Season 9 - General Discussion

theres only a couple of tracks there that id even consider using for an f1 league.....

paul ricard
watkins glen
donnington
imola
A1 ring

the rest id just have to make up points for as ive never tried any of them and probably never would in an f1 car.

I see your point, and it is valid David (and the same goes for me) :) However, would you never consider driving F1 on Magny Cours?

Personally I do not know all the other tracks, such as Montjuich, Estoril and Dijon, but I put my faith in that a vote will not bring forward unsuited tracks.

i think i may have drove magny-cours as its on the server but again it wouldnt be in any of my choices, like you ill put faith in the voting system and hope that the tracks chosen are ones that at least resemble formula one tracks.

The last calendar looks good to me but i am flexible with any calendar as I am not going away anywhere before Christmas.

as the for the tracks vote I prefer tracks that are suitable for f1 cars that offer some good challenge and excitement , i am afraid the list presented has got some tracks that I have never raced on with any type of cars or at least with an f1 car and i am not sure if I will be able to try those tracks before the vote takes place -- [ they might be great tracks ] -- so it might be a bit unfair from me to place any vote on those tracks unless maybe someone has the time to post a quick lap with an F1 car for each of the new tracks on the final vote list so at least to give an idea what to vote on ? or maybe it is to much to ask for and better to leave the vote blank?

Hockenheims 1999 layout is an excellent track, i had a great race with the pacific guys once before and loved it..

Maybe we then divide them between two categories, one for vote1 (Korea/India) and vote2 (Austin)?

I considered this but came to that with only one vote, assuming we get to see all drivers true opinion of each track, we should end up with the 2 most wanted tracks in general, and I think that is more important than having a track that resembles the one they race in real f1. But if one of the tracks happen to be in the US we will obviously race that after the Austin race.

Could you please name the tracks that you haven't been on yet? I can't promise anything but when I have the time to race (and there's not much traffic on the server) I could imagine to hotlap on the named track to upload a lap for you then...

btw: The tracks on the mixed server are cool. Last thursday night I meet Marko Fabian and some others there and we had some nice laps. That's why I added setups for Macau :) and Magny Course to the setup archive thread. The Magny Course setup also fits very well to Valencia 2007. Macau is a blast! Will upload a lap I have recorded - just for fun. (should such stuff be off topic or in an extra tracks discussion thread?)

True, why complicate things. Two tracks with most votes will do. I think we can remove Montjuich from the list, as well as Detroit 1988. Funny that Nico don't know Estoril or Dijon, both pretty legendary F1 tracks.. Estoril lost it's place on the calendar because of too high Bernie-bribes and Dijon is too dangerous plus it didn't have accommodation etc..

This took place at Dijon-Prenois (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dijon-Prenois):

Estoril: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autódromo_do_Estoril

True, I started following F1 in 2001 I think it was, and Norway is not a motorsport country in general :) But I did just look the tracks up in wikipedia and learned a thing or two. I also made the following list based on what I read:

Formula 1 races:
Paul Ricard – 71-90 (14 races)
Dijon – 74-84 (5 races)
Estoril – 84-96
Montjuic - 68-75
Detroit – 82-88
Watkins Glen – 61-80
Magny Cours – 91-07
A1 Ring – 70-87 and 97-03
Imola – 81-06
Donnington – 93

Im out for 22-08 race I hope to be in holiday and on top of a mountain:)but ready for SPA.
Love new suggestions about tracks Paul Ricard, Donnington,Hockenheim99, Jerez,CICADA (exclusive PrestoGP track;)) etc...for me if we use all news track is a big motivation for learn somethings of new but like say Nico some type of Gentlemen vote is better solution.

PS when I write this post Nico send last list of races WOW is what I mean more news tracks:thumbsup:

Thx Reik , The tracks i meant are ... Paul Ricard, le Mans, Cicada, Montjuich, Detroit , Estroil and Macau... but of course if you have the time :) .
i am sure many will benifit from it as well.
as always It is fun and challenging to try a new track so there should not be any issue in this regards but at least to give a fair share and honest opinion when placing a vote..

changing the subject a bit....

nico... i have a dedicated server i use at home, right now ive got 3 x race07 servers up and running at the moment, i usually have then running in the off season with a variety of tracks but ive set them up like this.....

f1 league (public) 1 = hungaroring/spa08
f1 league (public) 2 = monza/singapore
f1 league (public) 3 = suzuka/abu dahbi

what i was thinking is i could lock all 3 servers and only give the password to prestogp members, we could also add prestogp into the names of them too for more promotion, it would look something like.......

PrestoGP Private Practise 1
PrestoGP Private Practise 2
PrestoGP Private Practise 3

obviously the public wont be able to get on but it would put prestogp name on the server list even more and adding to our exposure, plus its a place for anyone to practise anytime the presto servers are down for any reason.

let me know what you think nico.

