Specializing in one car

It's kind of looking like AC will for the best part be a GT sim racer, as that class of car will have the most representation.

Do some of you guys try to specialise in one particular GT car? I'm thinking if I want to get good at GT races I should pick one of the GT cars and stick to it. I've been jumping from car to car so I don't have too many hours put into any one car.

It's kind of sad at the moment that only the GT3 cars seem to get the most attention. There are a massive amount of amazing cars in here, dare I say all of them if you put some time into them. Hopefully with time we will have more cults around specific cars for leagues and that sort.

I have been doing just what you said. Focusing on the MP4-12C GT3 and I Have learned a tremendous amount by doing just that. Once you start learning what the car can and can't do and how it reacts to your inputs and setup's you will become more consistent and faster overall.

We had a 30 lap race at Mugello last night and I only had one off! Was disappointed in myself for that but if I would have attempted that a month ago it would have been a disaster for me and I wouldn't been able to make it that long and be that consistent. I found fatigue started to get me in the closing laps but it was a blast and I finished 4th out of 11. Not to bad I would say.

I don't want to, but yes I am overspecialising in one car (the Z4 GT3).

The main reason behind this is that - at the moment - I am trying to learn how to set up a car properly and by focusing in a single car I am able to learn how it behaves and understand what it does and why.

But for racing casually I just change car as much as I can.

Lotus 49! I fell in love with that in GPL in 1998. There are other really good cars in AC too, but the Lotus 49 is special. After my license is granted, I'd like to see one-model races, and the 49 would be at the top of my wish list.

I'm up for it but that car is a beast to handle. Have to keep in mind that many people can barley drive it let alone race it :D.

My problem is I like to race too many of the cars, and in a number of different sims (AC, GSCE, R3E/DTM, pCARS, ...). This makes is harder to compete online with those specializing with certain cars - in AC that seems to be the GT cars. I don't need to win, but it isn't as much fun if you are not up on the setup/tricks/seat time.

Well, since AC is still in early access development phase, now it's time to try out all of available cars. Not just a couple of laps but a race or two and yet it seems that we're all picking our specials. Let's have 1M or KTM or Lotus Eleven or Exige/Evora events like we had Donnington events all previous week.
Or better still, let's have a week of surprise events, where u find what car is available only when you make a booking?
@Bram Hengeveld maybe??

That's why I think it's the best car for learning how to control a car as you approach, reach, and exceed the limit. The learning curve is steep, but once you get it, you can translate that to any other car.
That's a valid point but, some will get discouraged quickly and may be better to ease into more challenging cars more gradually. It depends on personal experience and determination. It would be interesting though.

As long as it has wheels ill race any car :)
o rly? :D

But yeah, I have a couple of cars that I seem to favour more than the others, but I get bored pretty quickly, so I need to change my ride often :p It's a shame, that AC only has so few cars, compared to... pCARS or even any arcadish games (GRID, Shift).

Except for the 2-Eleven.
Hate that thing with a passion.

Just find the rear end of it to be un-tameable.
Thats weird. I find it one of the easiest cars to control. Maybe its just down to personal driving style. I'm a newbie but watching vids on Youtube really showed my just how different we all drive. I use it for practicing a good few of the courses such as Vallelunga where the 49 would leave me eating armco.

Personally I end up driving the MP4-12C GT 3 about 70% of the time. I used to hate it but as soon as I mentally grasped it has a personality all its own I fell in love with it. Really helps having the F1 rim on my T500rs. I don't think I'd enjoy it half as much with a standard rim.

I think I'll pick one GT2 car and one GT3 car to try and specialise in. Focus mainly on the GT2 cars. The only trouble now is choosing which one. I like the idea of driving the MP4 but the BMW seems a bit easier to handle from what I remember.

The MP4 was a nightmare for me cornering until I started letting it glide in off the power into corners and applying throttle very linearly coming out. Any harsh throttle I find it throws the rattle out of the pram. YMMV.
