nVidia or AMD ? i need a upgrade soon

ok truly thanks for the input & mostly you Jim Cole, i really appreciate it & understand better now, im running 4.0Ghz & Disabled the Speed steps etc that was reccomended, i have not touched the volts or anything else, if i took a bunch of screenshots, could you help me improve abit more?

the Temperatures are fine (air cooling) is going pretty good, not hot at all & i really want to go to 4.5 Ghz at some point, if i have the right settings for Stability if you can help me with that?

once that's sorted i'll either get a Nvidia 700 Series in March or maybe get the 7970 ?

i will definitely upgrade to 18GB of Ram :)

Thanks Tom Endres

Scott Webber 16GB should be it, 18GB would mean you'll have to get 2x 8GB + 1x 2GB or something alike. :)

Sorry that I couldn't follow the thread lately, hope you'll have fun with your new GFX card either way. I'd always pick an nVidia oder an AMD (ATI) any day. :)

Thanks Tom Endres i meant 16GB :) , yeah i think im going to wait for the 700 GTX Series from nVidia, i want to make my investment worth while for the new couple of years :)

it amazes me how iv'e upgraded everything 2x over on my pc the past 6 years but i have never upgraded my good old trusted Saitek Exclipse (light up) keyboard :p

15 or so years and still going strong. :p

I miss a SSD and save some more money for a 660ti.
Fps wil be like this, Race07 +150, pCars 60, rfactor2 ± 80, R3E 90

Scott Webber: I will do what I can to help out, yes. I can tell you this though, the CPU you have won't bottleneck your gaming running at 4Ghz. Download and install MSI Afterburner and set it up to show an overlay in game and you will be able to see the %used on the CPU. I seriously doubt you will hit higher than 80% CPU usage.

The SSD is not required though is it ? I'm not really a hoarder so.... I can live with 500GB.

Is your FPS with the 650 or 660 ? I'd like to know what kind of difference in FPS there is between the two. Having the 660 instead would add 100+$ or thereabout so yeah.

EDIT: Also, does the FPS count A.I.'s or not ? Full graphics I'd imagine. I just would like to know what to expect online with 30 or so opponents (Which is equivalent to around 15 A.I. in rFactor)

Thanks by the way.

Thing is, I order the full PC.... I'll call soon, it's basically the full PC and I will ask if I can change the few things I want to change on it, with a reasonable supplement, obviously.

Don't do that, rather buy the parts and put it together yourself or ask a friend. Pre-made computers are rarely good and almost always have a weak part somewhere. :)

$900 for the new nVidia 700 series, i am so dissapointed :( i have £600 saved, & im not willing to spend more then that on a graphics card.

ATI 7970 is sold out all the time :(

GTX 680 is my next best bet & it does almost perform as good as the new 7970 if not better in some reviews.

im really confused in what to get :(

I got a 660ti 3 gb for christmas and ive been extremely impressed. I think my phenom 2 x6 is causing a bottleneck tho. Im running project cars on 3 screens at 40 fps and everything else on three screens at around 100. The gtx 680 is a great card too tho. If you have the money already saved, go with that one :)

Just got a HD7950 on Friday, getting 60fps in Far Cry 3 and Skyrim and about 90-100 in Spec Ops The Line. Having trouble getting it to stay in 3D mode though, the core clock keeps dropping off every 30 seconds mid game which causes the FPS to drop to about 15-20 for a few seconds.

Have you tried the beta drivers? There have been some very good improvements to issues with single frame lag which is the issue you seem to be having. I would suggest the latest one. Also the CAP files are important as well due to them addressing specific games and the issues that arise from them.

You are correct in the GTX 660 being almost as good and being a lot cheaper, but consider the system you wish to have. Are you wanting a system that is going to be a great performer with a single card or one that is running SLI or crossfire? If the single card option is what you are looking for, then besides spending near $1000 US on the GTX 690, the HD 7970 is your best bet. If you are looking for multi card SLI or Crossfire, then I would probably go with a pair of GTX 670's.
As far as brand, I have had great luck with Powercolor and with XFX cards, though I have heard great things about Asus and their support as well. I would also highly recommend you get the most vRAM that you can afford to prevent textures not being able to load at certain screen resolutions.
