SCS Software have released a new build of American Truck Simulator and European Truck Sim 2, bringing both games to version 1.6 ahead of a full public release.

The new build, deployed yesterday via the beta branch within Steam, has been released prior to a full public launch in the coming weeks. This is a strategy that has long worked well for SCS, as they allow those who wish to have access to the new build content early the opportunity to test and check all is well before fully launching to the wider game user base. In fairness to SCS the Czech developers very rarely release a difficult update, and in most cases the new builds tend to launch without any major issues.

Build 1.6 has been deployed across both American Truck Simulator and European Truck Simulator 2 at the same time and contains a range of new features and adjustments to the games. As previewed last week liftable trailer axles will make their debut alongside other such trucking goodies as adaptive transmission modes, improvements to air pressure simulation, improved engine simulation models and many other minor changes.

If you wish to participate in the open beta, you can find this version in public_beta branch on Steam. The way to access it is as follows: Steam client → LIBRARY → right click on American Truck Simulator → Properties → Betas tab → public_beta → 1.6 public beta. No password required.

You can read the full beta build 1.6 changelog below:

  • Weigh station pass device
  • Trailer liftable axles
  • Differential lock
  • Adaptive transmission modes (power, normal, eco)

  • Transmission input shaft simulation (double clutch)
  • Coin sound tweaked

MOD

  • All pressure unit set consistently to bars (data, animation, dashboard UI)
  • Nominal air_tank_pressure value added to chassis data
  • Changed interior animations: all air, oil and brake pressure (gauges, indicators)
  • New interior animation: trailer axle lift (indicator), differential lock (button, indicator)
  • New engine data: resistance_torque (measured at 2000 rpm)
  • Coin sound made moddable in the same way as other sounds (through .ogg file)
