PC1 Multiplayer Bug: Unhandled Exception Trapped

Well I started with Project Cars and thought the graphics weren't looking too great, lots of jaggy bits, so tried to change some settings from MSAA, anti-aliasing bits and now all I get is a black screen and an "Unhandled exception trapped" dialogue box popping up. EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION at 0x40e32d36. Reading from address 0x00000000. Thread 0x00001bc0 Build SMSARI.20150503.0999.BLDA000.
I deleted the local file reinstalled and restarted PC but still the same.

Running an Intel i5-4690k @3.5, 8 GB Ram, GTX 970 on triple screens @5760 x 1080.

Any ideas how to get this back running? I'm not great with PC's so nice and simple would be appreciated

That didn't went well tonight. We were racing in the club with 30 DTM cars with various issues that we haven't seen during previous days/events
  • Some drivers were 100% invisible during the practice and qualification but showed up for other drivers
  • Overall difficulties in joining the multiplayer session
  • Rooms not showing up in the lobby at all (Restart of Steam required)
  • When moving from Qualification to Race a handful of drivers including myself weren't syncing at all and were left with a black screen. Meanwhile hearing the drivers on teamspeak the session started with several cars parked on the starting grid (that must be us :D) causing a big pile up.
  • My black screen eventually resulted in a dump to desktop with the follow error message.

I'm thinking you loaded up Gran Turismo 6 by mistake. :cautious::roflmao:

Dedicated server @Kyle Pearson. Uploaded the dmp file here

Thanks. When I get home from work, I'll provide the dumps to the multiplayer developers.

Also a bug is that people can use DRS all race long on every straight :)

Since it's not a true F1 (and it's mostly modeled after the 2011 F1 rules), there are no rules imposed on DRS usage. They can use it anywhere they don't crash. :) KERS has no limits on where it can be used other than it has to recharge.

But that's a bug then as DRS should only be able to function on the designated straight of a track. Of course in qualy it should open where you want.

It's not bug per say. Bug would mean they intended to have DRS zones and it's not working. They don't have any implementation which restricts DRS usage. Since those rules are set by the series and they have no series license, it's not really required. If they are able to get a series license of DTM, then they would implement the full rules used in the series.

Yesterday evening i had the same problem in another server.

This is that typical WMD investor talk we have seen so much here in the last years, fact. Always defending the decisions of the developers :) As a race gamer you'd like to have real life settings as well?

If you have a DTM car in game that looks like a DTM car, sounds like DTM car and drives like a DTM car it's not more than logical the rules would fit DTM as well.

If Reiza, Codemasters and Sector3 can have a proper DRS zone in their games there is no reason to assume that SMS can't.

A good lord.. making a mountain out of a mole hill as usual. No one is defending anything. I have no need as I have no power to change anything, nor does anyone else in the WMD community. Get that chip off your shoulder..

My point was other people do think it's fun to use DRS anywhere. You don't, and that's your opinion. Personally, I don't care either way since it's not something I use very much. I'll use whatever is provided. None of this is real. I have a real race car and drive a real race car. I know what is or isn't real.

They never said they couldn't. It was a decision they made. Doesn't mean they won't change their minds later, but there was a decision to not restrict it.

No, not as usual. You can read back all my posts on this game pre-release and you won't find anything harmful on this game.

I have only started playing this incredible game this week and in the last couple of days I have encountered already so many large and small bugs that I seriously wonder what those 80,000 people have been doing the last couple of years other than roaming forums, websites and social media playing positive news marketeers and interest free loan suppliers to SMS.

I have been in so many beta's the last ten years and all of these groups had the same shape and form: small, dedicated to find bugs and kill them and when the devs didn't want to listen we had a solid argument to get it addressed and fixed in the end.

Pcars has blown me away when it comes to immersion and I love it, but after four years of hearing, seeing and reading so much BS I was hoping it would end after release but it almost looks that they are shifting in the highest gear now.

None of this is real.
True, but we at least can do our best to try and make it as close to reality as possible. As one of the first drivers (and teams) in the old RD Le Mans Series you should know. Otherwise you wouldn't have been driving the not so real virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans with Satellite Racing :)

Not trying to stir the pot but Iam a wmd member and I must admit the current implementation of the Drs system is absolutely ridiculous and unrealistic which ruins every car that uses a Drs system. They might as well have just added an Infiniti use turbo boost button Lol
I sure hope they will reconsider this and add an option to limit it to time limit recharge or atleast once a lap

This wasn't the model of Project CARS. For the most part, everything people are finding (on the PC), WMD members have already reported. The crashes are different as with various PC combinations there are always going to be weirdness to be found. BTW, I say "on the PC" as no one in the community got to see nor test any of the console versions (not that I own a current gen console myself). To be blunt, there was really never any "beta" stage for WMD. Traditionally, there is an alpha and then a beta stage. At least for the community side, that never really happened but it may have happened on the DEV side (as even with this development model, the WMD community didn't have full access to "everything").

One thing I will add.. While there may have been 80k or so of WMD contributions, there was only a few hundred (if that) actually participating. Most contributors were thinking it was "Kickstarter" where you pay and wait which you can see all of the recent comments of "I was a backer and now I have to pay?" comments.

While I'm painting this out to look like things were very restricted, I actually understand the model. I have worked in software development myself since 1993. I'm no longer in a role where I write code, but I manage several development groups and my company has a similar "collaboration model" with it's clients. However, they only see and comment on what we want them to.. The other things are discussed/handled in sections which are only visible to the company staff. This is why for me, the SMS model was no different. I was just in a different role for their model than I'm used to....

That's opinion, not fact.

It is fact, not opinion. I don't understand why you say that? Surely your many Alpha testers (actually paying beta testers) would not have voted to have it like this?

I wouldn't be suprised that WMD members that did speak up about it were silenced with the usual wave of the "refund" hammer.

Hopefully SMS will patch it for us PC racers at some point but somehow I don't see this game getting much more attention except for some pay DLC. But time will tell I suppose.

I read in some thread that you also have to close the DRS manually, so it doesn't close automatically while braking? Is that not a bug?

No that's not true Piet. Applying the brakes does indeed deactivate DRS. I experimented with just this last night in the RD DTM race. So it's not a bug as such but a big failing on the design in my opinion.
