile racing series. This event also provides another ‘first’ for our iRacing racing club members - it will be the first time we’ve rolled out the Dallara Indycar for an event.

Our Star Mazda Series ends in June but the fun doesn’t stop there! In June we’ll be re-visiting Road Atlanta but this time in the Ford Mustang FR500S.

Road Atlanta has been a popular choice for iRacing events at RaceDepartment. We ran one round of the MX-5 Championship there and we also visit Road Atlanta at the end of May for the 6th round of our Star Mazda Series. The 325bhp V8 Mustang is a fan favourite at iRacing and is used in numerous series including mixed class races. This is just a taste of what we have planned for the coming months for the iRacing club at RaceDepartment. More events will be announced in due course including our first NASCAR event, a trip to Okayama International Circuit and more one-off F1 races so make sure you keep up to date with our iRacing forum here at RaceDepartment.com!
