Rally - English Escort - Monday 1st & Tuesday 2nd August 2011

Well this was a huge spin-fest for me. When the rear check out there was no catching it. Most of the time it was just a psin, but also had a few cfh's and nailed two marshals on SS2.

Need to go shopping for understeer....

Thanks for this one, crew....

Finished the rally so far, absolutely murdered the 'scort in ss6, and it had electrics failure ON the finish line, but luckily it went through hehe

Once again, the old Escort delivered bucket loads of fun in the OC Session. Great to have so many drivers on TS too.
All the Aussies were fired up to knock Dariusz of the podium, after his cheeky post suggesting he may win the Rally.
I believe that goal was achieved too, what a shame.

Great battle tonight between Jeremy and Rick, with Jeremy winning our session by about 7 seconds.

I was in the mix too most of the Rally, except for a dopey spin and roll into the scrub in SS04 (including a CFH). Doh!!
Had a ball sliding the tail of the Escort all over the place, somehow you never quite feel in control of this car, but you just hang on and plant the throttle and hope. It's quite a ride.

Thanks to all who joined the OC Session and especially all the guys on TS.

Love the car, great physics. Really nice for practicing.

Rally wasn't that difficult but that meant that you had to know your limits and how hard can you push.
I had a great deal of lucky escapes on SS2 on the bridge and on SS3 where my car went into the air after a wide exit.
On SS6 I wasn't that lucky and I didn't get the message after I avoided some trees and called for help, to take it easy. I continued to push and hit the bank and rolled onto a roof. That was another CFH and a minute lost overall.

Roy was now 4th in the Oc session in front of me by 35 seconds so I had to push in the last two stages. I did OK and took the 4th.

Thank you for the rally and next time I'll join you on TS. :)

Stage 1 seemed to be okay, no mistakes from me, was surprised it was so tidy. Then I saw the results. 20 seconds slower than almost everyone.
Decided to push a bit more on stage 2, so obviously I rolled it and lost the brakes. That didn't work well, so I retired.

Then decided the 360 rotation was too sensitive, so increased it to 540.
Then realized 540 is too much rotation, so decreased it back to 360.
Then had troubles adjusting back to 360, LOL.

Had some funny incidents along the way.
Missed the bridge on Harwood Forest, and jumped over the river :D. Bridges? Where we're going, we don't need bridges.
Killed a few people too, in silly ways. Went a bit off road, caught in a ditch and some grass. People 50m ahead. If I had braked, I would've been stuck, so I just floored it and tried to steer out of the way. Failed.
I also killed a couple on Chirdonhead, that first 90 degree left corner. Went too far with the throttle, and ended up in a 360 spin. Unfortunately, the marshals were right there, and I killed them with my breakneck 10 km/h speed.
On one stage, Falstone probably, I crossed the finish line sliding on my roof :D

Funny rally.

20 minutes behind the winner in the end :D

Of my 8 stages, I had 3 that will sort under "approved". The remaining 5 will just head into the "not good enough"-pile this time around. Rolled several times, killed some spectators, span on some stages... I have lost my consistency

I just hope I'll find it again before the championship event next weekend

For me, i normally go for 540 rotation, on m profiler always 540 too.
But this car wasn't catchable like that, spinning everytime. I put it back on it's default 990 and wow! It handled like the real deal...
Catch slides, hold drifts etc was suddenly very real and possible.

Yep, 990 AND 900 on the wheel. 2 1/2 turns of lock and the car was very drivable, although it does take some fancy handy work if you start to get it wrong, LOL. I LOVE this car.

Great event, Very close between Jeremy and i with Warren close behind. I don't think Jeremy and i were further apart in single stage times then 5 seconds. GREAT fun.

SS1 - Started slowly. Not a great fan of this stage and took it easy at first. But when I saw the first split and i was 4 secs down on mister Hammond I though, BUGGER, i have to start working. Dropped too much time
SS2 - My favorite in the game. Thought I was going well untill again in the first split. 4 secs down on Jeremy so i picked up the pace.
SS3 - Another one i don't really enjoy. But kept it close to Jeremy here. 7 secs down over all.
SS4 - Ok, Time to push. Almost a perfect stage with a couple of "little" mistakes (slid wide once and didn't get one junction QUITE right) Back to 3 secs behind Jeremy over all.
Over the next 3 stages, i pushed a little to hard. going wide, tank slippers in a couple of corners and the steering wheel got a work out to the full 900 degrees. Dropped to 13 secs behind Jeremy with one stage to go. Warren, Roy, Dubravko enough of a gap behind that it would take a mistake from me to be caught.
SS8 - I guess this one is good for me. 5 secs faster than second on the last stage was a good way to finish and brought me back to 7 secs.