Thx Reik , The tracks i meant are ... Paul Ricard, le Mans, Cicada, Montjuich, Detroit , Estroil and Macau... but of course if you have the time :).

Here we go with Macau. I love it! :) Even though I don't think it's a good choice for a league race. ;) On the other hand we did our best and safest races when conditions were expected to be very difficult (I remember Glen in the rain or Montreal79 for the first time)

my vote would be for spa 2008.

also... ive opened the 3 servers with tracks from our forthcomign season, the servers do NOT log times to the prestogp site so no point complaining if you set a pb on it and wonder where its went, the servers are purely for promotional and practise purposes, the servers are called....

PrestoGP(MembersOnly)1 - Hungaroring/Spa2008
PrestoGP(MembersOnly)2 - Monza/Singapore
PrestoGP(MembersOnly)3 - Suzuka/Abu Dhabi

the password for the servers will be the usual presto server password so everyone should know it.

Sorry I went quiet for a bit. I'm glad the ball is well and truly rolling.

19/12 is bad for me, but I'll cope, obviously its no good to start early with at least 3 guys unable to attend.

Any chance of only a 1 week gap before the last race? Is the 19/12 race a problem for anyone else? If its only me I'll just have to work something out. I think we're meant to be going up the coast before Christmas, and the 19th is the wifes birthday, it could be a hard sell...

Like David and Nico I'm in favour of sticking as close to real F1 as we can, but I also don't have much of an idea about most of the tracks mentioned.

I did a couple of laps of Spa 08, it seems good, should we just make a choice on it now? I'm happy with 08.

Tim.

For me it's easy to vote for Spa08 because it looks like the 2004 version with the changed last chicane part. Since we all know Spa 2004 very well and the new section is done very well I think there isn't any problem(?).

Well Kennett mentioned the bump in Blanchimot and Eau Rouge to be too tricky. I can only say that both can be handled with sensible driving and the correct line (like in real racing). If you enter the section wrong, you should initially lower speeds and be prepared to react properly, which is a matter of practice and experience I think.

I allready made a video of a lap, which I'll upload asap so new comers can see the recommended line in those sections. Everything is fine if you drive Blanchimot thight and Eau Rouge without touching curbs too much. I don't need to increase ride height...

@anthony:
I've made a video of Estoril and will upload it asap too. I'll never understand why this track isn't recognized by many sim racers. It's tricky, it's accurate (Simbin track), it ahs been an F1 track in this layout for long and it's challenging because of many different types of corners (much overtaking expected).

I personally would not have disputed moving the last race 1 week earlier (nor would I dispute moving the first race 1 week later so that Vale could join, especially considering we still are starting 1-2 weeks early). But it is easy for a veteran like me, I know I can be ready for a race in a week, but can everybody else? I think the fewer we are as a group the easier it is to tailor make the calendar.

This is not a very clear answer Tim, I am sorry, I am not sure what is right in this situation. But I do know I want you on the starting line for all the races :)

On another note it sounds we are going for Spa 2008 :) But what about Hungaroring and Hockenheim?

I think the new version of Hungaroring seems to be a big improvement. From reading all the infos about it, I'd trust them. Maybe Kennett can have a detailed look?

I've driven Hockenheims 1999 layout with F1 long time ago in a club event I think and it worked fine. So for the fun I'd go for it. :)

Edit: Couldn't the track versions vote be done besides the vote for the two additional tracks? Or do we first have to prove that all versions work properly as they are? I could have some laps at Hungaroring 2011 and Hockenheim 1999 asap but I'm afraid it woun't happen before sunday or so.:(

I'll take a look at the Hungaroring and Hocke 1999. But i'll say this one more time: modern Hockenheim is available for FREE for all. Download Raceroom the Game 2 and you'll get it factory made, very accurate.. I'll prefer ingame content over addon tracks almost in all cases. Nurburgring GP was an exception, SimBin had made a lot of gameplay desicions to reduce bumbs, basically "noobin" it up all over.

That is a fact with SimBin made tracks. They have acccurate pits, elevations, runoff areas, detailing, gradients, cambers etc but they are all a lot smoother than in real life. Istanbul should be very bumby and it's practically smooth except in key locations. Addon track can be either, most are way too smooth . I've noticed that when i've introduced realistic size bumbs all along the the track, drivers are reporting bugs... Not real bugs, these bugs are in their head because most of us are used to driving in unrealistic smooth surfaces.

Try Birmingham, that is built with a genuine 60s driver consulting and it's very accurate. The end result: some refused to drive on it because "it's too bumby"... It's also the reason why we can drive with lowest ride height settings in most tracks.
RaceRoom - The Game tracks:

  • Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari Imola
  • Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
  • Nürburgring GP
  • Hockenheim GP
  • Hockenheim National
  • Hockenheim Short
Wow, the Imola 08 is there too! I'll recommend that over the default one. It's way better...
