Rally - "Honda's Home " - Mon 17th & Tues 18th January 2011

Gahh, lovely rallying guys.

SS1 - Well, why not start on a high note (whether it be due to other retirments or pace I will never know) For the EU group I set the fastest time here and was punching the air as soon as that was confirmed. Very happy with it, although I expect some of the OC session guys to rip it to shreds, or they could just pootle round and let me win the stage :D

SS2 - Full of happiness and adrenaline I drive flat off of a fast right at about 75% stage distance and hit a tree head on, ending that stage in an instant (you can tell it will be a day of ups and downs)

SS3 - Moderately uneventful, I dont really know my way around but set a respectable time with very few mistakes nonetheless.

SS4 - Much the same as SS3 only with more CARE LEFT CARE RIGHT -_- hateful things in japan those corners.

SS5 - May the weather commence. Another fast run through what was SS1 in the wet apart from a nice tree palm in the final split costing me about 10 seconds :|

SS6 - Noiker, now, I had a fight to have with this stage. I refused (before I set off) to retire. So I went at it as though the fog was not there and through some luck and a fair bit of pace I got my second EU stage win... WoooHoo!!!

SS7 - Hugely uneventful and conservative from me, nothing to see here, was all in all OK. Ahahaha... just saw that I won here too :D 3 EU stage wins...!

SS8 - I retired, like I said, I hate Care corners and I had a day of ups and downs.

I wont be anywhere in the results but I hope I showed the pace that I can have if I try.

Thanks,

Oscar (Replays will be with you soon Senad.)

SS1
All fine until about 1.5km till the end. Stomped on the throttle, and understeered into a tree. Had to reverse, and it took me 7 hours to get going again...

SS2
Silly crash again, and one panicky fail. That caution, fast left bend, tree on the outside. Forgot about it again, panicked, went hard left, and landed into the crowd.

SS3
Some close calls, but no major mistakes.
Awesome splits between Norman and me, +0.02, -0.31, +0.32 :D

SS4
Not bad, only 10-15 seconds slower than my Group N runs from the championship.
Just noticed that I'm 3rd overall somehow, LOL :D

SS5
No mistakes, happy with the run, but still lost 20 seconds to Dariusz
Some nice sliding in this one, wasn't as bad as the good weather run.

SS6
Not bad, no major mistakes. Scary bump near the end, thought I was done, but managed to end up on all 4 wheels.
LOL, got up to 2nd in EU.

SS7
Nothing special.

SS8
Passed through a marshal :D

Overall happy I guess, 2nd, 11 seconds behind 1st. But I definitely don't know how to drive this car. I think I did a good stage, no mistakes, happy with it -> 15 or 20 seconds behind.

Three retirements
St 1 of bridge Engine
St 5 Hit tree almost at they end of the stage Engine
St7 Hit tree again
The rest so so not that bad
Japan stages are not easy pace notes not always right "fast left"almost a 90 ??

But always enjoy it ( well almost lol)

Brilliant rally, enjoyed that one awefully, I do love the japanese stages and there was something nice about the Civic's handling I liked. Thanks Warren / Senad was a blast :D.

Great fun as always. Very challenging car though, felt like I almost had to do a 3-point turn to get through the hairpins and k-lefts! But when it was up to speed in third gear it was a blast though, reminding me of my old Ford Escort. Great fun!

Had some really stupid offs when stepping on the throttle too early and understeering out on the grass. Took an eternity to get back on the gravel. Otherwise I was quite careful and took it easy. Here's a replay of SS8 when I was getting a little sleepy now and then:

Great fun driving with you guys and thanks for organizing:good:

Japan stages are not easy pace notes not always right "fast left"almost a 90 ??

Some of them have "tightens (bad)" added - that is usually a HUGE difference. I try to remember that "tightens bad" = "Brake, dammit!".

Humm, overall I'm happy with the event, despite making a fool of myself. Usually I was among the faster guys bar the two aliens (ignore their fake humbleness :]) and by not crashing on the 5 first stages (some minor spins, a CFH and a few reversings though) I was able to sit right on Terri's back, having made up the eons lost on SS1. But then SS6 came and I, being an idiot, went too hot on the first bump that everyone knows. I'm still not sure why the car got so set off by it, since I don't I was going full-on or more towards the middle of the road, but it made two full 360s, I started to downshift looking for a way out of the spiral, and then it hit the tree, locking the gearbox in 1st... Had to CFH and limp the entire Noiker in 1st, which meant only 30s saved compared to the retired time. Bummer.

I was afraid I will give up completely, but I had real fun sliding on the last 3 stages, again being just behind Dariusz and Terri. Damn fast Świder stole my SS win by 2s on stage 8, I was trying to push really hard here, having a blast while doing so :).

All in all nice idea, refreshing, a bit demanding, very fun. And I haven't retired, so I'm hopping on my moral high horse passing around some smug looks (ignoring the 3,5mins lost on Noiker :p).

