Mainly for online performance. Less drivers = less strain on PD's rubbish servers = hopefully less lag and connection issues. That's the theory anyway... sometimes their servers can't seem to handle six drivers, let alone twelve. Given the wildly differing levels of performance on any given day it's hard to judge whether less drivers actually has an affect or not.

To be honest, it often seems that GT5's performance is affected more by how many people are playing online throughout a region rather than in one specific lobby. Perhaps holding events at non-peak times would be a more effective way of reducing problems, but holding them at odd times means less potential participants.

So it has no impact on what kind of connection "room owner" have?

Registration Closed - Participants Finalised

Registration for the RDGT5 Championship is now closed. We have nine drivers ready to fight it out over eight rounds of intense competition! It all kicks off on Monday 20th June at Tsukuba Circuit.

In the meantime there are two club events this week designed as a pre-season shakedown. Tuesday's event will be held at Autumn Ring and Thursday's event will be held at Grand Valley Speedway. These events are not mandatory and are open to everyone, including those not taking part in the championship. However, it would be appreciated if championship participants would try to attend at least one of the events in order to test overall online performance.

Race Briefing

Please ensure that you have read and understood the Event Format & Rules before joining this event.

Joining the Lobby

You must join the lobby before the Qualifying session (19:20 GMT). If you have not joined by this time then you must not do so, as connecting during qualifying will ruin the session. You will not be able to participate in race one, though you may be able to join during the ten minute interval between races in order to participate in race two. You will be notified by the Racing Staff via PSN message when this is possible.

Disconnections

If you are disconnected during the Practice session then you may rejoin immediately. If you are disconnected during qualifying then you must not attempt to rejoin. You will unfortunately have to miss race one and wait for the interval between races before rejoining. You must also wait for the interval if you are disconnected during a race. You will be notified by the Racing Staff via PSN message when you can rejoin.

Start Procedure

The races will use a standing start with false starts disabled.

Pit Stop Procedure

When exiting the pits during any session, you must not cross the white pit lane line until it ends.

Corner Cutting

Two wheels must remain on the track at all times. The track edge is marked by white lines and curbs.

Incidents

If you are involved in an incident or feel that the rules have been broken, please do not raise a complaint during the event itself. Instead, report the incident to the Racing Staff after the event via PM. For details on the information you must include in an incident report, please see the Championship Information thread.

Absence

If you accept the invitation to drive in the championship then we expect you to be present for all races during the season. If you miss an event without giving any notice the staff reserve the right to remove you from the championship. If you cannot make an event then you must notify the staff via PM.

Sub-minute lap times should be expected across the board on this track. At a rough guess I would say maybe an average of 57-58 seconds during the race, though someone may go a fair bit lower than that in qualifying.
