Drivers & Teams

The RaceDepartment GT5 Championship S2 is for single driver entries only.

Vehicles & Liveries

Vehicle Regulations Thread

This is a single model championship using a racing modified Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. Your vehicle must meet the vehicle regulations exactly in order to be eligible for the championship. If your vehicle is found to be in breach of the regulations or using unapproved upgrades, you will be immediately disqualified from the championship. You may also be banned from future championships.

All drivers must use a unique number and colour for their car. These must be stated when you register for the championship, ensuring that you do not choose a number and colour already reserved by another driver. In addition, you may not choose any number between 1-10. If you do choose a previously reserved number or colour then the staff will assign you one instead.

Shakedown

There will be one or more shakedown events held before the championship begins. All championship participants are obligated to attend these events as they are designed to detect the connection issues that some users have with GT5. If you suffer from these problems and they cannot be resolved then you may be asked to give your position in the championship to a reserve driver.

Calendar

Shakedown: Grand Valley Speedway - 8th January 2012

Round 1: Laguna Seca Raceway - 15th January 2012

Absence

This is the most important part of the briefing that you need to understand! If you accept the invitation to drive in the championship then we expect you to be present for all races during the season. If you miss a round without giving at least two days notice then the staff reserve the right to remove you from the championship. You also risk termination of your licensed member status at RaceDeparment.

Championship Regulations

Championship Regulations Thread

The Championship Regulations are laid out in a document for the 2012 seasons. As the regulations differ from the club rules, everyone must read them before registering.

Seems that there might be something a bit dodgy going on with my PS3. One game keeps displaying graphical anomalies after 15-20 minutes of play such as flickering/neon textures and deformed 3D models... classic signs of overheating. My PS3 is already out in the open, away from heat sources and clear of dust. I haven't noticed anything untoward in GT5 itself yet, but if my PS3 breaks then it's game over. I can't afford a replacement.

I also guess now is a good time to use Analog Sticks instead of D-Pad.

Going to be hard for me to do well in this league. Trying to drive a RWD 700bhp Monster with Analog Sticks (will use D-Pad actually if I can't get used to Analog) and X button for Accelrator.

RWD = Gentle Throttle and Steering.
Using D-Pad and X Button = Harsh Throttle and Steering

To be honest, that really isn't any way to drive. I would ask that you try and keep a healthy distance from other drivers as digital controls make clean wheel to wheel racing near impossible.

Aggression isn't what I'm concerned about, and I said near impossible. Tapping a digital button to get around a corner is no substitute for holding an analogue stick or wheel in place. One slip of a thumb or incorrect tap and you've bumped into the guy racing next to you. That's all it takes to cause wheel damage, which can ruin their race and yours. The tapping also makes you appear to be swerving slightly to everyone else, meaning your movements are far less predictable when someone is attempting a pass.

At the end of the day, digital controls do indeed make you more liable to have contact with someone, and for that reason I again ask that you keep a healthy distance from other drivers. I'm not saying you need to stay 40 feet away, but you do need to maintain a distance that makes contact very unlikely to occur if you make a control mistake.

The shakedown event will sort out any problems and hopefully show that I won't be sliding all over the place. I put in the same amount of effort and practice as any other driver would and I show the same amount of care as other drivers would. Of course I won't be trying stupid overtakes which will end up in contact or me spinning off, just like any other driver wouldn't try to barge down the inside of the corner.

I might be using Digital Controls but that dosen't mean that I have to be singled out and that I have to be treated or have to treat others differently. Drivers with Steering Wheels could make exactly the same mistakes as a Digital Control Driver could make. If you stamp your foot too much on the throttle pedal, you could slide, just as if I accelerate too early, I will slide.

Bradley, please read my posts. At no point did I suggest that you would be over-aggressive in your driving, that you would be attempting stupid overtakes, that you would be sliding all over the place, that you would not be practising, etc etc etc. Try hearing what I am saying instead of taking everything as a personal attack.

Using digital controls is far less precise and gives far less control than analogue controls. Digital controls means tapping a button to hold a constant speed, and tapping the d-pad to maintain a constant turn radius. That inherently means a much greater margin for error in a way that does not affect analogue control methods. This isn't a matter of opinion, it's a matter of fact. For that reason, keyboard and d-pad control methods are actually banned by some communities.

That is not currently the case at RD. However, as I have already stated twice now, you will be expected to take extra care. You owe it to your fellow drivers not to allow your archaic control preference put their races at risk, and if that means giving a little extra room then that is what you will have to do. The same applies to anyone and everyone using digital controls. If you are adamantly opposed to the idea of taking this extra care then I suggest you use analogue controls instead, thereby eliminating the problem.

I've done some tyre tests following the latest update and have posted my findings in the Setup section of the forum. I'd recommend taking an hour to test all three racing compounds on your own cars to see how they behave. The update has changed the rate of wear, and also how grip is distributed through the wear/life of the tyre.

I need about 50k more so i can get the race mods sorted

European Hot Hatch seasonal, London. 135k in 5 minutes, bumped up to 270k if you have the full 200% login bonus.

My PS3 has been making a rattling noise for the last couple of days. It starts up near silent as usual, but the noise kicks in a few minutes later even if it's just sitting on the XMB. Then, a few minutes later is disappears again. I haven't played any games during this time so I have no idea what happens when the temperature rises.

As far as I know, the only moving parts in a PS3 are the Blu-Ray drive and the fan. The drive is fine so the fan must be making the noise. Rattling fans and graphical anomalies are not good signs. I've had a look at a few external fans but they're all completely useless as they would require one of my two USB ports to work. Both are already in use when playing GT5 online.
