People are cheating in the online leaderboards, right? [PC]

  1. Cheating in the online leaderboards [PC]

Looking at the top times for Sakhir, it looks like most of the really strong times with great setups are plateauing around 1:47, then for the top couple guys, they have slightly over 1:23.

Racing against that guy's ghost, he's a bit slower than my rather mediocre best time, then suddenly 1/3 of the way through the track, his ghost vanishes and teleports way down the course.

Why do people bother cheating like that in a contest that awards no prize whatsoever besides the satisfaction of knowing you've done well?

Leaderboards always seem mostly pointless when they're polluted with fake scores.
