Removing Assists from HUD Display

I have seen a few people do it, but I cannot figure out how to leave the stock HUD elements in place when using the full HUD, and remove the assists section in the lower left. I am not looking to resize or move any other portion around, but seeing that section is just an irritant. Has anyone done this before?

There is a "Minimal HUD" mod (designed for P&G) that gives only speed and gear, perhaps looking at that will tell how it's done.

In vanilla GTR2 pressing 2 on the keyboard cycles between the full and the minimal HUD, this might help you.
Other thing you can do is to use the XD. One of it's HUD elements covers the assists section of the vanilla HUD
XD (combined with the map plugin) is here on RD, under GTR2 misc downloads section
And alternatively - I think the Anniversary patch also has different HUD options
