AC Roundup - December 2016.png

For the final time in 2016 we are pleased to present our Sim Racing Modding Roundup article for Assetto Corsa, where we have a look at some of the recent work from the modding community that brings you outstanding community created content for the simulation.

I would again like to take this opportunity to remind you that in no way do RaceDepartment endorse these mods or take any responsibility whatsoever for any issues caused by downloading these files. The idea behind the articles is rather simple, to help throw light on some of the wonderful community content created for our favourite racing simulators. If you feel we have missed out some "must have" content, or want to draw my attention to a project you are working on, please feel free to drop me a PM or leave a message in the comments section below….

Winner of the RaceDepartment Modder of the Year award just this morning, the Ferrari F2002 for Assetto Corsa is simply a fantastic piece of additional content for the sim. Originally released here at RaceDepartment back at the beginning of 2016, the team have tirelessly worked to continue development of the car and keep it relevant with the latest technology introduced into Assetto Corsa. Now with a latest update back on the 4th December, the F2002 benefits from the latest Kunos driver animations, improved sound effects and adjustments to the tyres, suspension and dampers. Already an outstanding car, the latest update has made it even better and once again compatible with the most recent Assetto Corsa build. A worthy winner of the RD Awards, and a must have download. Bravo.

We featured this car back at the start of December (article here) and the RSR Formula Three is easily one of the best mods available for Assetto Corsa today. With excellent attention to detail on both the 3D model and driving experience, the RSR Formula Three machine has taken yet another step up in quality following the December update. Originally launched in November 2015, December brought a substantial update to the car - adding the necessary sound adjustments to bring it in line with the latest AC build alongside a considerable number of visual improvements to the car. With several remodelled parts of the car making their debut in December alongside improved shaders and new objects such as seat belts and VR specific improvements. Simply outstanding.

Created to fill out the void left by only one 2013 spec Formula One car in Assetto Corsa, the Ferrari Opponents 2013 mod is an officially approved conversion of the F1 2013 rFactor 2 modification, with much work having gone in to bringing up these cars to Assetto Corsa visual standards. First released back in early October as both an offline single player and standardised league version of the carset, the mod has been updated a couple of times since and features a nice selection of the latest technology available from Kunos. With the latest version 10 tyres and sounds compatible to the most recent build, this mod is a very nice addition to the sim and presents a full season of Formula One to accompany the 2013 Ferrari officially licenced by Kunos.

Classic content in Assetto Corsa is often overlooked by players looking for a more contemporary experience, however often these cars and tracks from yesteryear provide some of the most intense racing experiences available in modern sim racing. ACFL have looked to capture the spirt of historic touring car style action with the release back in 2015 of the Renault R8 Gordini, having brought to the car a number of updates since that initial release. Last updated mid December, the R8 Gordini now features many of the latest AC delights such as V10 tyres and compatible sounds for the latest build of Assetto Corsa. A very enjoyable car and some much need classic content.

The latest and final version of Rouen Les Essarts has been released recently, and includes a wide range of updates and enhancements to one of the most aesthetically pleasing and enjoyable circuits currently available for the simulation. A very enjoyable drive, this circuit no longer exists in real life however the author has done and incredibly good job of recreating one of the most iconic circuits from early French motorsport. With three versions available, depending on driving preference, this is an outstanding recreation of one of the finest circuits in France lost to current generation racing drivers.

Another wonderful historic location brought to Assetto Corsa, this time we have a look at the legendary Hockenheim Grand Prix Circuit prior to the recent redesign that takes away much of the challenge that made this circuit unique in the early days. The 60's Hockenheim mod for AC brings with it the full track layout, including the long straights into the wooded section, and has been recreated beautifully for the title. With a release so close to Christmas back on the 20th December, the track is a wonderful inclusion to the sim and the perfect compliment for the pleather of period Grand Prix machines found in Assetto Corsa. Brilliant.

The Shanghai Tianma Circuit is a little known location based in China, and has been recreated in wonderful detail for Assetto Corsa and adds an excellently made track to the sim. With a very impressive attention to detail included in the mod and an enjoyable driving experience given by the circuit, this is one of the better track creations for Assetto Corsa and is a perfect location for the many touring cars and lower powered open wheel machines. Another excellent addition to the sim and well worth a download.