Thanks for all who started and to Warren and Senad for doing the heavy lifting. Time to rest now, I was driving feeling sick today.

superb event, great fun!

stage01 was not focussed at all, had three little trips through the fields and came in 9th of 15, teammate Krister did a breathtaking 3rd (thumbs up!)

stage02 long Noiker, all went well till I decided to take a preemptive move off the track after a missed breakpoint which ended between some trees where I got literally stuck and had to call for help with a fully intact car :( 10th, overall 8th

stage03 not a good one, cautious me managed to do a picturebook roll and a ditch into the little brook a little later, totally lost my rhythm after the roll, 13th of 15 (shudder) but 7th overall (???)

stage04 first good run of the event, really enjoyed it, ended up 8th and 8th overall.

stage05 Sirpa 2nd time in rain, way better than my first run, almost matched my time in dry conditions, 8th and 8th overall

stage06 foggy Noiker, very enjoyable with teammate Krister slowly creeping up on me in overall standings I started to push a little and ended up 43 secs faster than in good conditions, lol. 9th position and 8th overall.

stage07 Pirka damp, love damp because it suits my extremely careful driving, one minute faster than in dry, haha, 8th and climbing to 7th overall

stage08 another clean though slightly jerky run at Tanner, matched my time from first round by less than a second, another 8th and climbing up to 6th overall, Krister still hot on my heels in 7th, teammate Roman in 12th, nice Blue Flag team result :)

thx loads for this fun event Warren, Senad and anybody else involved.

My rally didn't go to plan ( again:redface: ) as i had the biggest chance yet to win it with Simone being out of it. But i,m happy anyway with my progress, just have to stop retiring lol.

ss1: was on a course to win it but in 3rd sector i've clipped inside of a corner which launched me headon into a tree. Engine dead so had to DNF:mad:.
ss2: good run & win by 22sec on Lukasz.
ss3: good run & win by 9sec on Oscar.
ss4: good run & win by 2sec on Oscar.
ss5: good run & win by 19sec on Senad.
ss6: another good run until a small mistake near the end puts me on a side and had to CFH, still finished in 2nd only 10sec to Oscar.
ss7: two small spins & in 2nd only 00:00:06 to Oscar:D:D
ss8: good..ish run & win by 2sec on Lukasz.

I didn't make any major mistakes:), both my retirement & CFH were just little mistakes with BIG consequences ( 5min lost:poop: ). I'm very happy with the direction my rallying is going to, lets hope i can make clear runs in the championship:wink:.
After my ss1 DNF & dead last, i've managed to climb back up to 3rd with 5 stage wins by the end of ss8, only 1min 41sec behind the EU winner:cool::).

Congrats to Terri for the EU win & Senad for 2nd, good drive guys:good:.

My replays are becoming boring ( which is a very good sign:D ) so only 2 again:

WD all & GL for those still to go:)

breakfast done now I can post again :D

very interesting rally can't really go flat out even in the straight because one wrong judgement about the next corner will end in a disaster..either spend the whole day trying to get back on the road or cfh so I just drive like before careful but still ending up wide on the exits

ss1 to 4 - can't even stay long on the throttle.. must not overshoot a corner that was on my mind the entire time..

ss5- its raining and the understeering gets worst, almost drive into a bridge again but luckily the words in my head saved me

ss6 to 8 - same story as ss1-4

that was a lot of fun guys! I hope more event like this will come..hmm featuring cars that are "un-used" by many :D

thanks again for the people who organized this event!

Nice rally, that car was challenging on those stages for sure! I was just tiptoeing thru and trying to stay as clean as possible. Was going well until SS5, I have issues on that stage anyway, and the loose surface really gave me issues.

Was good fun, I really like that car.

Woooo, that was fun! Loved the challenge, having to tame this beast-like combination.

A couple of mistakes resulting in a slow-crawl back to the gravel - including one in the first split of SS1 - had me thinking this was going to be a long slog. However, with no CFH or retirements, by SS7 I was sitting pretty on a 3rd for the Euro session.

63% of the way through SS8, a snap direction change, a slender tree, a gearbox stuck in 4th, all hope on fire. :D

Still, for me, a massive improvement over last week - I think I ended up 9th in the Euro.

Here's something I've been messing about with, it's still experimental at this stage, but it's a graphical representation of the rally (well, the Euro session in this case):

example.png

Obviously, it's quite hard to see the fine details and picking distinct colours for 32+ people might be a bit of a challenge (they're auto-generated in this image). It might be better to create an image per stage - which would allow a closer look at the details and a smaller image overall. But is this interesting/useful for you guys? Would you like to see more work done on it?

Interestingly, since I read in the entire results from the rally, it would be trivial to output them in the required format for the RD rankings - as mentioned in this thread.

ps. Image is 1600 x 900 - so open in a new tab to see full size.
