704Games recently released a first patch for the new NASCAR Heat game, bringing with it a several minor bug fixes.

Written in surprisingly vague language, the new changelog is small but welcomed by the NASCAR Heat 2 community, and shows positive signs that the recently rebranded 704Games are serious about ensuring a positive experience is had by players of the latest officially licenced NASCAR game.

Not particularly big on content, the patch nevertheless addresses some of the more noticeable annoyances with the title that have surfaced since launch earlier this month, and hopefully is the first of several that look to help bring the game up to a standard deserving of the premier racing series in North America.

    Patch 1 Update Notes:
    • Fixed a crash when viewing schedule in Career during Hot Seats.
    • Fixed VSync.
    • Victory Anthem volume is now tied to Music volume.
    • Fixed a bug where Elliott Sadler's Road America Challenge would not reward you if you completed it successfully.
    • Added functionality to switch between Global Leaderboards and Favorite Driver Leaderboards.
    • Added gear/speed overlays when in cockpit mode.
    • Fixed an achievement issue where the track type achievements were not awarded correctly.
    • Fixed doppler effect so that it is correctly calculated preventing unusual pitch shifting during some events.
    • Set Furniture Row Racing to a 5 Star team in career.
    • Added a Stats page to Career.
    • Minor bug fixes.

Lots of modding potential this year. Discovering even more than last year. Cars aren't packed into one file, which means we can update them with accurate skins one at a time rather than having to release a new skin pack.

I've also been working with the base designs they've provided and it's possible to create new base paint schemes for the "Custom Skin" UI, they just have to be painted in 3 specific colors, much like how iRacing does their paint kit on the website.

Also should be able to provide car viewers and templates for custom skins much more accurately than last year. Installing them is still cludgy, but no more so than F1 2016 / 2017 for example.

The game has shown enough improvement for me that I think I will stay interested enough to want to do things like track texture/billboard updates as I progress through career mode, but my main focus right now is on removing the annoying car ahead name labels. I'm oh so close -- when I accomplish that, I'll start moving on to some other items and sharing more knowledge.

Here's some images of some discoveries thus far.

Ooh, definitely count me intrigued. Those started to grate on me in Heat Evo, and I'd much more readily jump into Heat 2 if they were no longer a necessity.

Poof! They're gone! Just need to do some testing to verify it doesn't cause any other issues before releasing.

@aowzone I used to skin for NR2003 and only make dirt skins for iRacing but wanted to give Heat 2 modding a chance. I'll be making skins once you release viewers and templates! If there's already templates I want to start right now for the weekend.

Thanks so much. This is a really stupid immersion killer. Quite why 704 don't provide an option for this is unbelievable. The core racing is absolutely superb this year, but oh what rough edges...

They could provide it -- it took me all of about 3 minutes once I found the relevant C# code to remove it. My guess is they think people like it. I complained about it last year too but never cared enough to do something about it. I guess they got me motivated enough to try this year :)

Still trying to sort out the best way to release this. It is a bit tricky.

You would think that NHE had provided Monster with enough input to fix its many flaws, unfortunately NH2 is a terrible PC port. It has poor visuals (poor AA poor LOD), poor optimization - high fps but frame drops, limited graphics options. Still the same controller tool they supplied as a fix for NHE.

The redeeming factors is an AI that can actually provide a fun race and the new series and road tracks are pretty good too.

I cannot really forgive Monster for failing to improve the performance and visuals of NHE.

They appear not to know how to make the unity engine purr on a PC.
Keep hoping for fixes though, keep hoping that they have learned from NHE.

It's Unity3d. It can be a good engine -- My Summer Car seems very popular -- but I think the developers are just learning it on the fly.

    Nice work!

Finally had the time to play the game. I have to say that I do like it alot. I did not play it before the last patch, so I don't know how it has been before, but right now it is quite fun.

    @aowzone
Looking forward to your "no-names" mod. That was alway a thing that bugged me about the games.

I have to have a look at the files and see if I can port over some of the skins I painted for Nascar Heat :)

First "mod" is up -- was annoying me having missing driver headshots in the menus and results screens.

    http://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/replace-missing-driver-headshots.17578/

The "No Names" mod is something I could use some help from someone familiar with Unity / C# dll's on. I have it working, but would like to wrap it in its own DLL file instead of modifying the particular one you need to modify to remove the name overlays. PM me if you have any experience with C# or Unity DLL development!

Ok, more or less solved my main problem with frame drops by replacing my 60hz iiyama with a 144hz samsumg monitor. Looks like NH2 does not like to run on 60hz monitors (or at least some), it also does not like to run in duplicate mode 144hz together with my TV. So only exclusive mode.

Together with some graphical tweaks using nvidia inspector this makes the game pretty nice to play even in 1080p. LOD I cannot change.

Finally able to race without irritation.
