A few moments ago Windows PC users worldwide who have ordered their copies of Project Cars online via Steam received the long awaited message to finally start their engines and play their new game.

Digital pre-ordered versions for the Playstation 4 and Xbox One are now available throughout Europe as well.

Let us know in the comments below what your first impressions are of Slightly Mad Studios' long anticipated multi-platform racing game.

I,m a big guy with big feet,s and using clutch for braking in G27, is there any tweak for that ?

Open up the pedals it´s easy don´t worry and exchange the springs for brake and clutch. Better yet install some rubber like the nixim brake mod or maybe try some classic squash ball mod. Though for minimal tinkering get the nixim rubber or equivalent :)

If you run on consoles maybe it´s not possible to map clutch as brake? It always amazes me how little you can tweak on consoles. I know that is supposed to be a plus and they are deliberate incapable :)

So, is it actually worth it? I've always kinda told myself that I don't need this game as I have everything I want in AC + the dream pack...

Is it worth buying even if you already have most of it? Is it a true sim or more Forza/Gran Turismo like? That's about the only thing which is now influencing my decision...

Fired it up before work this morning not really expecting too much other than decent visuals being a RF2 fan. How wrong was I!

Pro's
Visuals great at default (default for my setup?) Not even bothered tweaking them yet.
Controller setup a doddle even with multiple controllers like button box etc.
FFB feels decent, nice weighty feel, maybe lacking a bit of road feel (is there a way to improve this?)
FFB feels like you are controlling the wheels (RF2, Stockcar rather than the steering column AC,RRE)
Lots of British circuits including my local and beloved Oulton Park spectacularly realised.
Menu and interface is well designed.
Big race grids and special FX dont effect FPS too much unlike AC.
Ai seems pretty good so far as well.
Single player career mode!
BAC Mono & Oulton give Lazarou a big smile like this.

Cons
Many, many settings in the FFB setup that I have no clue about.
Probably find some more to moan about being a entitled gamer.

Anyone know how to change car livery when selecting practice mode?

Overall so far this is everything I hoped Assetto Corsa would be but currently is not.

Hopefully the career mode will keep me entertained for a good while.

Cool. Did they charge you at the same time or did they charge you when you ordered? You ordered the limited edition? Was not clear if it was the tinbox or just the digital.

contacted support this morning will see when I get a reply.

They charged me last night when i looked at the key, i dont know wich edition it was, but key was for steam download.
I always buy from oneplay, there prices are best on the market. I dont understand how they can charge so little for new games. Mortal kombat X right now is 20 euros :)

Dammit Paul, I was already trough with my decision to not buy this and wait for reviews and the inevitable news that this is sooo NFS3. I´ll have to buy this now and see for myself. So much blinky shiny things in there... must be good :inlove:.
I was the same, I am getting married in a few weeks so I am supposed to be on my best behavior as we could have paid off third world debt with what that is costing, but I just could not help buying it for £22.00 from cd keys. Driving mainly RF2 these days I really thought I would be disappointed but regardless of the nuances of FFB that may or may not be missing, it's great fun!

@Bram Hengeveld some the cars you need to increase the overall mz I believe it is to 34-40 bmanic posted a very good start up point for the ffb I'll try to find.

Bmanic

The most important parameter to check that it's set to 100 is the Force Feedback Strength parameter in the main controller menu. It defaults for many wheels at 75 and some wheels at 50 which is completely wrong. Then make sure FFB damping saturation (the next parameter under FFB strength) is set to zero.

After this I suggest using Real Gain parameter (first value to 0.98, second to 0.1 and last value again t 0.98) unless you have a direct drive wheel (2000$+ wheel).. or even the Fanatec CSW v2.

Then finally remove all smoothing in the car setup FFB menu. All cars default to 0.1 Fx Smoothing which is stupid.

Then I suggest setting the values for most cars like this (note that his is very subjective though. You need to adapt the FFB to your own type of driving):

Fx = 48
Fy = 44
Fz = 54
Mz = 100

Then the top parameter (master scale) to your preferred setting. I usually have it at around 34 to 40, depending on how heavy FFB I want.

Finally one of the most important and one of the most difficult to understand and tweakparameters is called Spindle Arm Angle (or just spindle arm). You can ONLY find it in each car's setup screen when you are NOT in the actual practice/qualifying/race session. So from the main menu go into car setup editing and you will find it as the last value. Many cars have this setting quite nicely set but some cars have it completely wrong. This setting is key to getting a proper feel of the forces through the whole range of slip angles. If you set the value too low you'll have a very tightly centered wheel with little FFB once you cross over optimum slip angle. If you set the value too high the opposite happens.. the wheel is very light and "slow" in the middle and gets progressively stronger the more you turn the wheel. Set it just right and your wheel will be giving you amazing detail.

EDIT: One last note: My way of tweaking FFB is purely based on laptimes. I tweak until I get the ultimate consistent laptimes. I don't care at all about trying to get a wheel to feel "realistic" (which would be completely dead in a normal car) nor do I try to get it "heavy and bumpy". I just tweak it for ultimate important physics information fidelity. I want to know exactly when I'm not at optimum grip levels. This is the only fairly OBJECTIVE way of tweaking FFB because I can directly measure it. I drive 5 laps around Silverstone with default FFB. Check my laptimes. I then tweak the FFB and drive 5 more laps then compare the laptimes. Did I do better? Did I do worse? It's like tweaking a car setup.

FFB can have a HUGE impact on your laptimes, especially if it is "wrongly set". It can truly work against you and make the car feel very odd if it's badly setup. But get it just right and you can vastly improve the laptimes and as an added bonus you wont be spinning and crashing as often either.
What wheel is this for because I can't find the menus or settings he's referring to and they don't correspond to the game menus. Sorry if I'm being a dimmock.

I know how. They gamble and when they don´t get the prices they want they tell the customers they don´t have any limited edition keys....

Ordered from G2play more expensive but at least I got my key.

He's referring to 3 different types of settings.

Within controller configuration you have the damping and overall force. Within the wheel calibration screen you have things like deadzone removal and gain adjustments. The rest of the settings are in the per-car setup menus.

Just got it fired up ,messed with the UI and set my G27 got in a lobby with 22 drivers in the historic escort's at Laguna seca .. what a great combo ..these things do get sidewaze and the door to door action was great ,damage shows up as you bang and clang along ..saw no lag on this server was very fun! FFB felt pretty good to , I like when you go in the dirt it becomes harder to steer and all ..

Then the server switched to the Ruf at The Glen short' in the rain ! It was great .a little grippy but fun close racing .. the rain on the windshield and the wipers cleaning them is superb moddling !

The whole on line thing seems kinda vague with no real instructions to set Ports or anything, you simply create a lobby with your prams and players start to join ,steam's also integrated right into the lobby so you can invite friends & all.. lots of cool feature's and it has a nice finished feel to it ,sharp UI with crisp reactions ,no hang ups on exits and such ..

Pretty happy with the game so far .. still early but I don't have any buyers remorse yet ! lol good times !
