The first season of the RaceDepartment BATracer Championship finished last week, capping off a great opening season with the 2008 Indycar carset.
Chad Dunbar won the first season, and soon after announced his indefinte retirement from the game. A fine way to go out. To look at the results you may have thought that he had it easy, but he left it fairly late. Ricardo Umans took the first RD championship race at Homestead Miami, but after that Dunbar took 3 in a row. Around this time he gave everyone some strategy tips, and before you knew it, RaceCarToon creator Omer Said had taken 5 in a row, plus the championship lead.
Into the second half of the season, and it became two championships, Dunbar and Said streaking away, battling for first and second, and then those in 3rd through 7th, slowly losing touch from the two leaders. Road course made up the majority, and this gave others the chance to take something away from the first season. At Watkins Glen, Aidan Keranen broke Said's streak, before Dunbar took another 3 victories to close up on the championship. Jonathan Seekings became the 4th and final victor of the first season, but it was too little, too late, and the Dunbar express rolled on, another 3 victories to take an unbeatable 53 point lead into the final race. Omer Said took a final victory to take an easy second place in the championship, while Seekings held off teammate Umans and Keranen for 3rd place, along with the best non-RD-er of the championship, Dennis Owe in 6th.
But we won't end there! Already we are gearing up for the next season of the championship, and this time we'll be using an old favourite, the Classic 86 carset (based on the 1986 F1 season). A tricky set to get right, we're looking for any RD-er's to join us for a great season. Not on BATracer? No problem!
