Show us your Rig / Cockpit

finally got round to building my basic sim rig.. was planning on an 8020/milled aluminium one but priced at >$1500 was too much at the moment. came across some free 27mm thick ply pre painted black (2400*520) and the remnants of a pallet and came up with this. Just need to paint the top of the base to match the rest and it is pretty much done. need to make some speaker and mouse/keyboard mounts next.

It's all assembled with furniture screws, so no screws into bare wood. can be pulled apart easily and reassembled without damaging the wood. It's pretty sturdy, needs some brackets to reinforce the steering mount at the base, tomorrows job.

Everything is adjustable - tilt/reach of pedals, height/tilt/reach of wheel, and height/tilt/reach of seat

Can provide sketchup plans if anyone is interested, although very basic - I just did most of it by eye and crude measurements. My motto is measure once and hope for the best!

So, March last year after being without my SimRig for quite some time, I built a simple and cheap replacement. I also made a simple button box from an old usb gamepad and a display with my old HTC Desire HD.

One year on and this March for my Birthday, my Wife and kids bought me a new OMP seat to replace my 14 year old and rather worn Cobra one :).

Now I've started adding an MX5 MK1 Dashboard. I chose this as I happen to have a MK1 MX5 as my daily motor :).

I still need to get hold of the instrument pod, which I will mount my mobile phone display into!!

I will also eventually build the button box into the dashboards tombstone!!

I've also got my G25 shifter that will be built into the centre console which is waiting to be added to my rig :).

And the first of many home made bits, for added realism :).

Lots to do still and the loft space will eventually be made more homely for my rig to live, but I'm pleased so far!!

finally got round to building my basic sim rig..

So managed to test it out, it's really quite good! But then, typically, my TX wheel base died on me the same night I finished building the rig! now to see if it's under warranty and can be repaired/replaced.

I guess in the meantime I can pull the rig apart and properly paint/finish it. Thinking gulf racing colours.

Made some minor adjustments to the battlestation. Although I have identified two flaws in my plan:

1. With a TV where it is, I only bought myself 4 more degrees FOV
2. With my PC at full chat, I usually crank my fans to maximum speed since with my headphones on I can't hear them. This pumps a lot of heat into the room and, combined with the 55 inch plasma, it's not doing me any favors :devilish:

I'm using a big screen tv too (50").. to be able to get it close enough to me, I wall mounted it using an adjustable mount, comes out from the wall up to 62cm, adjustable height too. can get it right up behind the steering wheel, with pedals underneath it. One very similar to this.

Have pretty much finished the free sim rig. Well almost free, spent around $100 on screws and bits and pieces like drawer slides and some aluminium, but the wood was all from scrap! It now has some extra bracing to support the wheel uprights better, and a keyboard drawer under the wheel. The rig is rock solid now, and weighs a ton!

After testing it for a bit to make sure there are no major changes required, will strip it back down and repaint it in gulf racing colours.

metal braces added at bottom of wheel stand

brace added under keyboard drawer at front, for more stability

keyboard drawer out - is at the perfect height, clears knees and wheel perfectly

Hey guys, the CSW V2 arrived on Thursday and so I have unpacked it and installed it and so my cockpit/man cave has changed. I am set up in my insulated garage and I got rid of the two extra setups for Xbox One and PS3/PS4 and so I am back to one cockpit for everything. I found that although it was fun to have three set ups, the immersion was not there on the Xbox and PS3/PS4 because I could not sit in my cockpit and use my MPPC Simpedals. Here are the specs for my cockpit set up:

Fanatec CSW V2 Base
Fanatec Xbox Universal Hub with Forza Motorsport Rim
Fanatec Universal Hub with Oval Rim (arriving Tuesday)
Fanatec Formula Rim
MPPC Simpedals with Load Cell
Thrustmaster THR8S Shifter in H mode
Thrustmaster THR8S Shifter in Analog Handbrake Mode
Astro A40 Headsets (3 of them!!!) for PC, Xbox One & PS4
Dual Buttkicker Gamer 2 Amps and Transducers with Simvibe on PC
Obutto oZone Cockpit with Triple Monitor Attachment
Triple 27" Dell S2715h 60 hz IPS Monitors
Single AOC 24" 60 hz IPS Monitor as Fourth Display for Z1 Dashboard, etc.

I held on to my Thrustmaster TX as my back up wheel, with an extra set of T500RS Pedals with Basherboards mod.

Nowadays, most of my sim racing time is spent on iRacing, Assetto Corsa, Project CARS, Dirt Rally, F1 2015, Raceroom Experience and rFactor 2 for PC, Forza 6 for Xbox One and Gran Turismo 6 for PS3. The CSW V2 works great with all of these titles!!! I will use the oval rim and universal hub exclusively for iRacing NASCAR oval racing, the Formula rim for open wheel racing and the Forza rim and Xbox universal hub for everything else.

Here are some pictures of the rig and man cave, including my bookcase and workbench.

Just a little update on my rig. The instrument cowel is now fitted behind the wheel :).

I've cut down my G25 shifter, so that it would fit into the centre console!!

Also have the dash tombstone and waiting for some new buttons to arrive to fit in the double din slot!! :)

I will also use the slot above the double din, including wiring a power button for my pc, so that I can put the pc out of sight :).

Upgraded my rig to a 27inch monitor, have to say its the best bit I've done so far! Really gives good visibility at the correct fov, something I struggled with when I was using a 21inch