If Jeremy gets beaten in this event, whoever it is is a worthly winner. Apart from a couple of small mistakes and my slow start, I don't think either of us made any mistakes. Well done.

Love the car, got the hang of it after a few stages. The grass grip issue was annoying though. A few times I had the rear wheel on the edge of the grass and car would just swamp down and wouldn't move an inch. Very annoying. Still, up there in a few stages.

Hope we run this again :D

I see that this version of the car has between 40 and 50 bhp more than the Group H-one we used last time. Should make this one a little bit wilder to handle?

SS1: I haven't touched the game since the end of Season 2. Had one testrun. And forgot that there was no handbrake. Took two sectors to get that in my head.

SS2: Falstone, for me a "nail or fail" stage. This time, it was fail.

SS3: Argh, darn photographer or what it is...

SS4: OK stage, the usual roll in T-Last!

SS5: And there, my comp. blacked out -.-

Couldn't resist another go with this fun car at EU4, not without incidents this time :D. Realized i,m not gonna have the win this time for sure:mad:, i was 5 - 10 sec faster on average tonight then yesterday:redface:. Thats puts me about 1 min behind eventual winner, i will be very lucky to get to top 5 with my run:eek:. But what fun did i have...:):):):):)

LOOOL, whose idea was to use 900°?! Also, is there anybody who set everything to MANUAL for this car, including H shift and manual clutch? :D It is amazing combination with RWD car, because you just wont left either the shift stick and wheel, so every turn is 1 hand work side by side with clutching (with slight amount of heel&toe) to downshift letting the engine be in high revs all the time! I can only recommend ! This was one of the best rallye I have ever driven... I love this car and all the scandinavian flicks I have done!

SS1: I tried it with 900° wheel... I broke my arm in the first 90° turn when countersteer! Then I slightly touched a tree and car stuck, gearbox failed, retired..
SS2: I was wiser and reduced it to 640°! What a hell! It was nice drive, countersteer wasnt ever before that much natural and enjoyable! Unfortunately I lost traction and my rear wheels ended on grass, couldnt move for 1 or 2 minutes!
SS3: The same as before, I had amazing drive, amazing time until I lost traction on grass and couldnt get back on road within 1 minute!
SS4: It seems its being traditionally that I cant do great stage :( I had good times, amazing ride, 200 meters before finish I ended in forest and again without traction lost about minute to get back :D
SS5: Whooho! This was my favorite ride! I knew I lost a lot in previous stages so I pushed hard! With H shift, manual clutch and 640° it was an amusing stuff, because this stage is everything BUT narrow, and with one hand on a shift stick and one on a wheel I had both hands full of work, while my foots were doing a hole into a floor :D I am pleased with this one...
SS6: Well, I was out of luck on this stage... I again pushed but without fortune, I oversteered firstly to the grass again, the I was a little bit more on the throttle in one turn exit and my ass got wider (just a little!) and killed one photograph (I am going to visit you Senad in a jail :D) ... I had then 2 CFHs, one I spun and ended on a grass, 10° down to the road, without traction... after that, I hit a bump and after 2 wheel ride I ended on a roof... but my finish was in grandiose drift :D
SS7: My goal was simple, to not do the same mistake as in the previous run... I didnt, but I did similar, just 300 meters before finish! Bah! but this was bumpy one, I didnt fancy it much
SS8: I dont want to talk about this one, shortly, 4 CFHs, crashed throughout the whole stage (not even spectacular, just the noobish once)... baaaaaad

well, to summarize I ended 14 minutes behind Dariusz... it was fun, but it was without variety of the stages, I think they could have been chosen much better than just 2x4 stages, like the MKI. rallye :) but anyway I enjoyed it, I hope I wont finish far from top 10 :D thanks Warren for putting such a thing up.. lets wait for results :)

oh I might forget, shall we send you Senad replays? Or anybody else?
